Normal PC power supply, used standoffs/spacers to mount against unmodified Mac backplate.

Had to chop CD tray much shorter and get a short burner to allow clearance of the RAM when the motherboard swings into place.

Guts, need to clean up/sheath wires. Also need to get a good graphics card, using integrated Intel graphics now.

Used the original I/O shield with a few cuts, made major cuts to Mac I/O shield to allow it to fit in place. Power supply installation looks nice and clean. Got a swanky right angle power plug on there for no real reason. Board had no firewire so I just dropped in a firewire card, should get an Audigy with firewire and drop that in instead of the separate firewire card and crappy SoundBlaster card. That's free up a PCI slot and get me away from integrated audio which has no 5.1 or optical. There's the empty slot waiting for a decent graphics card. 7900? 1800? Don't know yet.

Some stuff left to do,,,
Gotta drop in a Raptop hanging off the SATA
Polish the plastic (a few scratches here and there)
In the future I will desolder the built-in audio header completely and cut less of the original Mac back panel - hey, I'm going to use a sound card anyway.

Well it's a PC Intel Core 2 Duo chip and motherboard so you could put it in the Intel Processor forum, but that seems like a bad idea now.

It's the Mac G4 tower case that makes it worth looking at so I put it in the Apple Hardware forum.

And it's a case mod.

I asked what to do. It might get moved.

what motherboard are you using?

Looking to upgrade my Windows box, but keep a Mac feel in the house.

/should be moved to case mods
//JM2C
///will stop making slashies...
////...right now

I like it. Consider getting a power supply extensions and trying to run the power cables under the motherboard maybe

Yeah, I had to get power supply extensions just so I could swing that big door down with the motherboard attached. Maybe I can find a source for longer power cable extensions. (>1 foot)

I've got lots of cleanup to do, like I said, but I figured I'd post it now and let people have a look. I tried to create a system that didn't have any wacky compromises like having the optical drive sticking out the back or having to use some outdated CPU so it would fit. I was psyched that I got the ATX I/O shield to fit in there.

Anybody want to buy this? :)
(Only partially kidding.)
I'd like to build a fresh new one from another case that I have but that's a touch on the insane side.

I would buy the case if you could send it to Australia :D

what PSU did you use?

I have been offered one of these towers with out a PSU for £25 inc postage.

There are some shorter ATX power supplies that fit.
I was lucky enough to find one at CompUSA, a local store.
It was actually their store brand and was short enough to fit.
The optical drive is an LG - they tend to be closer to a square shape and don't stick out into the internals too much. It actually burns DVDs really well at 16x with Taiyo Yuden media and the disks work in everything I've put them in - PCs, Macs, and DVD players.
I think Samsung makes shorty DVD burners like this too.

Why, whatever are you referring to?
How can an Intel-based Core 2 Duo computer run Apple's OS X for Intel-based Core 2 Duo computers?
:D
