Hi all - Just started folding with 2 clients running on 2 machines, will add more within a few days. 3.2 Ghz Xeons.

My aunt Suzi is being treated at Stanford for cancer btw... Its bad but not hopeless.

721

I just started folding, got all the PCs in my house up and running. 2 Clients on my Laptop that will run almost always (1.7Ghz/core), and 2 comps running 2Ghz Athlons. Count that as 4 I guess, plan on adding more as I get the chance to borg some friends/other family PCs since they already gave me permission.

720

Just looked back at all my old posts and since I just added another quad I'm up to 16 in total... so this 1 more should put me at 16 total :) hehehe

Don't let this die. Borg for the Horde!

Borged our Tech's computer in my office.

719

Also folding under [H]ardApe for now.

Guess I forgot to add the newest additions :

4 new quads with 2 VM instances each
2 new PC for friends with 2 console clients
1 PS3

To go :

706

That will compensate for the increased difficulty of maintaining a farm at work due to the increased restrictions lately. All the new additions is currently folding for [H]ardApe for about 20k PPD extra.

I'm still here somewhere....

Borged my roommate's Athlon 64 X2 4800 Brisbane for the summer while he's gone.....give's me til August to make something to replace it :D

704

Got my Backup server up and running, and since all it does is backup my Parents Laptop + iMac, I decided to let it fold for the cure.

703

Folding for [H]ardApe.

Borged my work computer. 2 console clients.

701

Boxen at home. 2 console clients

699

Quad core will be built soon. Will try and borg some more work computers as well as my folks computer.

Before I deliver a pc I built for a friend, I replaced the smp client by 2 console clients (she is computer illiterate a bit so asking to keep a smp client running is too much).

Net gain :

698

Forgot to add my last Quad

696

On a side not if F@H is forcing us all to 1 SMP per Quad with the new 2665 WU's are we going to have to go back and subtract out the lost clients? Cuz I could see us hitting over 1,000 with this change!

Three dual quad xeon 2.5s.
Only temporary...do those count?

As long as they're folding, yes. Once you have to remove the clients, you should probably bump the count back up, though.

See this is the nice thing about being the Sr. Sys Admin. Any rebuild machine that comes my way gets to submit to borging. Though, keep in mind, for all my most recent clients none of them are using 100% cpu at idle. Most of them use 10-20% of the cpu at idle. Simply because the slightest hick-up in any computer and clients will start to complain.

Borged my new work notebook, a C2D @2GHz. SMP client. This should boost my ppd nicely.

671

+9 Clients ranging from P4 @ 2.8 to C2D at 3.0. All running from 15-25% at idle.

I can't speak for everyone else here, but I've never experienced a "hiccup" while folding, even when at 100%, or when using the SMP client, or when using the most recent graphical client. I recognize you're not willing to risk a bad experience, but your chances of actually messing up are pretty remote.

Yeah :( Everytime I run the GUI or the Console version at 100% on idle I've noticed a noticable lag on my computer after a few days (when leaving the computer on 24/7). It gets pretty bad, whereby my solution is just killing the client.

Meh, I am not interested so much in PPD or any of that jazz. Its part of the reason I setup the clients to not accept deadline driven units. All I care about is folding computers so that scientist can find a cure. If it takes a week to fold a WU then so be it.

Got around to setting up clients on the other home computers. 4 of them make ~218PPD, and then there's a laptop that I'm unable to monitor.

"Deadline driven" work units are all there are. Timeless units are no more. If you set any clients to get these, they're probably not getting any work.

And I think you're looking at it all wrong. Getting the units done and back to Stanford as quickly as possible is the most helpful to science, not just point whores. We can't move on to the next batch until the current batch is all complete.

Fair Enough :D Don't worry, all the WU I get assigned get done before the deadlines anyways.

Dusted off the AthlonXP mobile system clocked at 2300mhz and put it to work on Amber units.

That's really interesting that you get bad lag on those machines. I personally have a hard time understanding how FAH could be causing such lag, since I've never experienced it on the dozen+ computers I've touched. Are you sure nothing else is causing that lag? Firefox 2.0.x running, perhaps?
