I don't know if this happens for anyone else but remote desktop sessions (using the RDP desktop app) to systems/vms with this KB installed black screen if I minimize the session and come back to it some period of time. Can't interact with the session after that other than close and re-open...
Fan noise wise, she'll put out some noise when booting up but after booting, the chassis fans whisper leaving the power supply fan to be heard. More like a woosh of air though and even still seems quieter than the D-Link 48 port switch I tried. I hear the exhaust and CPU fan of my old ReadyNAS...
I did go with the HP 2920-48 non POE version. It's currently installed and running. A bit louder fan noise wise (power supply fan) than the D-Link DGS-1210-48 but I'm used to fan noise. :) Simplistic management can be done via the web ui but the real meat is all command line. I haven't gone...
Thanks for all the suggestions. May end up going layer 3 route even though it's wicked overkill. I haven't played with layer 3 switches since my days at Alcatel/Xylan. The HP 2920 is still high on the list.
I did give a D-Link DGS1210-48P a shot. Random reviews looked good but I did have...
I may be over-complicating things as usual. Entertaining pricier layer 3 options like the HP 2920-48G. Researching performance/stability gains not that I've ever had issues with the Netgear layer 2 options, multiple link agg enabled ports, mixed MTU, etc. before.
Part of me wants to try...
Thanks, diizzy. You're recommendation of the Zyxel 24 port switch in another thread is what had me looking at their 48 port version.
Decisions! Part of me started thinking full but not far out expensive L3 switch just to play around with. Bad for the pocket book. Good for the brain. :)
Forgot to include those additional details.
Performance should be decent especially to the link agg enabled ports where data is moved to/from regularly.
PoE not needed.
Web UI although I could live CLI.
Not too concerned about power consumption or noise.
And price can be < $700. This...
I know I've seen a fair amount of 24 port gigabit switch recommendations. How about for 48 ports for a home network that's 99% gigabit. Need at least 6 link aggs (2 ports per - static or LACP capable). Something nice and stable. Under $600 or so.
Fun part of looking on-line is most places...
Comparing the dot pitch of a 30" at 2560x1600 vs the 32" 2560x1440 offerings doesn't seem like much of a difference. Considering I end up using Windows scaling to 125% on a 30" monitor, I'm curious if one of these 32"ers might help me live w/ 100% scaling and be happy with the text sizes. Do...
Built a small VM box using this motherboard this past weekend and an Adaptec 6805. Same type of thing. The card wasn't seen on POST. A quick search on Adaptec's site mentioned update the BIOS but if the issue remained, try setting Advanced -> Chipset Configuration -> Integrated IO Configuration...

Hoping the RunAs Radio link works. Over-zealous policies at work block that site. It's IT related. Usually MS centric.

I'd love to use this card in a system I'd like to build for a friend (well, 2 systems since his wife games with him) that's been through tough times this year.
A Corsair SSD would look pretty sexxah next to my Corsair Vengeance RAM.
Thanks, Corsair, for the many years of great service, excellent products and support for so many years.
Have to admire the cooling on these cards. Some don't like having the heat inside the system but then I've got a system that pipes hot air outside but then ends up getting re-circulated back in via a side fan. At least with this, I can have the air flow going up and out of the case through the...
Have been using GTX460s,GTX480s and now GTX580s in systems ranging from "old" Q6600/9650 systems to two MSI XPower BB X58 systems and the only issue that's popped up for me was driver restarts with FireFox and Flash. The other system I game on and it's been rock solid (and now has an additional...
Have always enjoyed Antec gear. IMO, the best case I ever had was the "old" Antec branded Chieftec cases. Wouldn't fit today's video cards but they were rugged, nice air flow and while tall, easily fit where I needed to fit 'em. It's great to see them stamp their approval/name on some...
Thanks, Appa. I'll do just that.
I found my main system that still had 1.4 frozen in time at 6:30am this afternoon. That's now both systems. Went back to 1.3 on that one too.
I used the DOS BIOS program method (the one included in the download).
Hoped over to the MSI site today and saw an updated BIOS for the Big Bang XPower with the following info:
- Update CPU micro code.
- Improved memory compatibility.
- Support 2.2TB HDD.
- Support OCZ PCIE SSD card.
Figuring it to be all good, I updated my two XPower boxes. One has Corsair...
One thing to try is the Flash 10.2 release candidate.
http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/flashplayer10/
That seems to have fixed the issue for me.
Also now seeing my issue was different. Stupid brain wants sleep. But I did play some Flash and overlapped some transparent windows. No...
Haven't installed Flash on the rig I have a GTX580 in but I installed whatever version of Flash came up by default (v10), went to a site I knew used Flash and it wasn't so much corruption in windowed as it was the video flashing. Going full screen and all is well. Using the latest WHQL drivers...
Corsair's really going for it all with the products they're making for the enthusiast market. VERY glad to see it! These sticks would look killer in any rig.
Currently using Logitech G35s but with default drivers. The additional buttons don't do much for me and the voice altering stuff is gimicky and I don't always know when they might be enabled if fumbling when putting the headset on or off.
I would love to give these a shot. :)
Wouldn't mind basing a new Windows Home Server or even something I can play with Untangle with. A nice small but highly potent motherboard. And if possible, more D for the Horde.
DWP tiers power rates and the rate table depends on the season but it's like $0.0702 for T1, $0.08520 for T2 and $0.12 for T3 per kWh. Of course the bulk of the bill is tier 3 use. :) But yah, $814 just for power alone. ~60 day billing cycle. Just hope no other surprises come up (I'm looking...
Living in So. CA, the summers can be brutal and if past Department of Water & Power bills where any examples, these three words struck fear in my bank account given I've had two systems running at least the GPU clients 24/7. My normal summer W&P bills would have any reasonable person sputtering...
Gave this motherboard a shot with a 980X, Kingston 12GB kit (3 4GB sticks) listed in the HQL, Corsair AX1200 PSU. Took a chance and mounted everything in the case vs bench test. The system would not POST if memory was installed as per the manual. One stick, 2 sticks, 3 sticks, didn't matter...
Thanks for the responses. Definitely not rocket science and looks like the same treatment for normal air cooling and filtering apply. Was just making sure there wasn't anything in particular with radiators. Time to break the n00bness and give the H70 a shot. Was going to go Venomous X.
(Good...
I know Corsair recommends having air drawn in through and into the case. As much as I try to keep things dust free, it happens so I end up cleaning systems when I open them or at least every quarter. Does anybody have any tips on keeping the radiator relatively clean? Perhaps an air filter on...
