So would the P4 Dual Core Extreme Edition be about as good as it gets for video encoding right now?(xvid, h264, etc.)
topaimz, you said you have a 3.4ee in your old rig. Just curious.. what did you replace it with?
Are these really the old "Deathstars"? I didn't know those were still around. Was going to have a friend pick one of these up, but if that's the case I won't.
Do you have a Win2K or WinXp install CD? If so, you can boot from the setup CD... and use it to remove the NTFS partitions... then restart without actually installiing 2K or XP.
PokerAlice, I tried pulling up pages and images that resembled what you described, and I don't notice anything. Could lighting in the room cause it? (keep in mind I don't know what it looks like) On another note (off topic)... I see you mentioned you have a 19" dell lcd. Any particular reason...
Boxman, I haven't tried any of that with mine. I'm sure someone else has tho. I did look at that feature when I bought it, because I thought I might use the monitor eventually for something like that.
Sorry for just now posting. I need to turn on email notification. Haven't been on [H] as much as I'd like to lately.
maw, as far as the script language.... what do you recommend? I'm pretty sure the webserver supports PHP and ASP.
I'm wanting something that will automatically generate a page(or generate into a designated area of a page) with a list (text list) of all the images that are in a certain directory on an ftp site. It will basically be a "fancy" version of when you type in a url and get a directory listing...
Only 6 movies left (as of this post). If anyone is interested, you can make an offer for the remaining movies.(all together)
BTW, thanks to everyone who purchased DVD's.
tdg bought 17 DVD's, and if anyone wants to buy more than one DVD, just let me know and I will possibly give you a better price.(depends on how many, etc..)
BTW, thanks tdg.:). I PM'd your UPS tracking number to you.
17 of the movies have sold. I edited the list and removed the sold movies.
These DVD's will only be available for approx. 2 more days, and then I will be putting them on ebay.
Nice rig. I'd probably go with the 3500. You can get the drivers for your video card at this url--> http://www.ati.com/support/driver.html
BTW, you'd probably get more replies if this was posted in the General Hardware forum.(Or possibly the Processor forum)
FennecTheFox, as for "screen door" effect... if you notice it.. you always will. Nothing you can do about it. The USB cord that came with it is for using the USB ports on the monitor. As for your other questions(laptop, which processor, etc.), you should create another post in the appropriate...
I read the post at that thread and I believe he's trying to figure out the best way to "tweak" his monitor's colors, brightness, etc.. Any VP201 owners out there figured out the best way? If so, what software, utils, etc.. are you using? This would probably be helpful info. for everybody.
Thanks for the info. arvig. I'll probably end up doing what you said, and flipping a coin.:D I As you can see, I didn't order the parts today, but I'm hoping I get my mind made up and get the parts ordered tomorrow. The only bummer about this video card I found is that it's a PCI card...
You're right... I won't be playing any DVD's back thru it. But now that I think about it, the Deluxe board would be better if I did decide to do more with the machine later. Plus I found a Geforce4 MX in my closet still new in the box. The main thing is stability. This pc will be on 24/7...
I'm building an extra machine, and I'm going to use an XP 2500 processor. One has on-board video, and the other doesn't. I would like to go with the board that has on-board video, but if the other board is a lot better, I will go with it. The machine will basically be used for burning DVD's...
vlad_Swe, I don't know what could cause what you described. By the way you described how it displays gradients, it could possibly be the lcd itself. You might give Viewsonic a call and see what they say about it.
[B]Merry Christmas Everyone[/k...
jienn, if I were you, I'd goto BestBuy or somewhere you can play with a few LCD's. Or if you have a friend with a 16ms LCD(VP201, 2001FP, etc..), then I'd take it for a test drive.
I play Call of Duty and COD United Offensive the most, and with those games I get zero ghosting or blurring...
I got my younger sister a Dell 600M, and it's been great for her. I highly recommend the on-site warranty, because my sister is off at school in San Diego and Dell has already shown up there for a repair. She broke a key off (not sure how) and they took care of it. Pretty nice, and that 800...
The VP201 of course :D. Seriously tho, they are both great monitors.
If you've read some of my posts, you'll see that I don't notice the screen door effect that much, but the connection shouldn't make a difference as far as that goes.
I've owned a few Viewsonic's myself, and I've found...
I'm thinking of giving O&O a try. Had a bad experience last week with defrag. I stopped it, to resume later, and it ended up locking up.(The one time I ever tried that) Long story short... After running chkdsk a bunch of different ways and after hours of screwing with it I ended up having to...
Where is a good place to buy one of these "micro fiber cloths"? I've been looking for something to clean my LCD's with. I was always told to use water/alcohol mixed 50/50. Dell recommends it too. At least that's what they told me to use on my laptop's screen.
I am very familiar with Gainward as a company, and have owned a couple of their cards. But I had not and have not read any reviews or anything about the card itself.
Cool. Where did you order it from?
Looks good!! You been playing many games on it? Do you drive a Dodge?;)
I don't know much about the Gainward, but as long as it's a 6800GT and Dual DVI... I don't see how you can go wrong. Either way, let us know how the new card works out.
I use FTP, but I have used http://www.imageshack.us/ . You don't have to register if you don't want to. I highly recommend it. After you submit a PIC, it will even give you <html> for a thumbnail. Just copy and paste the code you want.:)
