Went on a little trip yesterday to visit family in Mass and happened to go into Best Buy there to poke around. I found that they had ONE Gateway 6860 FX Laptop on Clearance for $714 :)

We promptly grabbed it and called it a win for my son who has been saving up for a gaming laptop for a couple months now.

It seems that the 7811 models release has caused BB to dump their existing stock of the older models.

Now, take this for what it's worth, as I have been to BB in my hometown and this model is still $1349

It was brand new in box, not a refurb or open box at all.

Makes me kinda sad that I spent so much more on my P-172X FX a couple months back... lol

Oh well, this is the [H] world, price on computer stuff is always gonna bite you, right?

Real nice price, too bad it's a big YMMV, other BB's may not be so generous :p

More importantly, I hope your son *truly* appreciates the new laptop!

Just a heads up for everyone:
A: My BestBuy had it for $914.
B: We can begin to expect to see fewer of these crazy BestBuy deals moving forward. They just introduced a new program where is a lot of times, it's better for the store to send it back to their distributors than to sell it, they get more. I assume they are going to be selling it on the BestBuy private auction site.

Hey, that's dealtree, that's the ebay seller I bought my 6831fx from... I got it for $760, but it was clearly used. Must have been a return.

Not really. I hate English. It is my worst subject in school a long time ago.

I was a biology major. :D

Biology ftw. As a side note and off topic I know, as an evolutionary biologist, I LOVE Spore...

Dealtree, huh? So BestBuy really does send their "broken" and returned goods (ie, PS3) to Dealtree. Makes so much sense now

Yeah, many on slickdeals report that this deal is spotty at best as far as the $714 price, but if you can use that plus the $100 off coupon from the no-contract no-earlyterminationfee internet signup, it's a great deal. I snagged a Gateway with a Radeon 2600 512MB GDDR3 (120 SP's, 256-bit memory interface at near-desktop clocks), a 2.0ghz Core 2 Duo T5750, 4GB RAM, Vista x64 SP1, 15.4" screen (WXGA) for $499 + tax out the door with it earlier this week, works great.

Yeah, dealtree is a company bestbuy uses to return stuff.

i wouldnt keep that thing more more than a year, gateways have a common problem of $&*#($% Dying.

Thanks, but I think you want to write "Your Mileage May Vary" ;)

If you would have read the Instructions/FAQ before posting you wouldn't have had to make a dumb@ss remark about somthing 99% of us already know.:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:
and nice find to the OP:)

I have this laptop and paid $1249 for it a couple of weeks before the 7811 came out. This is an awesome deal. Actually, if you can get it for anywhere under or around a grand it's a good deal (lower is just better of course). The 6860 is a great laptop. If you're interested in picking it up, I would hit BB as soon as possible, before they're all out. If you're lucky enough to have multiple BB's around you, hit a few until you get the best deal... ;)

I'm active in a Gateway laptop forum over at notebook review and I haven't seen many issues with the 6860. I didn't go for the extended warranty for another $300+, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I'm currently spending some time in Europe and wanted to check out the offers, tried to access that auction site and this is what I got:

We have detected that you are attempting to browse from a country outside of the United States or Canada.
We do not ship to any other countries.
According to our records, your IP Address (87.XXX.XXX.XXX) is located in Luxembourg.
If you feel this an error, please contact us. (auctions@dealtree.com)

If that isn't pathetic, I don't know what is.
That they don't ship outside the US or Canada, I fully understand, but that you can't even look at their offers is lame.
