So I took a look at my farm...all 7 CPU's are running p2124 Lambda 5way melts. WTF? Every time I've checked the farm over the last two weeks at least 5 machines were running these monsters. (99 hours on my 2.66ghz C2D, 134 hours on my 3.2Ghz p4) It wouldn't be so irritating if they were worth more than 396 points. Grrr.

Yeah, they've effectively killed my points per day, I'm down over 1000 ppd because of those suckers.

Protein: p1862_Myosin6_PT_US_TIP3P_bbox
Points: 535
PIII 800
25.9 PPD on a good day
494 hours

A lot of these proteins are crap as far as points are concerned. The older gromacs I would get 40 PPD on with that system.

Ya

I hate those things as well. I prefer the 600 pointers, and I have checked the flag for large work units again.

Don't feel bad; we're all getting alot of them. Because of that, you aren't slipping in the stats dept.

Sounds about right for me. 5 days on my AMD 3200+ socket 754. I can do better with the 600's.

Thats slow.
I get ~76 hours on my X2's @ 2.2 Ghz and ~55 hours on my C2D @ 2.66 Ghz.

Luck ........... :D

They've been killing me too, every once in awhile I'll get a random GBGROMACS WU that boosts my PPD for a short while. Those 2124s take about 65 hours on my 4800+, and no, they're not worth enough. Just be glad that you don't get any p2055 WUs, those suckers take nearly 70 hours and are worth a paltry 193 points!

Fold some SMP units then. 1800PPD on average with SMP and GPU Client. Give it a try.

I'm working on that. I'm transferring the main rig over to Intel power first. I'm going to use my ASUS A8N32-SLI and X2 4800+ to build an SMP rig, I'm using my Opteron 170 and ASUS A8R32-MVP for a dual GPU folding setup. Well, actuall dual GPU plus one CPU core. It's just going to take me awhile to get all the bits and bytes together. All I can say is that I'm sure glad I haven't been selling off old hardware like I used to, it makes great folding equipment.

nnnnnGAAAH! My work machine just finished one of these after chewing on it for five days, and now it's infected with yet another!.

I don't think there will be any tears shed once the 2124 WUs run out.

yeah, I got a boatload at work too ..on some really SLOW machines...
some of these machines take a week and a half to fold these :)

Ick. I just checked mine and every single one is running 5 way melts. :(

I'm currently running one of these on my [email protected] and it's taking me about 27:04 per frame and total time of 45 hours for 208.5 PPD. That was after a frame that finished a bit slow cuz of some stuff running the background.

Then there's the PIII 800 at 2:47:07 for a total time of 278:31:40 for 33.7 PPD.

Finally, a Sempron 3000+ (socket A) doing 51:55 per fram, total time of 86:31:40 for 108.7 PPD.

Those are the ones I can check right now. My work machine is a P4 2.8 and it runs a bit slower than the Sempron 3000+ on these.

These are 392 point 2125's and not 2124's. They seem to be about the same overall, though.

This is in great contrast to the P1495 on the C2D. I'm pulling over 1000 PPD on that protein alone. Then again, it is a 364 bigpackets protein.

I just looked and I have completed 151 p2124's and 65 p2125's so far. When will these end?

Well, my ECS board cratered, so I ran to CompUSA and grabbed a Gigabyte GA-965P-S3...so no more Quad GPU :(

BUT! I can now get a stable oc, I have it on the medium plus setting so it's boosting to 3.1Ghz when the CPU is loaded. Here are my current folds:

CPU0: Protein: p2125_lambda_5way_melt_4_10011
[22:51:03] Completed 13800000 out of 20000000 steps (69)
[23:17:31] Writing local files
[23:17:31] Completed 14000000 out of 20000000 steps (70)
[23:43:55] Writing local files
[23:43:55] Completed 14200000 out of 20000000 steps (71)
[00:10:26] Writing local files
[00:10:26] Completed 14400000 out of 20000000 steps (72)
[00:37:26] Writing local files
[00:37:26] Completed 14600000 out of 20000000 steps (73)

And CPU1: p2126_villin_sigd3
[22:52:21] Completed 35000000 out of 50000000 steps (70)
[23:18:54] Writing local files
[23:18:54] Completed 35500000 out of 50000000 steps (71)
[23:45:32] Writing local files
[23:45:32] Completed 36000000 out of 50000000 steps (72)
[00:12:03] Writing local files
[00:12:03] Completed 36500000 out of 50000000 steps (73)
[00:39:13] Writing local files
[00:39:13] Completed 37000000 out of 50000000 steps (74)

So it's running WAY faster on this board...45 hours vs 99 on the ECS board...but still...45 freaking hours for 392 pts? Oh well, knock on wood that I backed up my system last weekend...I was using the on board RAID controller for my storage array ::Cough:: STUPID ::Cough:: so I lost all the data...nearly 700Gb's. No, not porn...not all anyway. But it taught me a lesson I already bloody well knew. NEVER use a raid controller you can't move along with the drives. So all the photo's I took during Christmas are safe, they got backed up, but I lost a whole project I started this week, I only have a few hundred pics still on memory cards :(

Woohoo, three of my rigs got rid of p2124..... only to get the seemingly worse p2126. I started when these were just going out, and I just couldn't believe that my PPD was lower compared to others. Then someone posted this thread on these, and others PPD started hurting from them.

 I just noticed that my core temps are hovering around 67c according to the Intel Thermal Analysis Tool...so I'm gonna buy a water cooling kit tomorrow. I want to get that down in the low 50's for 24/7 folding. ;)

Wow....got it OC'd to 3.33Ghz now...and EM3 shows 42:41:40 to complete a 5way. Not much of an increase for that much boost.

Thats about right.
My C2D takes around 55 hours @ 2.6 Ghz.
So 55x2.6/3.3 = 43.33 hours.
Not a bad overclock.

Luck ......... :D
