I was planning to pick up a P182 case for my DIY but it's a bit hard to find where I am. Is there any Thermaltake or Cool Master cases which someone could recommend which is roughly the same price? I'm looking for the following:
1) fairly quiet
2) comfortable amount of space to do work in...
Hi folks,
Another question, originally I wanted the P5K-E/wifi motherboard but now I've noticed there's a new board called the Asus P5Q-E. Since I have a PCI-E 2.0 XFX card, do you think it's worth the money to purchase the Asus P5Q-E? It's about $20-$30 CDN more but I'm not sure if I get a...
Hi everyone,
I'm building a computer and I'm still undecided on the motherboard. I own a Q6600 CPU and a XFX Geforce 8800GT PCI-E 2.0 Video card.
Is it worth it to buy the Asus P5Q-E motherboard? The price difference is about $20-$30 dollars than the Asus P5K-E/wifi.
I was...
Hi folks,
I currently have the following:
XFX 8800GT
Asus PK5-e/wifi motherboard + Q6600 + Thermalright Ultra 120 HSF
WD 640GB HD
Samsung 203B
Corsair 520HX powersupply
I'm looking for a case that has good airflow, and is fairly quiet but not extremely expensive.
I owned an...
Hi folks,
I just read the following on another board:
"just bought a pair of Mushkin HP-8500 for a PK5-E wifi board. I've read that DDR2 default volts are 1.8 but this RAM needed 1.85v to "boot" according to Mushkin HP2-8500 2GB Memory Kit Review. Will I need another set of DDR2 to post...
Hi folks,
I'm putting a PC together and I'm trying to decide on a good 22" Widescreen LCD.
I'm hoping the LCD has the following:
1) a low response time since I play lots of FPS games and don't want any ghosting
2) Non-glossy since I can't stand the reflections
3) Preferably a non-TN...
Hi folks,
I ordered the following parts;
1) ASUS PK5-E with wifi
2) XFX 8800GT
3) Q6600 CPU
I'm interested in getting 2GB of ram and I will probably be running Vista.
Questions:
1 ) Is that enough memory? The most intensive thing I'll probably ever do is play some FPS games...
Hi,
I have a Vantec-3 SATA enclosure with a Western Digital 500GB drive in it. It's connected to my computer using the eSata connector to my Asus A8V Deluxe motherboard. I did have to set the HD as a SATA 1 drive. Everything seems to works fine. I just have 2 questions:
1) When my...
This will be the first machine I build myself. Is it easier to install the cooler before I install the motherboard or is it easy enough to install a cooler later on if I decide I need it? Also do I need to apply some thermal paste at some point? Will it come with the cooler?
Besides hard...
I'm very curious about this monitor too...spec wise it seems ok...anybody? I can't find any reviews anywhere. I own an older Viewsonic 191B and have been pretty happy with it. I would get the Samsung 226BW but I don't like the whole lottery thing going on with it.
Thanks!
Is the difference just the LEDs though? If you don't care about the LEDs and you can't see in your PC case, is it better not to get the tracers and save cash?
Any thoughts on this memory?
OCZ (OCZ2P800R22GK) DDR2 PC2-6400 800MHz Platinum XTC Revision 2 2GB (2x1024MB) Dual Channel Kit
Any good for my system? I mention it because it's currently has a mail in rebate which makes it cheaper than the AData RAM.
Thanks!
Hi Danny,
Thanks for the feedback.
I currently live in Toronto, Canada and I'm having trouble finding some of the items you mentioned. i.e. the G.SKILL memory, the thermalright Extreme HSF, and the Chimei monitor. When you mention the Scythe S-Flex fan, does that somehow mount on the Heat...
I'm looking at building a new PC.
So far I have:
ASUS PK5-E WiFi-AP Socket 776 Intel P35 ICH9R Chipset
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
Western Digital (WD5000AAKS) 500GB SATAII 7200RPM 16MB Buffer HD
SAMSUNG DVDRW 20X SATA BLACK (SH-S203B/BEBN)
Corsair HX Series CMPSU-520HX 520W ATX Triple...
I bought it from a small computer store called Monitor Depot also known as Skyway. They have the monitor for $568 + tax. (www.monitordepot.com). Small store.
I recently bought a Viewsonic 191B and I have a BFG 6800GT video card. I had the LCD hooked up view DVI but just yesterday I can't seem to get any signal. I tried the Analog connection and it works.
I don't have an extra LCD with Digital input or another video card with Digital out. Is...
Well the black looks very black to me....I think it's just as good as my CRT...the LCD is definately a step up in clarity from my CRT....but it's kind of unfair since my CRT was nothing spectacular (Optiquest V95).

Well I'm in Canada so it was $568 CDN + tax. Best price I could find here.
I can't really compare this to any other LCD since I never owned one but I think the colors are vibrant...I'm no expert though.
All I can say is that I'm very happy with this monitor so far.

Just picked up the Viewsonic 191B 8ms LCD today. This is my first LCD.
This monitor is bright. I did some calibrating and I am quite happy with it right now. I used DeadPixelBuddy and could not find any dead pixels. (Thank god).
One of my main concerns when buying this monitor was how...
15% is low by Dell Standards? I haven't heard of too many people getting this monitor for more than 15% off.
Anyone else able to get more than 15% recently? I was just offered 10% just now...he moved to about 13%...

Actually I did look it up on the DELL site:
"If you are an end-user customer who bought new products directly from Dell Computer Corporation ("Dell") in Canada, you may return them to Dell up to 30 days after you receive them for a refund or credit of the product purchase price. If you are an...
If I buy the monitor and for some reason I'm not happy with it, will dell be willing to take the monitor back with a full refund or do I have to pay some restocking free?

Has anyone else seen this issue? I'm thinking of getting this LCD and the game I play the most is CS Source. WickedSmurf, is it very distracting?
Thanks,
-Croyd
Ugh! The screen door effect is on the Viewsonic 912B as well? I was planning to pick one soon...oh well...I looked at the Viewsonic 201B but the screen door effect really bothered me.
-Croyd
I heard that the Viewsonic 912B LCD does not have a reflective screen anymore. Is this true? Or does Viewsonic produce 2 versions of this monitor? Is there any way to identify the anti-reflective screen from the box?
I wanted to get this monitor but I really wanted to avoid a reflective...
For those of you with the VP201B that see the screen door effect (whether it's slight or really obvious), does this issue occur only in analog mode? Or is it apparent in DVI mode as well?
Thanks

Can someone comment on how games look on the Viewsonic 201B when the resolution is dropped to 1280x1024 or 1024 x 768? Do FPS games still look good?
Thanks,
-Croyd
The VX912 looks interesting but I don't think it's available in Canada. I checked www.viewsonic.com and they don't have it listed. The Europe site does though.

I'm looking for an LCD. The LCD is not strictly for gaming but I do play FPS so no ghosting is important.
Anyone have the Viewsonic 912B? If so, any opinions on it? I heard the main complain is the reflection.
Is there any other 19"-20" 12ms-16ms LCDs I should be checking out? I took a...
