    Exploded case?

In college we ran our fileserver out in the open in a corner of our apartment, a PentiumII if I remember right. It sat on a middle shelf of a cheapo shelving unit, sitting on an upside down box. It was pretty reliable, but when we had to start/restart we crossed the jumper on the motherboard...

Free 802.11n AP for attending IT network seminar

Listened into the webinar yesterday. I was actually impressed with the presentation. Waiting to hear back about the AP being shipped, though they brought it up a few times.

Apple's policy on product refreshes when you just bought an item?

I bought a Cinema Display a couple weeks ago. With the rumors of the new Cinema Display coming any day, does anyone know what Apple's policy is if you've made a recent purchase of a new product? I thought I remembered that they would give you a rebate, or opportunity to trade it in, but I...

    Low power home ESXi server

Hmm, the e350 route is really tempting. Is that really enough CPU to power a web-dev server and Windows 7 at the same time?

    Low power home ESXi server

Hey, it's been a while since I did a system build (Apple convert), let alone a server build. I've been running two separate Linux/Windows servers at my home for few years. Recently I've made my mission to lower our power usage and my first victims are going to be those servers, so I'm looking...

My first mac: an Apple hater reviews a Macbook

I'm not going to get into the debate, but just FYI for this part: System Preferences -> Energy Saver is where these options live. The labels may not be the same, but the functionality is what you describe.

    most narrow keyboard?

Maybe the Apple Wireless keyboard? Love mine, thought I'd imagine you'd want to do some driver magic to swap the keys around in Windows.

Western Digital 500GB Portable USB External Hard Drive $50

I carry both a 160gb USB powered and the above 500gb everyday in my laptop bag. The 160 is my Windows VM and 500gb is my work archive. I work at both home and the office, so portability is extremely important, as is having my data with me all the time.

Western Digital 500GB Portable USB External Hard Drive $50

Note that the Toshiba one is a full-size drive and requires an external power source, not to mention being much bulkier and heavier. The WD one is USB powered. I just bought one the other day (being delivered today) before this was posted. $50 is pretty good for a portable 500gb drive. Next...

iLife 11 in non-Apple retail stores?

I'm wondering if anyone knows when iLife '11 will show up in the non-Apple retail stores. The closest Apple store is 2 hours in either direction. We just had a baby today, so was actually hoping to grab iLife and take advantage of those letterpress cards. A 2 hour drive is kind-of out of the...

Medal of Honor or COD: BO?

Ah good. That makes me feel better.

Medal of Honor or COD: BO?

I just realized that CoD:BO is by the same company that did CoD:WaW (I know, maybe I've been in the dark). I didn't play it, but I thought the general consensus was that WaW was kinda crappy. I've been looking forward to BO, I hope it's still on the MW2 level or better.

    Newegg.com Deals 9/22

So, I'm going to try and counter all this negative energy... I know I will fail, but Newegg has usually done me right. Of course I still shop around, and yes I buy from other places as well. I still usually go to Newegg first though. I just bought some extra ram for my MacBook there this...

    MBP refresh?

Errr... I fall into the serious graphic designer, for the past 10+ years (Art Director) and have been using a 15" MBP for the past 2 years. A 17" Dell before that. Now, I do usually have an external monitor to plug into, but any design app always stays on the MBP because of the superior color...
