Rosewill 600 watt psu - 39.99 free ship on egg

I wouldn't trust a rosewill PS with anything, I would much rather pay more for something of quality.

What's wrong with rosewill's quality? Any reason spec wise that the psu isn't that good? Any techs data that deems this psu inferior? That psu has got around 300 five star reviews. Can't be that bads, lol.

Sniff...smell something burning...oh PSU shoot flaming out of back and spike harddrive, etc..

If their PSUs are like their wireless USB adapters, I'd buy one. This Rosewill adapter cost me 20 bucks, gets better signal than my Linksys cards, and has built in Vista 64 support.

Can you trust the specs though? Read some good PSU reviews, and you'll see many units can't do what they claim. Any company can take a PSU that should be a 350 watt unit and slap a 500 watt sticker on it, or even a 750 watt sticker. *cough* Ultra *cough* But I won't mention any names. The thing is 350 watts is enough for 95% of people's home computers, so they can get away with it most of the time.

So do you think Rosewill is a company that knows their power supplies, and has a proven record for only top notch merchandise?

I have no idea whether this is a good PSU or not. But when it comes to a component that can short out and ruin your entire PC, I'll stick with brand names that are known for their power supplies.

rosewill has a long list of good products, unfortunately most of their PSU aren't on that list....

also, does anyone else purchase random PSU when they are going for rediculous low prices just incase you need them later on or am I the only one...

I can testify to the quality(or lack there of) of Rosewill PSUs!

Maybe I'll do this in storyline form:

  • Decided to build cheap upgrade for my dad for xmas.
  • Found nice Rosewill case on NewEgg with included 450W PSU @ $45-hmmmmm
  • Receive Case/Install components.
  • Press the "On" button.... Nothing.
  • Re-check all connections are secure.
  • Press the "On" button again.. Nothing! ... Sit in dismay for a few seconds & it comes to life, only to hear a "Pop" noise and the sight of pretty blue smoke eminating from the back of the case.
  • Confirm my suspicions by taking a whiff from the vent holes from the back of the PSU. Yep, burnt electronics smell.
  • Just to check, I put in an older 250W PC Power & Cooling PSU I use for testing components into the rig.
  • Press the "On" button & lights start flashing, fans start turning... Success!!!!
  • Change the boot order in BIOS to the DVDRom drive so that I can install Windows & notice that the 250GB 7200.10 SATA drive isn't listed as a device to choose from. Check the Hard Drive part of the BIOS & nada is listed.. WTF? I put my finger on the drive to see if it's spinning & it's completely dead :(
  • Grab an identical drive that I had as a slave in a different PC & install it. This one gets recognized by the BIOS so I proceed to install XP Pro onto the unit.
  • The next day I get on the "Live Chat" with Newegg & explain the situation. The guy tells me that I would need to send the entire case back for a refund or an exchange of the exact unit with the PSU. I mention the HDD & he says "sure, but I'd need to know the invoice number". Not having the time to page through 10 pages of Newegg order history, he gave me an email to send the info to him directly when I found it.
  • Found the invoice for the HDD.. F'in A!!! I bought it in 2006 & I'm sure it's out of any warranty that Newegg would offer. An email exchange with him pretty much sums that up.
  • So, I ponder what to do.. the same email message regarding the replacement of the HDD, the CS rep tells me that they simply would not exchange the PSU. It's either all or nothing :( ... I told him that I was pissed, so he suggested contacting Rosewill directly by using RMA@Rosewill.com
  • Sent an email to that address outlining what has happened & get a friendly response from a gal named Tina. She tells me that she'd be happy to take care of the situation by doing the same thing as the Newegg rep told me.. I'm right about pissed right now & tell her that I like the case, I just want the PSU replaced and something done about my HDD.
  • We exchange emails for about a week with various questions that she has & tells me that they would not replace my HDD without me sending it into them for them to test it. There is no way in hell I'm going to send a HDD to an OEM that might possibly be able to retrieve any "sensitive" data off the drives so I tell her that only on the condition that I can physically destroy the drive.
  • She keeps forwarding my request to management & I keep getting the same replies. I explain that I don't care if it's a back-up drive with less capacity. I just want the destroyed drive replaced because I don't have any extra drives.
  • I don't hear anything back from Tina, so I send an email to her again. I get a reply the next day asking for the order number for the case from Newegg... UGGGGGG!!!!
  • I reply with the number & in a very stern matter change the topic back to replacing the PSU and that I'm not going to go through this crap again! She replied that she has to forward my request to her manager.
  • I get a reply email from her 3 days later stating that they want me to send the burnt our PSU back to a particular gentleman (at my expense mind you) for testing & after them determining that it wasn't foul-play and the PSU is shot they will send me a Retail 550W unit from Newegg.
  • 10 days after I sent it back, I get a phone call from a gentleman with a heavy Asian accent that tells me that he's replacing my unit & needed the address... UGGGG!!!
  • Received said unit 7 days later.. it is now February 16th. I'm out a HDD as well.

So, I went through posting all this so others do not make this same mistake. If I prevented just one person from buying one of their PSUs, I've done my civil duty!

As far as some of their other products, I haven't had any issues with them! Let me make that clear!

I've used more Rosewill power supplies than Corsair, proabably almost triple. I've NEVER had an issue with a Rosewill PSU. I've had two Corsair PSU's have straight up dead rails. Rosewill is my goto PSU for budget builds. I think I'm also done with Corsair too. PCP&C is the new top dog for me.

Anyway, in for one.

Can it safely power an oc'd quad and a gtx295?

My personal feeling is absolutely not. It's like everything in life though. What works well for some works horrible for others.

I simply am stating that I could never put a $400+ VGA and a $300 CPU in the same rig as a $50 PSU.

The PSU is probably the most important part of a build always!! Look at it as if you were trying to put a Toyota Camry engine in a Ferrari. Looks great on the outside, but it really isn't going to get you anywhere fast!

I've had a Rosewill 950W PSU running for probably close to a year now, and it's been great. No problems whatsoever running my Opty 185 w/ 8800 GTX, and now running an i7 920 with a GTX 280. 4 hard drives, 1 optical. Has worked great for me and was a great price with a combo.

Just wanted people to see another side of it rather than people dissing on Rosewill.

Also, I've had some high-quality Antec PSUs fail before, but this one has been great.

Looks good for 40 bucks but I wouldn't trust running it any >75% usage for long.

the bad thing about Rosewill is that they seem to have a huge hit and miss in terms of quality where as other brands like Corsair and almost all good.

It's a 600W PSU with only 35A on the +12V rail. That's a big warning sign right there considering that there are many 450W to 500W PSUs with that much amperage on the +12V rail. In addition, the PSU has an enormous +5V rail which shows that this PSU is oriented towards older +5V based systems, not today's modern +12V based systems.

That 600W PSU shares the same manufacturer as this Rosewill PSU (ATNG):
http://hardocp.com/article.html?art=MTYwOSw4LCxoZW50aHVzaWFzdA==

However, do note that ATNG can and does make high quality PSUs when they're asked to. Rosewill doesn't ask them to make good quality PSUs often.

When it comes to power supplies, take Newegg reviews with a grain of salt. A vast majority of Newegg PSU reviews are written by noobs, ignorant, idiots, stupid or otherwise not PSU savvy people. When it comes to PSUs, stick to PSUs that have been properly tested by sites like www.hardocp.com or www.jonnyguru.com
Can it safely power an oc'd quad and a gtx295?

Not for long.

I would buy the corsair 400w for 40 after promo code before that one. I have had 3 corsair, and not 1 problem. I ran a oc'ed e8400 and a gtx 280 for months on the corsair vx450 psu.

This one isn't the greatest but its not trash. The oem is ATNG. I would assume it would handle your average system just fine.

I think it would make a decent backup unit. I have a 500w one sitting in a box. Haven't done any testing on it. I just have it sitting for a backup unit or future budget build. I don't have any experience with ATNG. Used huntkey, delta, lite-on, most of the big names, too, but never ATNG (at least that I knew of). Are all rosewill PSUs ATNG?

The only thing I would worry about is the PSU zapping the drive or other component. I know drives are pretty sensitive. Seems like a really good deal, and the one nice thing about mass Newegg reviews is that you get a decent feel for how many are DOAs and die quickly or fry people's components. To this date I've never had a PSU fry a component. I've definitely seen my share of cheap PSUs die, but never seen them take anything else with them. I guess I have at work though. It sucks bad enough to have your PSU die, but to take something with it, that might even be out of warranty. That REALLY would suck. I wish I had some PSU testing equipment. I have four unused brand new PSUs sitting in the closet, and I would test them all and post reviews! Someday I want to set up my own review site .... :D

I have yet to see a Delta or Lite-on Rosewill unit.

I had that same PSU running my system for two years just fine .... then I started having random stability issues . BSOD's . After long search for the possible cause i finally took the PSU apart and found 3 bad cap's on the 5V rail.
Replaced Rosewill PSU with a Corsair and everything is running smooth again.
What i have learned of this : Only buy PSU's with high quality cap's !!!

Oh I wasn't saying that delta or liteon made rosewills, just that i wasn't familiar with ATNG like I was with those other OEMs that manufacture psu's for other companies.

Funny how people make generalized statements that this psu will blow up without any technical data/reason as to why. Probably the same materials used in this psu are the same as a Corsair. Corsair marketing punditz are ats its agains. Tired of companies like Corsair using black marketing tactics to make people thing their psus are somehow better.

Are you saying that Corsair's PSUs aren't better than this one? Because if you are, I'd like to have some of what you're smoking.

I am smoking you. Please explain how corsair is better...other than, "Joe from Hardforums said rosewill psus will blow up." They probably both use the same quality caps any ways, but I'm not sure.

They don't, and caps aren't all that make them better. There is a frontpage to the forums with that kind of information.

And even Corsairs aren't the absolute top tier.

Very narrow-minded and ignorant comments. There are numerous power supply tests that professionals conduct to test the hardware under various conditions and stress tests. They check the amperage on all rails and how the PSU will perform under various loads. Those tests are often very conclusive and show which PSU is better relative to others.

Dude, you really need to start looking at real PSU reviews. Corsair PSUs have been proven to be better than many other PSUs out there. Even then Corsair isn't the top tier as Paul pointed out. Actually read a real PSU review for once and you can see why Corsair PSUs are so well recommended:
Corsair 400CX 400W PSU
Corsair 850TX PSU
Corsair 1000HX PSU
Corsair 750TX PSU
Corsair 550VX and 520HX PSU
Corsair 620HX PSU

All of the above are PROPER PSU reviews, not that those crappy PSU reviews where they just hook up the PSU to a system, see that it doesn't explode and thus give it a gold star.

And before compare the insides of the $50 Corsair 400CX with the insides of this $50 Rosewill. You can clearly see the difference in quality and design between the two PSUs.

So yes Corsair's reputation for quality PSUs is well assured. Rosewill's reputation for quality PSUs is not as shown in the above Rosewill PSU review.

Not saying this is a bad power supply but when you read a power supply label and it says the efficiency is less than 80% and most of the watts is not on the 12v line; you should probably be wary regardless of the name on the label.

Now checking out the actually rail stability requires cracking open the box and actually testing the power supply.

I'm thinking you'd better put the pipe down and start reading. ;)
