No directx 10 gpus for laptops for a good 2 years or so?

Directx 10 gpus may or may not run at 250w. Current gpus run at 140 w, and get shrunk down to 30w to save battery life.

The only way these directx10 gpus would be able to be put in a laptop is to implement the new form of battery that they have discovered and find a new form of cooling.

Other then that, all you'll get is today's card with directx10 tacked on them.

Just beacuse the flagship DX10 may use 250w (which I doubt, power estimates have been bogus many times before) doesn't mean that the mid range and low end DX10 parts will use the same power.

Also, do you not think that ATI/NV will shrink the DX10 part after they get good yeilds out of the current process? Obviously they will do the same.

Essentially, you are worried for no reason. I would be willing to bet a couple grand that DX10 mobile parts will be out within 6months after desktop parts.

Have to agree with this. It's going to be out before you know it.
 
Santa Rosa (mobile G965) laptops are scheduled for release in about 4 months. The integrated graphics core in that chipset is DX10. Thats what I'm waiting for when I upgrade to a Merom laptop.

I also agree that discrete mobile DX10 GPUs will arrive within 6 months of desktop parts. Low end and mid-range are the volume parts anyways. High end is just a small niche.
 
Not really. You have to remember these are high end cards. You should see mid range or even low B/C new laptops will ship with vista and thus manufactures what the user to have a good experice using vista
