PCP&C 510 enough for two 7900GTXs?

I would say yes, but it would be nice to know what the rest of the specs are. ;)

It should do it. The only other thing I can see, I suggest against the corsair, because for that price, you can get hte G.Skill DDR500 3-4-4-8 kit (black spreaders) and it's only $160

Forgot to mention budget, it's 3k...no Raptors....*goes to delete Corsair and add G.Skill to save $$$* Thanks for the tip. 150GB Raptor puts me over budget. Are the 74GB ones still worth it?

I'd go with 2 cheaper 200/250gb's in raid0, since it'll be faster.

I say screw the raptor, can you really live with only 69 gb formatted, and after windows, 65 or so GB?

What about this Opteron? Same speed, same cache. Does it need registered/buffered memory? It does fit in the socket, however.
EDIT: Never mind on that Opty, it's more than the 4800!

my second 7900GTX one the way and i need anew PSU but iam not going to buy 1KW for 500$
iam waiting for thermaltake 750w quad 12v rail 18 each or silerstone 750w

my current PSU realy sucks

No, the S939 Opterons do NOT require registered memory. They are basically X2's with more stringent quality control which some believe yeilds higher average overclocks.

You would have to get one of the worst 170's made to NOT reach 2.4. Really, that's what the worst ones top out at. I get 2.7 @ 1:1 rock solid and mine's only AVERAGE. Some of the later steppings are doing 2.7-2.8 on STOCK VCORE!! A 170 is about the closest thing you can possibly get to a gurantee of your very modest overclocking goal.

If you can handle a slightly higher price, you can choose your steppings.

Don't worry about that. The Opteron dual cores are really just Toledo's clocked in slower. Same as the Venus single-cores are really just San Diego's.

Whats the diff between the "AG," "XE" and "ASL" TurboCool 510s?
different connectors
check the wiring diagrams for details

Put it this way...
Any PCP&C510 still pulls a minimum of 34A at 12V. nVidia says 30A is enough for SLI certification- in fact, OCZ's ModStream 520W (28A) powers a 7800GT SLI rig just fine. 28A to 34A is 6A, or 6x12=72W. 72W will more than make up for the upgrade from a pair of 7800GT's to a pair of 7900GTX's- you're talking over 30W extra apiece, which is far more than you need!

I dunno wtf the nvidia rep was telling you because I have run dual 7800gtxs and dual 7900gtx's on my PC Power 510 SLI with no issues. The 7900gtx actually uses less power than the 7800gtx even though it has twice the memory.

This is along with 11 drives, a 148 opty, 2gbd mem, few fans, a 12v pump, lcd bay device etc...

you could wait a few weeks and am2 will be out and the prices will drop... then you would have the money for the 150 raptor... not going opty... your system sounds about the same as the one i am building just waiting for the price drop... you know if you build now in a month you can build the same system for a couple of hundred dollars less...

I'm not building RIGHT NOW, sorry if I gave that impression. I'm building in this time window:June to July. No, I will not wait for Conroe etc because what I am looking at is plenty capable, especially for what I plan on paying. SLIZone.com says the 510 is not enough, that's where I was getting the idea that the PCP&C 510 would be insufficient to power this thing. Would the Raptor change the power equation, or would it be fine? I might or might not do the Raptor, I might just be happy spending a little less for the same stuff. A pair of 7900GTXs should last quite some time. My only other concern is what I'm hearing about higher than usual rates of failure on the 7900s due to a weak capacitor or something....
EDIT: This is the thread that is worrying me. If I put $1000 in two videocards and then they take a crap, I am going to be PISSED.

Stay away from the factory OCed cards.

Unless you edit the BIOS on the cards to lower the delta, I agree.

PC P&C PSUs are the best consumer PSUs you can buy. They are the best in their class no doubts about it. Youd be better off with a 510 ASL than any other 500-650w PSU.

it will be able to run it (as the 510 watt rating is really more like 650w), however if you are buying one of these, I would instead get an enermax 620w which will perform similarly but has a much quieter 120mm fan as opposed to the 510's single 80mm fan screamer.

I am the king of overkill on this, gonna do a PCP&C850 so that I can reuse it for years and years...

Not worth buy a Pc & powercooling 510 sli or 850

Had problems with 7800gtx sli with PC &PC 510 Sli

Just bought an Enermax 620 LIberty and the problems went away

Stay as far away as possible from PC & Power cooling the make very loud power supplys

Stick with Enermax liberty 620, Epower 650, or Xclio 650

noise aside.. you have to be kidding me..

I have a PC P&C 510 SLI and it runs my comp just fine.(7800GTX in SLI)
The 7900 are supposed to have less power demand than the 7800s
nVidia recommends 34A for 7900 SLI, i recall.

It might be a little noisy, but Im not going to buy that its not worthy of its reputation.
