I got a high pitch buzzing noise from my laptop.
I can't isolate the area the noise is coming from. Its annoying because when I have no music and it is dead quiet...it seems so loud.

When i scroll up and down (for example if I scroll up and down on this page), the noise stops....SO WHILE im scrolling there is no noise...as soon as i stop scrolling, the noise immediatly comes back.

Whats the deal? I guess it has always been like that, but I never noticed, and now its really annoying.

This noise your hearing is actually the cpu. It has something to do with the cpu entering lower power states. Try download a program called "Rm Clock" that should fix the problem, btw does this only happen on battery. Mylaptop has the same problem if its running off the battery,

As stated before, the problem relates to C2D processors entering a particular power stage. As a note, if you download the program the previous poster suggested, you'll need to fool around with your power settings a bit, and will reduce your battery life.

You might want to see if Acer has released a recent bios update for your notebook - last week Dell released new bioses across the board to resolve some intel microprocessor problems, and installing the update stopped the buzzing that I was having on my XPS 1210.

Thanks for all the info.

I downloaded RM CLOCK, and have no idea what to do with it. Can I damage anything with the program?

I check for bios updates. My laptop says bios V3.3 the most recent one on Asus website is V2.3

Which CPU does your lappy have? I'm wondering if my dell 1705 will do this with my T5200? I'm assuming it does it when it hits a certain frequency when running on battery and it throttles the clock speed down.

I've documented this on the forums here for my Thinkpad with the same issues over the last three months. It is indeed the CPU. BIOS updates are the only reliable fixes - don't even both with RMClock. That program is too confusing even for IT specialists like myself.

I've sent a message over to my Lenovo channel manager to see if he can prod some of the technical higher-ups in releasing a BIOS Update already.

Ok,
After messing around with RM clock...i got the buzzing to COMPLETELY stop.
Still...I would rather have a natural fix (ie: bios)....Ill wait till Acer comes out with a new bios update.

Thanks for all the help. Now I know my laptop is not messed up :)

And yes...its a C2D T5200 1.60ghz
