PS3 displayed on 1920x1200 non-HDCP? (Component to VGA)

I have a Soyo 24" (DYLM24D6) which, of course, isn't HDCP complient, and thus has no HDMI inputs. I have a relatively old (~2 years) Component to VGA transcoder module (VDigi VD-Z3) that i've been trying to use and haven't been able to figure out how to get it to display the PS3 onto my monitor (I've heard of people successfully being able to use Component to VGA Transcoder boxes, so I'm confused why it doesn't work for me)

I've tried numerous settings via the dip switches on the transcoder, and haven't been able to find a setting that would work

Probably going to have to continue playing on my LCD TV in my bar until I can pony up the cash for some sort of alternative to what I'm currently trying to use, unless anyone has any advice for me?

Thanks in advance

Get a new monitor OR a new component to vga transcoder.

Would a transcoder be required? I've heard of people using a simple component to VGA adapter but I'm worried about the resolution being dropped to 480p which I've heard is the result of using that method, anyone have any concrete information on that route?

I'm really not looking forward to buying an HDFury2 only to find out it doesn't work on my monitor for whatever reason

Found the problem, my transcoder (VDigi VD-Z3) isn't capable of 1080p, after manually setting the component resolution in the PS3 display settings to 720p, the VGA box works

maybe some day i'll get a newer one that's capable of 1080p

Wait. Are you talking about playing movies on the PS3 or is this just for gaming??

If for gaming then the PS3 shouldn't really give a damn what cable you're using. Also, you can get a HDMI to DVI cable to connect it to your moniter. You shouldn't need to use a transcoder since you can easily just use the DVI input on your moniter.

HDMI to DVI (adapter, or hdmi>dvi cable) only works if your display is HDCP compliant, which mine isn't, so I just get a blank screen

as for your first question, it's for gaming, obviously I won't be able to watch bluray movies via component on the PS3 (at least, that's my understanding), bluray requires HDCP for whatever reason, so they'll only play via HDMI device

No, it's not. HDCP is for a digital connect which includes DVI. HDMI, simply, is DVI plus audio. Anyways, HDCP only matters when you're using media (movies, duh) that requests the HDCP handshake of doom. It doesn't matter for games which is why I suggested it.

I don't think the PS3 will go to 1080p except over HDMI (this applies to movies and games).
PS3 will play bluray at 720p over component.

PS3 will do 1080p over component, at least... in the GUI it does. I don't know of any 1080p games for PS3 that I can try out though

As for what CrimandEvil said, I wasn't looking to get into an arguement with you over something that wasn't even related to this thread, whether or not *you* think an HDMI>DVI adapter should work on a 1920x1200 non-HDCP LCD monitor, the fact remains it doesn't, and doesn't work for anyone who's tried this method, they're getting blank screens

The only way to use the PS3's HDMI port on a non-HDCP complient monitor, so far that I've seen, is to use the HDFury2

Can't use adapter... VGA is RGB+some other stuff. Component is YPbPr. They are inherently different, a simple adapter wouldn't work(not sure who would even bother making one) as it will require converting the signal.

You could try the demo's for some of the games that are listed in the 1080p games thread in the console gaming forum. Since you can run the GUI at 1080 though I assume games will be no problem.

From the research I did a month or so ago PS3 is incapable (by design) of playing bluray at 1080.

I have used my PS3 on a 720p television using both component and HDMI. I have also used it on a 1080p TV using composite, svideo and HDMI. I would have thought it could do 720p over svideo, but no dice (This all happened while I was waiting for my HDMI cables to arrive in the mail).

well its weird, my monitor is of course capable of 1920x1080 but when choosing the display setting in the ps3s component configuration, 1080 results in a blank screen but 720 does not. this leads me to believe that this is a limitation of the vga transcoder, another thing to mention... i tried running this same configuration on my 46" with a blank screen as well
