The 710T ghosts very little, less than the 172X in solitaire. Perhaps the guy who saw a lot of ghosting is actually seeing a low frame rate and calling it ghosting.
I doubt the 710T price will drop much, it's already pretty low for a Samsung.
Unless style is the most important factor, I think this is the best 17" LCD available.
I just got my 710T from Dell for about $480+tax. It arrived in just a few days.
I found no dead pixels and it came with a DVI cable.
The stand is very adjustable: the base rotates, the display tilts and moves up and down, and it will pivot for portrait mode. I wrestled with the stand a bit...
DLP: rainbows, poor contrast, big cabinet.
LCD: poor contrast, poor blacks, ghosting, too expensive.
LCOS: unproven, big cabinet.
Plasma: beautiful
You just have to do the research so you can find the good brands/models, find a good price, and set it up properly. That's the price of...
Wrong. I watch 720p and 1080i all the time on my ED 42" Panasonic. Sure it is scaled, but at 42" and a typical viewing distance of 6-8 feet, you won't see the pixels. In fact, many people, my self included, have compared the ED and HD 42" Panasonics side-by-side with a 1080i signal. Amazingly...
LCD often has a higher resolution making it better for still images and reading text.
LCD has far worse contrast than plasma because an LCD must block the backlight while in a plasma display each gas bubble is like a little light bulb.
Plasma also has far superior response time. I play...
See the LCD reviews at Tom's. He gives some info on the resolution scaling problem:

For games and movies, it shouldn't be too bad. My biggest concern would be how well photos scale.
msny, when I say "an LCD", I mean a particular LCD, not LCDs in general. If someone happens to be in store evaluating LCDs, the solitaire test is just a tool to help compare the different models that may be available.
No doubt, there are probably better LCDs out there than what I saw at...
Here's a nice little test you can do to see how much ghosting an LCD has.
1. Boot up good old solitaire.
2. Make sure you have outline dragging turned off.
3. Press F2 until you see a face card.
4. Grab the face card and _smoothly_ slide it from side-to-side down in the green area.
You...
I was playing some Q3 tonight on my 173p. It does ghost, but mainly when I rotate quickly. It reminds of a low frame rate. I think this monitor is fine for casual gaming. YMMV.
I decided to return the 173p for two reasons:
1. I don't trust Samsung to support software controls into the future (5+ years). Also it requires me to run a bunch of junk in the background. There's also a startup process that takes awhile to load the settings.
2. For the price, I think it...
I picked up a Samsung 173p from Fry's yesterday. I paid the full retail price of $700. There is a $50 rebate, so that brings it fairly close to the price at newegg. I refuse to buy an LCD with dead pixels, so I was willing to pay more for Fry's excellent return policy (30 days). I actually got...
