Aftermarket Cooler for 7900GS?

Hello all,

I've searched and searched over the Internet and have yet to determine which aftermarket coolers will fit and function properly with a reference designed 7900GS card. The stock fan on my card is incredibly whiny and I want it gone. I've been looking at the AC Accelero X1 but the AC site states that it is not compatible with 7900GT cards and I believe the 7900GS is of the same design.

The other AC cooler that could work is the NV Silencer 5 rev 3 but I've read that people have to hack the end off to get it to fit properly and I don't want to have to hack off part of a brand new piece of hardware if I can help it.

Any assistance from those with experience is greatly appreciated,

Drivie

Thanks for the info but I'm more interested in one of the Arctic Cooling solutions. I've read that the fan on the Zalman can be a little loud (drones a bit)...apparently.

Also, I like the idea that the AC solutions make use of the video card's onboard connector to power their fans.

The NV Silencer 6 Rev. 2 fits the 7900GS but it doesn't cover the ram so you'll need heatsinks for those.

Link? Google did me no good.

Thanks for the update Unholy. I'm not so much concerned about cooling the RAM as quieting the fan. The stock fan is really loud.

XboxodX, did you have to mod your silencer to get it to fit your GT?

Thanks,

Does anyone happen to know if the Accelero X1 will fit the 7900GS?

Thanks,

I said that it was a bit loud. On max, it's the loudest fan in my system now for some reason (and I don't have all too quiet of fans!!). I would have it set lower since it doesn't really affect core temps too too much, but I'm afraid for my ram at 880 / 2.2v currently. Really want to have cooling for those be as active as possible. Even currently, the ramsinks are getting kind of toasty

Ziddey,

Thanks for the link to that thread. I thought that it looked familiar but I don't remember seeing all of the posts. It would appear that at least a couple of people believe the Accelero will fit the 7900GS. I think I may give it a try.

I recommend the Zalman VF900 which I put on a 7950GT.

It is very easy to install and fits dam near anything, near silent even at full speed and dropped my load temps 30C. Add to this the airflow does blow onto the ram sinks that come with it.

The down side it is a tad more expensive but worth every cent

Better read this SPCR review

Stereodude, thanks the link...specifically what am I supposed to be looking for in that review? Is there an important tidbit of info that I should know about?

Thanks,

Conclusion is a good place to start, basically says they are all good coolers with the Zalman 900CU coming out slightly ahead in performance and noise, and interestingly the 900Cu relies less on its fan to cool than the other coolers (indicating a slightly better overal design).

Mainly that the AC solution isn't quiet compared to the Zalman coolers, and don't cool quite as well.

Great, thank you both for that update. I'm reading through the review now. I wish they had included the Accelero in that review but maybe it was not available at the time.
