Official BenQ FP241W Thread !!! Info, Pictures, Reviews

Yup, that's what 1:1 is in the OSD.

Hey!

I bought used FP241W and wondered how I could make sure does it or not have 1:1 Pixel Mapping.

Under monitor menus I found DVI-D and 1:1 option. But does this mean that it has it?

Monitor is March 2007.

Any advantages to update firmware?

And last question. (Too big thread to find)
What are optimal Color, Contrast & Brightness values?

hey 10e I tried the basiICColor display program (trial) that you recommended but I wasn't able to notice a difference. As long as the profile it creates is set as the default profile in color management, it should take into effect immediately right? Or after a restart? In any case, I restarted just to make sure but it didn't seem to help.

My benq looks great, it's pretty bright and I turned it down a lot. How much is a typical monitor calibration kit, including the piece that rests on the monitor? I looked at the basiccolor site but they don't seem to have a store front.

Has anyone used s-video with this monitor? I'm getting weird moving lines across the screen with this connection, especially when there are yellow and blue colors. Question is whether it's the cable or device I'm using (MadCatz s-video cable with PS2) or the monitor outlet.

Ok, to continue with my s-video problem:

Now it gets really WEIRD: if I plug in my audio cable and get sound then these image problems happen.

But if I remove the White/Red audio plugs I get no sound but the image problems go away.

What could possibly be causing this, especially since s-video does not carry audio?

EDIT: By the way, if I plug in only the black s-video cable I get the weird image problem. If I also plug in the yellow composite video cable I get no image problems (assuming the sound is off). What is going on here?

Suddenly my DVI-D port stopped working. VGA works fine.

I tested it with diffirent cable and with diffirent computer. No luck.

Have you got any ideas?

Finally my newly ordered BenQ FP241W has arrived.
At the beginning i decreased brightness a little, watched some pictures and turned on a movie. The colors are great, and no in-movie blurs...after 30 minutes of work, the lcd suddenly turned itself off, even though i didnt do anything. It was connected, as well as my computer, to UPS so its not electrical network blame. The lcd never turned itself on even though i tried different rooms and different power cords. Tomorrow im driving it back to store. I hope the second i get will cause me no more problems. (im not ready to give up on this model yet).

what was the manufacture date on your monitor manynames?

Not sure what to tell you ontelo... perhaps you could check the bios to see if there is some video option that forces vga or dvi..not sure

This monitor killed my eyes when i had it, i couldnt look at it more than 1 hour without getting a headache.

Have you tried the HDMI at all with a DVI to HDMI cable?

If it is non-operational as well then the digital connection may be pooched.

Does the port say "no cable connected" even when you have a cable connected to it, or is there no display whatsoever?

If not then it is quite possibly a warranty claim.

May 2008!?? Wait that's last freaking month! Can that be right? I thought they stopped making these monitors a WHILE ago.

The date on mine is June 2007!

Let me know how that one operates for you. I want to know if you end up seeing any blackouts with one with a manufacturing date so new!

It's strange, today I swapped DVI output on my video card (6800 Ultra has 2 DVI conectors), and I haven't had a black out since. I was getting 1+ an hour before...now I'm going on 3+ hours without a single one...but I'll keep you posted.

An update to this: 18 days later, still no blackouts. I built my new rig finally a while back and changed the video card. Not a single blackout after switching DVI outputs on my old GPU OR a single blackout on the new GPU (GTX260). I am very happy with the color and the rest of the jazz this non-TN monitor has.

Did you buy from benq store?

OK an update to this! I just experienced what may have been a blackout, but it was for MUCH shorter than the previous blackouts on my old system. It was probably for < 1 second, and I'm not completely sure it wasn't caused by Windows or some other force. Strange.

The stupid FP241WZ is buggy. Anyone is getting this? I have to leave the monitor power on. If I turn the power off on the monitor after turning the computer off. The monitor won't power on after I boot the computer up and pressing the monitor power button. I have to totally unplugged the power bar from the monitor and plug it back on for me to be able to turn the monitor on.

The black out is still happening but less now.

No, that's weird, and doesn't seem right.

The only thing I'll ever get is sometimes it will come out of power save mode and it will be dark and the picture will be strange. I power cycle the monitor and all is well.

This happens very rarely and it hasn't happened in a long while on my FP241VW.

Does anyone know what the difference between the silver & black trim bezel FP241W's??
Is just an aesthetic color option?

Thanks

Yep, that should be the only difference.

Just make sure if you are interested in the unit, that you can find a post June 2007 build date. This firmware is excellent and fixes problems associated with HD devices and screen sizing/aspect ratio control issues (where the screen is not the right width and height showing 720p and 1080p content).

The FP241VW is not $499 and listed as a preorder, Now $170 less than the FP241W before using the discount code.

Sorry if this was posted.

I'm planning on getting FP241W and I'm slightly discouraged by reading about the 'flickering issue'... I will be using it as a secondary monitor that will be connected to my laptop via HDMI connector... Is the 'flickering' only related to DVI or have people also experienced it with HDMI connection as well ? (the graphics card will be Nvidia 9800M GT)

I've just picked one a FP241W up, with a build date of October 2006.

I've had a look in the menu, and can see the 1:1 pixel mapping option there. But does that mean I have the latest firmware version?

I've noticed that if I select the 1080p option in the nVidia control panel, and have the monitor set to 1:1 I get big black bars at the top and bottom. I think thats correct?

Likely.

The store.benq.ca site says the FP241W is "brand new". I know that AUO stopped production of the V0 panel (originally in the FP241W and LG L246WP) but they may be replacing the V0 with the V2 which they are apparently using in the FP241VW.

Either way, this is good news. The 24" non TN LCD monitor space is slowly withering away with only the 2408WFP and Samsung 245T left at this price range, and the NEC LCD2490Wuxi-BK at a much higher price.

Maybe they are producing new ones :D

I got it repaired (they replaced some thing inside) and it works great now.
I had experienced sudden screen blackouts, 1 or 2 second each, but after changing dvi output on my graphic card to second one, this problem vanished as well.

Bought my FP241W (June 2007 Model) back in March from OcUK and a few weeks back a fly got in behind the panel,i emailed BenQ and they said that it was covered in the warranty and they rang saying they would drop a replacement off so i boxed mine up and waited for them to deliver.

Now bare in mind other than the fly behind the panel my BenQ was in prestine condition and just less than 4 months old.

Now the replacement i got was dirty, marks all over the screen and older than the one it replaced. Each corner was scuffed aswell as the top, some pics of the replacement:

I rang BenQ and they promised me they would send another one out in a better condition to match the one its replacing, well this one turned up today with a Dec 2006 date on it with a nice crack:

Not happy at all,i'm now waiting for the service center to call to arrange another replacement to be sent out.

Anyone else been in my position and managed to get a decent replacement out of BenQ?

I got also cracked replacement.

My problem was that the DVI port stopped working. Replacement worked nicely for two weeks... now the same problem.

The weirdest thing was that my panel was FP241W not the Z version and it had (replacement) AMA-Z function in the menu.

Should I pick this up from ncix for $580 shipped?

I can't tell from this massive thread if I am likely to get a post june 2007 build so I have 1:1 pixel mapping.

Also I have an old ass nVidia 6800 AGP card with DVI. Am I going to have major flickering problems because of this?

Another question. If I have the B4-125 firmware am I basically good to go and not needing to worry about build date anymore?

Will the FP241VW coming out on 8/15 have any updated features? It's really coming down to that vs the V2400W for a new gaming monitor. I'd really like to know if there would be a downside to choosing the FP241VW.

The MVA panel itself differentiates FP241VW from V2400W. If you are looking for better viewing angle FP241VW should be a better option.

Ive just had my 4th replacement turn up,its a April 2007 model.

Should i have access to the "overscan" option as i cant access it as its just greyed out.

The overscan option is only available with a video source plugged into component or HDMI where either one of these inputs is connected to a source. You should not have access to this option with DVI or VGA. If it's there, but greyed out, then congrats, you have the latest firmware.

Monitors with older firmware did not even have the overscan option available in the Picture-Advanced menu.

Good luck with your latest one.
