The 710T ghosts very little, less than the 172X in solitaire. Perhaps the guy who saw a lot of ghosting is actually seeing a low frame rate and calling it ghosting.

I doubt the 710T price will drop much, it's already pretty low for a Samsung. Unless style is the most important factor, I think this is the best 17" LCD available.

I own a 710T and I've tested a 172X. Based on a solitaire test, the 710T has less ghosting than the 172X. I highly recommend the 710T.

I was playing some Q3 tonight on my 173p. It does ghost, but mainly when I rotate quickly. It reminds of a low frame rate. I think this monitor is fine for casual gaming. YMMV.
