Hey guys, I wanted to put up a poll of PC game of the year up on my personal site (not affiliated with my job at AMD). If you have a moment pop in and vote. As an incentive I will give one random lucky winner an XFX Radeon HD6870 Black Edition, and two other random winners a key for Deus Ex...
Many thanks for putting this together!
1) Hotfix released today
2) We dont see this in our lab, so I will need full info such as system config, maps, in game settings, CCC settings, and FPS observed in 10.5 vs 10.8
3) Known issue - we are working to fix it
4) I need to see specific...
I'm here man, just wondering how this thread became a debate about whether an uninstall is needed for AMD and NV, and trying to find weed out the noise to find any real problems I can get looked at.
Good news though, we are now very aware of the issue that 4870X2 owners are complaining...
You misinterpret me yet again.
What I was attempting to say within the confines of 140 characters, is that we did indeed add new functionality. Period. The map that now runs faster was running slow with 10.8, 10.7, 10.6, 10.5 and yes even 10.4.... in other words it was always running that...
AMD and I do care and will fix what we can, regardless of whether it is last generation or not.
Here is your reassurance.
As soon as we can see the issue, then we will investigate it and if possible fix it.
For sure you will get better performance. It varies on the product but typically we pump out 20%-30% improvements in performance in a year after release of the product
Exclusive Catalyst news on twitter - www.twitter.com/catalystmaker
We are on track for next week guys (early next week)
if you want the updates direct and use twitter, feel free to follow me. Random nonsense ;-)

Hey apoppin... if you are posting news or running a website feel free to PM me for my direct email address. As Kyle will tell you, I am very accesible and always willing to help squash bugs. I dont think there are any journalists that post driver stories that dont have a connect line to me...
Kyle is correct.
The "other" guys brought it to our attention via websites over the weekend so we had an engineer come in to debug. He found a bug in his code, got a fix together for us, and now we are getting it packed and prepared for a hotfix update. 12 business hour turnaround!
Plan on...
I have such a twin? I have never heard of him or seen him in any forum ;)
For whatever it means I give you my word that we have never ever released a number that is not verified in our benchmark labs at least twice. I would never imagine releasing false numbers. I appreciate your skepticism...
Actually you will find that we have improved performance for 64 and 128MB cards for many different games. The memory management stuff is not just specific to benchmarks. The reason why in our release notes we highlight benchmarks is because we can actually measure scientifically the improvments...
Well its obvious you dont believe it, and that is fine. However you must remember you do not represent the viewpoints of everyone else that reads it.
"Good luck getting anyone to believe it that wasnt an ATI nut?"
Oh I have no doubt that people less cynical of the world than yourself will...
Hey I would love to discuss this (as long as everyone keeps calm, and keeps the personal attacks out of it).
Ok here is the scenario that we faced
1) Internally we run these tests every month.
2) Consistently we see that our stability score is higher
3) We are very proud of that fact...
Today we posted an update to both Windows and Linux drivers. Make sure you let me know what you think. Also check out this link. It's in German but graphs are universal.

A little shameless plug. Check out the new interview that was put up today. It may have answers to some questions

If the gang at Hard is interested I can do my next interview on this site? ;-)
All overclocking will unfrotunately void your warrantee. The only sanctioned method is using ATI's overdrive which we know is safe.
But hey, if you dont go crazy and overclock too much, you can probably get away with using something like ATI Tool, or RADEON Tweaker.
No, I think its best I leave this thread. My job is to make CATALYST drivers as good as possible and to bring useful features like smartgart, vpu recover, overdrive, etc...
I wasn't implying I would leave these forums altogther, but I will stick to the CAT related forums, where I know for...
We are working on it. Its one of my missions to improve our Linux drivers big time.
Not that that topic has much to do with this thread.
Let me know if you need help in your upgrade I can see if there is any help I can offer.
PM me if you want help
Does this happen only on Half Life 2 or in other games as well (such as doom3). The answer to that will answer your question.
If it happens in other games sounds like a board ready to die. If it happens only on HL2 it may be a system configuration problem. Best thing in that case would be to...
Here is what you should do. Go look up your motherboard specs from the manufacturer website. From there you should be able to tell what the highest ranked CPU is for that mobo. You can see if it is worth it from there. Based on what you are saying I would have to say an X800 is probably a bit...
I think his link pointed to an Australian site, so I would guess its in Aussie dollars. Not sure what the exchange rate is these days though, so I cant help advice if its a good deal or not.
Well if it is a bug in CATALYST I will definately have it looked at and get it fixed. I love this game too much to not let it present itself in its full glory
:)
Digi buddy, I just like interacting with the community. It's one of the main reasons we have been able to work miracles with CATALYST since we introduced it. For me, the main way of finding out what people want from our drivers is by talking to you all.
I merely consolidate what people want...
Interesting thread, I must say....
I guess there is no way to speak logically to some people that are ruled by blind fanaticism.
I really didnt want to get into it here, but I am suprised that people still dont realize what being limited by the CPU means. Bringing up graphs of CPU bound...
Correct.
But what are you talking about? The X800 Pro is inferior to the 6800 GT?
Let me guess you own one right?

How is my post pure PR? You dont mean to tell me that you dont clearly realize from all the reviews across the web that HL2 is quite a CPU bound game. In scenes where that is true, ATI and NV are tied. However in scenes that this is not the case, ATI is a significant winner in FPS?
I dont...
