I had 4 computers doing folding on my ex's balcony in her highrise apt, and she supposedly had some negative reaction with some medication she was taking, and threw all of them off the building, and here are the photos to show what's left of it.... after 50lbs going through a 200ft fall.

I'm glad no one was killed...... These machines have been dedicated folding machine for couple of years, I did not see the end coming like this.

2 were IBM intellistations M Pro, 2 were HP pavilion P4s.... The force of them falling was so great it flattened a full steel chair at kookooroo's dining area. The restuarant was not open, otherwise you would be reading this on CNN.

The cops had to stop her from throwing more things down so they went up and raided the apt, and something happenend and she ended up in a hospital. Shes not talking right now, and I'm in the process of requesting a police report.

the only unconfirmed thing i heard was, she had a knife and was using it to cut power/video/ethernet/whatever computer cables that were still attached and kept the computers from falling, and i guess when LAPD saw her had a knife, the shooting went down there.

how can you not? noone in their right mind would do something that stupid that could possibly have killed someone.

Sounds like your own fault for keeping your RIGs at an ex's place... No offense, but that concept is just retarded unless you are homeless or something.
 
A couple of minor questions:

In the last three pics, their appear to be holes in a door and someone holding something labeled LAPD. Why are they there and what was the LAPD thing?

Also, the KVM cables would have been useful, why were they cut and thrown?

It was pretty neat to see the Coolermaster fan stay on the mobo while the Intel cooler lost one side. Gonna have to have R&D make the coolers stand up to a 14 story drop now.:D Also, maybe, just maybe, those slot 1 processors survived. They looked good in the pics.

she even threw my switch out, and power surge protectors, USP, kbd, mouse, ethernet cables.... the entire setup gone out of balcony.

1 slot 1 survived, rest of them cracked. AGP port came completely out of the mobo in one machine, ram broke in half..... stuff i've never seen before.

If you want to build a dedicated folder that can get ~1400PPD for $450 total buying new parts PM me (it will be down to $400 around June)
 
2 P4 cpus, 1 slot 1 cpu 1ghz p3, and 6 sticks of ram that popped out on impact. Nothing else, not even the poor KVM switch.
 
This gives a new meaning to the other thread died in the line of duty.

Will you be able to collect insurance for the loss?

Can you provide the link to the article in the paper that talks about this? (I assume a shooting goes with an article in the local paper)

have you heard about anyone who insure their computers here? Maybe i don't know much about insurance but auto, house and life are the most common insurances, never heard of PC insurance.

I wasn't there I dont' know. Appearantly no one was there besides her and officers.

and please dont tell me the reason this happen was cuz your ex's BF was jealous at the fact that you had machines running there....cuz seriously...if this is just a stupid act of jealousy...im going to be pissed
 
i think the new bf is just mad you had more ppd or he folded for a diff team

And are you intending to have her charged with destruction of private property and malicious endangerment (might have hit someone below)? If not, why not?
 
On the insurance note our insurance company lets me carry a special rider for my computer equipment since since I have a few servers etc that would cost a bit to replace.*sorry off topic* Also sorry for your loss *plays taps*.

A Core2 rig running the Linux SMP client should be able to outdo all those dinosaurs at once, and use less power correct? :)
