I stopped in my local Best Buy today to take advantage of the last day of the 10% off coupon, and I was shocked to find this one unit sitting on the shelf by itself:

I quickly picked it up (and used a 10% off coupon on it to boot =D)

Will post some comments when I get a chance to play with it, anyone else bought this yet? I'm signed up on Logitech's email list for availability, and according to them, it isn't even out yet...

(BTW for anyone who wants a link to that 10% off Best Buy coupon Here you go

i saw this keyboard at the launch event for city of villains...wasn't impressed at all. it felt cheap and the LCD screen was "useless" as deemed by the people working at the show.

*edit* The more I look at it the more I like it, the G keys would be quite nice... Grf, reading this forum is expensive :p

So I got everything up and running, and I've gotta say, I'm definitely impressed. While I too was curious what they could really do with this LCD, it's actually very sharp and large, very easy to read. I'm attaching some pictures to show just a couple of the things it can do just from the default driver CD; presumably once developers get their hands on the SDK we will see much cooler things.

All of this action on the screen updates very very quickly, and I can already see how it would be incredibly useful. Some stubborn games must be run full screen, and I would really love the ability to have the screen alert me when I get an email or an IM, and maybe show the subject line.

You can load the different functions for the LCD like plugins, and enable/disable them at will. Also you can either manually switch between each function by pressing a button, or the keyboard will cycle through them every set number of seconds (adjustable).

Also the backlighting of this keyboard is much better implemented than the Saitek Eclipse; the Eclipse tends to illuminate the space between the keys better than the actual key markings, the G15 doesn't have as much of a bright glow coming from all around it, but the keys themselves are very nicely illuminated.

My only qualm is that since having used the Microsoft Comfort Curve 2000, I realized how much I absolutely love the laptop-style keys. They just feel much better to type with to me. That's the only thing I don't like about the G15, but I imagine many of you will disagree.

This one was being a stubborn whore and staying at 5.5MB, so click here if you want to view it

Wow,
seems a bit bulky but I wouldn't mind one. Is that itunes displaying in the music shot?

Yes. The media plugin has support for every major media player, you simply tell it which one(s) to load. I actually didn't have to do a single thing, as it just immediately recognized what I had and was doing and put it on the screen.

Also I didn't mention before, when you install the driver, it automatically scans for what games you have installed on your HD very quickly, and assigns each its own profile. You also (FINALLY) don't need to reboot after installing the driver, usually the scourge of Logitech drivers.

how much diod this cost ya?

It's $79.99 - I used the 10% off coupon that I linked in the first post to get $8 off.

Edit: Sorry if it seems like a big Best Buy ad, I didn't intend it as such, my focus is on the keyboard, but in case anyone else happens to find one at a local BB I figured I might as well post the coupon, there might be some online stores selling it for cheaper, but noplace currently has it in stock, which doesn't make $71.99 terrible.

Yeah I got one today at BB as well... I love it.. very cool, I can't wait for more LCD applets. one really cool feature is the game switch that turns off the windows keys. right now I am having fun with the Gkeys and macros...

wow i like. those key do light better then my saitek eclipse. more defined.or could be just the camera angle.

Thanks for the heads up zorn !
I picked one up also, don't have a camera or i'd take pics.
Thats exactly how the keys light up. sweet.

Just got mine, lol. And I thought I would be the first to post, but damn I'm a day late :D .

Anyway, so far this thing is awesome, everything that I have been dreaming it would be. And yes once again BB beats EVERYONE to the punch, seems like they are gearing up to be a big contender in the gamer peripheral market.... Lets see the score:

1st to launch with X-Fi ........ BB =1 The Egg =0
1st to launch with Razer Copperhead ........ BB =2 The Egg =0
1st to launch with Logitech G15 ........ BB =3 The Egg =0

WINNER = BB!!

Anyway here are my pics of this beauty, sorry for the large size, I will resize later. As you can see my gaming setup is now complete.... G15 & Copperhead :D

So I understand the G1-G18 keys on the left are totally customizable? Can you possible turn them into one-key shortcut for different apps? (PhotoShop, 3DS Max, games etc.?) Will the software recognize the shortcuts on the fly? How big is it?

It looks good

Just snagged me one from the Sioux Falls, SD Best Buy for $71.99. Can't wait to get off work and go mess with it.

They had 3 on the shelf when I got there, now they have 2.

Yes you can pretty much make a G key do anything you want. Also, there are 3 M buttons right above the G keys, M1 M2 M3 where you can switch to different profiles of G keys, so really you can have 18x3 set up at the same time.

One of the main reasons for me to pick up this keyboard would be to have a messenger on the LCD. Have any of you guys gotten a msg program to work on the screen?

No, out of the box it doesn't work. But it does come with the SDK to program the LCD to do whatever you want, so the more people get this (esp programmers), the more options we will have for the LCD. :D

That would be the most useful thing with the LCD IMO, however the problem I see with it is how will the keyboard let you type in messages if you are in a game? If it cant without switching in windows to the messenger (which I suspect is the case) then it loses a lot of its appeal to me.

We need a Xfire plugin for it.

sweet is says its in stock at my local BB. Time to get dressed at get it.........

i like my saitek eclipse. I prefer it to show a nice glow around each key.

That kb does look hot tho.
Maybe next year. i just got my saitek :)

What's the depth/height on the thing, like from the LCD to the bottom of the keyboard? I really want to pick one up since I've been waiting for an excuse to replace my malfunctioning keyboard, but i'm not sure if the thing would fit on my slide out keyboard tray. My MS Natural MM keyboard is about 11 inches from the top to the bottom and just barely fits, I'm thinking that LCD might be a problem, so just curious. If one of the stores where I live had it I'd check it out.

Guys, how does this compare to the "feel" of other older Logitech keyboards (like the one that came with the MX700) because I love how these other Logitech keyboards feel *but mine is falling apart from months of CS:source* so I want to buy this. Is it very bulky comparatively as well?

21.50" w / 8.75"d /2'h with the lcd closed and the feet up on the bottom.

21.50"w / 9" d / 3.75" h with lcd opened.

11" deep with palm rest attached

wow that's pretty sweet. How easy/hard are these keys to setup? One of my friends had trouble with the Saitek keyboard, setting up macros. I had to go over there, install it for him and show him how to setup the keys.

That's actually smaller than my MS Naturaly Keyboard, although it sure doesn't look like it. Thanks. I wish the BB near me would get it in, so I can check it out.

This thing really doesn't do shit.

I cant wait till some plugins are made for it like something for TS2, FPS or something usefull.
