From the reviews, the extra OC ability combined with the excellent cooling design, you can get up to the GTX 580 speeds for a lot less money. Too bad they don't make a 2GB version. 1.25GB doesn't enough for BF3 @ 2560x1440
@ MacLeod
I agree with you on the pricing of GTX 580 and 7970 pricing.
It should scale with performance rather than saying the bragging rights "I HAVE THE TOP CARD" at $500.
3-4 years? not likely. more like 1-2years. I recently jump from a GTX 260 -> 6970. Took a while for me to pull the trigger on upgrading because there weren't any "WOW" games until BF3 came out. 6970 will be for another 1-2 years. I don't like the 7970 spec. Didn't see anything that would...
The eXtreme Power Supply calculator is pretty neat. The calculated minimum PSU is 427w, but recommends a 476w. I'm not sure how accurate the calculation is, but let's hope for the best with the Rosewill 650W.
Actually, it's a 650W PSU. I somehow thought it was a 620W. Below are the specs:
Rosewill HIVE Series HIVE-650 650W Continuous @40°C, 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified, Modular Design, Single +12V Rail, ATX12V v2.31/EPS12V v2.92, SLI Ready, CrossFire Ready, Active-PFC Power Supply
The recommended PSU is 650, but I have a 620. Anyone out there have a lower PSU than the recommended? Like the card, but don't have extra dough to upgrade the PSU.
I agree. Was a MW for a long time, but when I saw how MW3 looked when compared to BF3 I switched. MW graphics have not been updated with each release. I can believe they release such garbage and everyone (including me) bought it.
My temps are running ~51C on idle and ~75C at full load on BF3 on 6950 bios w/ shader unlocked.
It maybe the core not liking the overclocks because it the core can't do anything above 865 w/o it locking up on the 6950 bios.
There's really no point of flashing to 6970 bios (880/1375) if it...
The card has a dual bios switch so I attempted to unlock the potential of this beast. Step 1. Unlock the shaders. Result: Done Step 2. Flash 6950 to 6970 bios. Result: Done (sort of). The flash went okay and GPU-Z identifies it as a 6970 w/ correct core and ram spees, but the card isn't...
I am using ATI CCC and my Asus DirectCU II 6950 is ~ 50c at idle and 75c at full. Default fan speed used. 12% at idle and 25% at full. Not very noticeable at all. Seems my temps are a lot higher than yours...uggg.
If you wait, you'll never buy anything. Just pull the trigger and buy the damn 580s. There will always be a market for 580s even after the R7xxx/N6xx comes out. Personally, 2x 570s would be my choice.
I don't think my one 6970 can handle good FPS games w/ 3 x 24" Eyefinity setup. *Sigh* Maybe someone has better experience w/ games on 1xGPU Eyefinity setup?
Your temps seems rather high on a 212+. I have a similar experience with the 2500K. First installation, 2500K @ 4.3Ghz, idle was 39c and prime95 was around 92c in 30mins. Took the h/s off and made sure every inch of the cpu was covered with Artic Silver 5. On the second run, idle @ 33c and...
Agreed on 2.
Agreed on 3. The Hyper 212+ is probably the best price/performance for air coolers.
Agreed on 4. 2500K avg overclock is 4.3Ghz w/o any voltage increase. 4.5 if you get a lucky CPU.
I have the Voodoo card with 2 gpu's on it. It's somewhere in the garage...it's was amazing to see that big ass video card.
My brother has the higher end one...think he bought it at a garage sale. hahaha
I finally got my gig together and didn't want to run cables for surround sound. A sub and soundbar seems like a match. The onboard can do 7.1 (I think or at least 5.1), how would you connect it to the soundbar?
Any suggestion for a decent one? ~$200?
For the triple setup, do you simply take the power requirment and times it by 3? I.E. 200w x 3 = 600 w (minimum). Is there any other thing to consider?
I recently had the same problem as you did. My rig was getting lower scores that it should be in 3dMark 01/03. I couldn't figure out the problem. I went throught all the procedures mentioned above and still nothing. I went back to Fry's and bought a 2nd motherboard, psu, ram, and video card...
