What is "coil whine"? I have heard this referred to several times, but not sure what it is. Does it happen under certain conditions, or is it constant? Is it something some people are sensitive to, and not others?
My card is as quiet as can be. I cannot hear it whatsoever over the sound...
did they raise the msrp for this card? i bought the day of release for $299, but i've seen prices fluctuate on newegg between $299 and $309, and anywhere from $299 to $340 on amazon depending on availability (it's been OOS on newegg several times since release).
so you spend $30-40 on an aftermarket cooler... why not spend $25 more and get the GTS and get 10% more performance?
i agree with you that $65 is problably not worth the minor increase, however if you're going to have to buy stuff and modify the GT to be happy, the perhaps the step-up starts...
personally i just tell em should something happen within a reasonable amount of time (say, 30 days or 90 days) to send it back to me and i help them rma the card. this offers them some protection, without you having it hanging over your head indefinitely.
they would have to pay double...
i have 3 radeon 9800's (one is an AIW, which has never been overclocked), and unfortunately every single one of these cards has exhibited this problem. they all perform fine in 2D, but gaming brings out artifacts, making them unusable in that regard.
my guess is that, over the years there's a...

yea, was the EVGA one off newegg.. good card, oc'd to 770Mhz/1.1Ghz. benchmarks and synthetics are faster, tho honestly it doesn't really "feel" faster - not noticeably different from my 8800GTS 640mb in "realword gaming experience". perhaps if i were running higher than 1680 native res...

Quad Copper Pipe Cooler
edit: back in stock again but at a higher price: $229 less $30 MIR
why suggest a cooler? if you're gonna do that, suggest an 8800GTS. You can get the BFG 8800GTS (G92) for $239 after MIR: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814143119
that makes the GT irrelevant if you have to upgrade the cooling.
this might be a good buy: MSI 512MB OC...
ati tool does not currently work on g92 GTS.
i also don't think memory bandwidth is the limiting factor, at least in crysis. @1680, with gpu core of 800mhz, i get about 3 fps increase (about 10%).
keeping the gpu @ 670 and increasing the memory clocks to 1.1Ghz results in a 1fps avg. very...
