hi
I am not worried about the chipset or the CPU just looking for 2 active PCIe slots which can do a full x16 ( 32+ lanes I guess)
This is not exactly for graphics/gaming but for some experimental crypto stuff and perhaps mining..
I also want to evaluate if I can use a AMD card in one slot...
hi
Is there a microATX/uATX board with 2x PCIex16 which can run full x16 at the same time ?
https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/ROG-STRIX-Z370-G-GAMING/
has 2x PCIe16 but they can only run in x8+x8 mode
Are there any others ?
G
Exactly... I did that for fun 4 years ago when BTC was < $100 ... I sold a tiny fraction of my savings, and want to build a miner :-) to mine all the low complexity stuff for the next few years...
hi
With Bitcoin prices touching $19K/$ I am seriously thinking of building a miner...
NO NO>>. I dont want to mine any bitcoin, its past the game...
I wanted to mine other Altcoins and keep them in my pool...
I dont want to big-rig...
To start I think a rig with just one graphics card with...
hi
I am at the point to upgrade, and want to move up from my ancient AMD Phenom board to a Z370 board with a 1060 graphics card to make my own customac/hackintosh...
Do you think I can still use my tj08-e case ?
Any one using a Z170/270/370 with NV Pascal card on that case currently ?

hi
I have a TJ08B-E based system and have a dual monitor setup, and wanted to put this all on a computer cart so I can move it around in my apartment.
Most computer cart I can google seems to be as expensive as the computer itself or more..
does anyone have any pointers to any modular...
hi
Is there any site which has performance/pricing benchmarks of off the shelf notebook systems. There seem to be sites which benchmark the CPU but not the whole OTC laptop configurations...

Cool....
I am doing a bit more actually
the board I am using has 4 extra led headers, 2x LAN 1xpower 1xFanOH
and I am using the antec 902v3 case which has front audio connectors (mic and headphone)
I have ripped them out and put bi-color LED's in the front, and am gonna use green for...

hi
I just setup monitoing on my media server, and I see that the disks in the Norco racks are between 60-67C as reported by smartctl
Is that too high... ?
The system temperature is at about 35C and one of the lone disks in another norco rack is like 30C
I have checked that the...
Well I do know that.... thats why I have a spindle of Taiyo_Yuden 100 DVD's lying in my office here in front of me. I initially bought them for photo archival...
I have hence moved to BDR-LTH as the Blurays have a hard coat unlike DVD discs...
also I can store about 18GB per disc after ECC...

I dont have fans on 2 of the F1-F4 headers, so I get

We will see 1Gbps google fiber like connections coming up in another 4-5 years and
the MPAA/RIAA etc bandwagon of companies will shift to using online delivery for high def content (as they can fully control that), and low def DVD and bluray will still stay as it is with prices dropping down to...
Well, we have not discovered a "backup media" as good as "plain old paper" yet with all this high density data floating around. Well I am setting up a Media server with 2 huge partitions/pools on ZFS to have 2 copies of my 'archival storage' data. However if my house/garage burns down then I...

From some more reading I understand that there are only 2PWM controls on the board
one for FanA(pwm1) and the other for Fan1-4 (pwm2)
Hence FanA is to be used for CPU
and Fan 1-4 are to be used for Casefans...
RIght now I am not using FanA, but only Fan1,3,4. The pwm2 is controlling...
I dont believe this board will be so premature as to not allow the end user to control the fans.
eg. looking at one of the other FAQ's
http://www.supermicro.com/support/faqs/faq.cfm?faq=13433
it says you can connect Fan1 to CPU fan and fan 2-4,A to case fans.
Right now I have a total...
hi
I have been searching this on mouser and digikey for the last hour.
You have that cable which comes with the computer case for the front panel which is wired to either the reset button or the power switch or the HDD led or the power LED
it is typically wired on one end to the front panel...
hi
if you look at
http://www.supermicro.com/products/motherboard/Xeon/C202_C204/X9SCM-iiF.cfm
There is a section on "PC Health Monitoring"
and if you look at the manual it says lookup this section under
But I dont see this section at all in the AMI Bios version 2.0a on 9/17/2012 which...
hi
Lets keep this thread for X9SCM-iiF related questions...
So I now have the X9SCM-iiF working...
I have multiple Case Fans (PWM) and the CPU fan connected to the board.
How do I tell the motherboard which fan is for what... or rather I need to tell the system which is the fan for CPU...

The Scythe "Big Shuriken 2" CPU Cooler
http://www.scythe-usa.com/product/cpu/120/scbsk2000_index.html

SY1212SL12H-P
The fan is however not available seperately...
They do have the same/similar fans with no PWM...

I would really like to see a 128GB blu-ray kind of media in some sort of housing..
128GB with ECC correction => 100GB a disk. @US$ 5/piece
its still at $40/piece for a 100GB BDXL and the optical...
I can see that after looking at the size of the cooler... however with about 13HDD's in the system it would be pretty hot in there already... also the summers here in texas are pretty hot in the garage....
I am looking at the air balance in the case...
I have reduced intake with
2x80mm...
if you read the details, you will see that Delkin DVD's are probably as good as standard Blu-ray discs..
They have what they call a 'hard coat' on blurays which gives them more life compared to DVD's
also DVD's are limited to 9GB/disk, whereas bluray would be 25-100GB a disk.
most videocams...
Is there any 4pin-PWM to 3-pin fan controller available which we can use with the stock fan...?
I like the positive pressure of this case, which means using only the intake fan and use a CPU cooler to direct/stream the air flow out of the back. (with no exause fan), however the fan stays put at...
hi
There is a program called DVDISASTER which can write ECC enabled optical media. I have been backing up my home videos on BDR/BDR-LTH media assuming that BDR's are here to stay for a while... (they have the best archival structure) . I use dvdisaster, so I can save about 18GB of data on each...

just after the thai floods, there was 2TB WDEARS on sale in BestBuy for $80 and I bought a bunch of drives, as soon as I got them I testted for bad sectors, if I fond a bad drive I exchanged it, to the point all the 3 drives have very few bad sectors, but then I ended up with drives...

I have 99% decided on the X9SCM-iiF. The next question is the CPU cooler...
I see that the Noctua NH-D14 is a good cooler, but is that a over kill for this board ?
I am planing to assemble this in a mid tower case with about 13 HDDs eventually.
The Server build looks like this

Getting ready for a NAS build. I am proposing to use this with a uATX supermicro board and
12+1 HDD drives, 1BDRW drive
Is there any other 9x case better than this for $120 or less..
secondly I wanted to replace the glass panel with a metal one or a grill.
Any ideas...

yea if I buy a X9SAE then there is a x8 in x16 mechanical slot, and I can use a x16 card, the bad part is that the X9SAE already has support for a grapics, but if I have to opt for a X9SCM-F (for its IPMI support) then there are only X8 (mechanical) slots so a x16 wont fit.
I currently have 2...
hi
What is a good PCIe-X4 or PCIe-X8 card for Xeon-E3 based server system (which does not have PCIe-X16 slots), and which can help with video encoding. (decoding is not of much use tome on the server system)
I would prefer a NVIDIA, but AMD/ATI is also fine.
G
thanks..
Is there any place where the supermicro suffixes or naming conventions are explained...
Whats the difference between X9SCM, X9SCM-F, X9SCM-iiF
or X9XCA X9SCA-F
or X9SAE X9SAE-F
I need at least one PCI slot, and one or more PCIex8 slots, so not much available on supermicro
