I am debating.. is it worth it to get a computer monitor for double to tripple the price and get a 1600p advantage..or should I just buy a tv at the same size but risk the resolution difference.

I am looking for a 30" widescreen monitor. I do alot of web and photo work.. so higher res is nice. I will also be doing a ton of gaming on it.

I debated between getting a 30" monitor and a 32" HDTV. This is how I saw it:

1) HDTV is bigger and has a lot more input options
2) HDTV has a smaller resolution (1080p), but still looks good at 32"
3) With a smaller resolution, you will have a better frame rate in games
4) Price

Monitor:
1) Larger resolution for more work

Thats all I could think of for monitor. In the end, I favored getting a TV.

For gaming an HDTV is fine. Sure its a lower resolution, but you get bigger size and better framerates, lower cost, theres lots of stuff to like. TVs generally seem to have beter built-in upscaling, while on a monitor you will want to run native-res. However if you are planning on doing a lot of work (photoshop, etc.) then obviously the high-res is an asset. Depends what you are looking for and how much you want to spend. I'm gaming on a 32" HDTV (720P) and even that looks great for many games, but its next to useless for production.

Im getting this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824113013

Unless you guys can convince me to get a HDTV for less. This will be my primary monitor... I am really only concerned with "screen door" effects sitting so close you know?

If anything, I do see a positive, I dont have to get a HD tuner for my computer. I do gotta get a 3rd graphics card (goign to be running dual monitors with the 21" I already have)

my setup.. replace the left monitor with the 30" and move everything to the right.

Im sorry I didnt go in a few pages.. this has been talked about tons.

I looked at alot of screenshots and I think Im convinced a tv is a better deal. I have dual 8800 GT's and I might have to get an 3rd graphics card to use both monitors at all times... hopefully I can find out how to get that to work fully... if not Ill use the sli toggle switch.

THANKS EVERYONE ON THIS FORUM :)

I have seen pictures on both....The TV version isn't clear by any means nor is the color correct...Get a 30 inch PC LCD if you want crisp sharp images.

A good, properly set up TV, should be perfectly sharp and the color can be calibrated.

However, for professional applications, something like an NEC 24 or 26 inch IPS based monitor seems a more natural choice...

I think im getting both... I found an extremely nice deal on a 47" lcd 1080p tv for 700 and I will be looking at a 30" samsung monitor if I cant deal with the big monitor as a....monitor.
