I'm not going to get into the debate, but just FYI for this part: System Preferences -> Energy Saver is where these options live. The labels may not be the same, but the functionality is what you describe.

I carry both a 160gb USB powered and the above 500gb everyday in my laptop bag. The 160 is my Windows VM and 500gb is my work archive. I work at both home and the office, so portability is extremely important, as is having my data with me all the time.

Note that the Toshiba one is a full-size drive and requires an external power source, not to mention being much bulkier and heavier. The WD one is USB powered. I just bought one the other day (being delivered today) before this was posted. $50 is pretty good for a portable 500gb drive. Next...

I just realized that CoD:BO is by the same company that did CoD:WaW (I know, maybe I've been in the dark). I didn't play it, but I thought the general consensus was that WaW was kinda crappy. I've been looking forward to BO, I hope it's still on the MW2 level or better.

Errr... I fall into the serious graphic designer, for the past 10+ years (Art Director) and have been using a 15" MBP for the past 2 years. A 17" Dell before that. Now, I do usually have an external monitor to plug into, but any design app always stays on the MBP because of the superior color...
