Has anybody been able to install Vista RTM on BadAxe2 (BIOS 2395 or newer)? I can only install it with BIOS 2333 only. 2395 or newer gives me a blue screen after the setup files are loaded.

Hi;)

If you would be so kind as to provide a little more detail, such as a stop error, perhaps we could help, but without that information, I'm afraid that it will be difficult for anyone to offer any useful advice.

Here is the stop error message I get when installing Vista x64 using BIOS 2395 and 2431:

Stop: 0x0000000A (0x00000040030F4980, 0x0000000000000002, 0x0000000000000001, 0xFFFF80009887205)

Same problem here with Vista 64 6.0.6000 Build 6000, slightly different stop error: IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL STOP: 0x0000000A (0xFFFFFD8000F69818, 0x 0000000000000002, 0x0000000000000000, 0xFFFFF80001C8F6a4). I've tried many different memory BIOS settings. I found that if you disable Core Multi in the BIOS it will boot. It seems that 2333 is better for overclocking than 2395 or 2431. Here are a couple of other threads:

Disabling Core Multi worked for me.

I assume that's not an acceptable solution, but I think it helps indicate that this is not a RAM problem. We need to try to communicate all this info to Intel so that a future update will address these issues.

I noticed here that 2395 added support for the Q6600, another Quad core CPU. Maybe that support broke something with the QX6700.

I did what mfas did, and posted a trouble report on the D975XBX2 using the email form for the D975XBX.

That's most likely what happened. Thanks for sending the trouble report.

RAM Guy-

Does Corsair send its memory to CMTL for testing, or does it participate in Intel's Vendor Self Tested Memory program? No Corsair RAM is in either list. I got this reply from Intel:
Ensure the brand and part number of the memory module(s) you are using are listed as compatible with the Intel(R) Desktop Board D975XBX2 (see both "3rd Party Tested Memory" and "Vendor Self Tested Memory" at http://www.intel.com/design/motherbd/bx2/bx2_mem.htm#1).
It's difficult to get them to look harder if they suspect it's a RAM issue.

Thanks-

Sean

I suggest PM'ing a link to this thread to him, or else starting a new thread in the Memory subforum. The likelihood of Redbeard or one of his colleagues seeing this thread in its current form is extremely low- it's in an unrelated section, with no mention or Corsair- or memory of any kind- in the title.

I had the same board and memory (Corsair) along with the Intel E6600. This set up gave me endless amounts of grief. I'm still trying to figure out what the problem was but I'm definitely leaning toward the motherboard. From the posts circulating this "overclockable" mb should not bsod on a slightly alternate setting of the RAM voltage. I still don't know for sure what the correct voltage and timings should be. The Vista install may have added another set of problems - what I don't know. Their web site says the MB is Vista ready but I doubt its Vista certified.

I've emailed Corsair as well and have a long thread here:

Keep in mind the tested memory are the modules not the actual RAM sticks, and Corsair uses the Micron modules I believe.

I'll be interested in following this and the other threads.

Same problem here. I can't boot Windows Vista Ultimate x64 with neither BIOS version 2395 nor version 2507. Not even to safe mode or from the installation DVD. Error message is 'IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL.

I have a Core 2 QX6700 and have found that if I disable 'Core Multiplexing Technology' in BIOS 2395 or 2507, I can boot Vista but then it only sees two cores. Only with BIOS v2333 I can boot Vista with 'Core Multiplexing Technology' and thereby all four cores enabled.
