In college we ran our fileserver out in the open in a corner of our apartment, a PentiumII if I remember right. It sat on a middle shelf of a cheapo shelving unit, sitting on an upside down box. It was pretty reliable, but when we had to start/restart we crossed the jumper on the motherboard...
Listened into the webinar yesterday. I was actually impressed with the presentation. Waiting to hear back about the AP being shipped, though they brought it up a few times.

I bought a Cinema Display a couple weeks ago. With the rumors of the new Cinema Display coming any day, does anyone know what Apple's policy is if you've made a recent purchase of a new product? I thought I remembered that they would give you a rebate, or opportunity to trade it in, but I...
Hey, it's been a while since I did a system build (Apple convert), let alone a server build. I've been running two separate Linux/Windows servers at my home for few years. Recently I've made my mission to lower our power usage and my first victims are going to be those servers, so I'm looking...
I'm not going to get into the debate, but just FYI for this part: System Preferences -> Energy Saver is where these options live. The labels may not be the same, but the functionality is what you describe.
I carry both a 160gb USB powered and the above 500gb everyday in my laptop bag. The 160 is my Windows VM and 500gb is my work archive. I work at both home and the office, so portability is extremely important, as is having my data with me all the time.
Note that the Toshiba one is a full-size drive and requires an external power source, not to mention being much bulkier and heavier. The WD one is USB powered. I just bought one the other day (being delivered today) before this was posted. $50 is pretty good for a portable 500gb drive. Next...
I'm wondering if anyone knows when iLife '11 will show up in the non-Apple retail stores. The closest Apple store is 2 hours in either direction. We just had a baby today, so was actually hoping to grab iLife and take advantage of those letterpress cards. A 2 hour drive is kind-of out of the...
I just realized that CoD:BO is by the same company that did CoD:WaW (I know, maybe I've been in the dark). I didn't play it, but I thought the general consensus was that WaW was kinda crappy. I've been looking forward to BO, I hope it's still on the MW2 level or better.
So, I'm going to try and counter all this negative energy... I know I will fail, but Newegg has usually done me right. Of course I still shop around, and yes I buy from other places as well. I still usually go to Newegg first though. I just bought some extra ram for my MacBook there this...
Errr... I fall into the serious graphic designer, for the past 10+ years (Art Director) and have been using a 15" MBP for the past 2 years. A 17" Dell before that. Now, I do usually have an external monitor to plug into, but any design app always stays on the MBP because of the superior color...
Was walking around the local Target store last night and ran into a friend browsing the movies. He said "Hey, do you know anything about the Logitech Harmony remotes?" Went over to look at them and they were the Harmony 610 series, marked from $70 down to $50, in the clearance section of the...
Just ordered mine through over the phone. No problems at all. Told them I have a Macbook, wanted to put Win 7 because some of the 3D apps I use are Windows only (which is the truth). The rep was pretty friendly, he asked if I wanted Home or Professional and shipped on a DVD or download...
A long while ago, let's say 15-20 years ago, I remember getting a kids magazine and some issues had BASIC programs on the back. You could supposedly type out the script provided and run some game or whatever the goal was (I never got them to run). From what I remember, everything else inside...
I picked up ODST the other day. Since it pretty much comes with all or more of the multiplayer from Halo 3, is there any reason to keep the original Halo 3 disks? I haven't played the singleplayer in months, maybe over a year. I'm thinking I can trade it in for some credit at the local used...
It looks like it's going to be a Natal project? I can see the "King" thing melding well with that, with the dialogue that I can imagine being involved in being a king. That, plus the Milo and Kate video at the bottom of that page, narrated by big Pete M. himself. Looks like a major...
I have the jumpers on cable select. I normally wouldn't use that, but the working 120gb is on CS also. Maybe I'll try a master/no slave jumper setting.
I can try the partitioning, though I would think that would apply to the OS, not the bios.
What are the odds that it's a bum drive?
I'm upgrading a computer I put together a few years back. It's has an Asus A7V8X-X motherboard. I'm adding a Western Digital EIDE 500gb drive to it (upgrading from a dying 120gb).
I updated the bios of the mobo with the latest non-beta release, 1013 from 2004.
So, I installed the drive...
Hey all, I'm building my first HTPC from parts some my buds got together for me.
So the system I have right now is:
VIA Mini-ITX w/ integrated 1.3ghz CPU
Integrated graphics
512MB Ram
Hauppauge PVR-150
160gb hard drive
DVD-RW
So right now I'm playing with Mythbuntu. Granted, I've played...
I'm making a Flash/AIR app (it will operate on the persons local machine, instead of through a browser) that will integrate with some server-side code. The client basically needs to login, and retrieve data from the server for that client only. Simple stuff.
But, how do I do that securely...
To stop your text from overflowing the background, you need to clear the main-content-content float. Read up on this page, http://www.positioniseverything.net/easyclearing.html, that'll help with that issue.
The text is also going over top of the menu div because the menu div is absolute...
Yep, entire series. I've had the poor quality DivX episodes for a while. It's worth picking up the DVDs just to be able to watch them all in a nice crisp picture.
I just picked up the Firefly DVD set at my local target for $17.99. They were running a bit low, the display out front was empty, but they had some in the isle. The price isn't reflected on their website. Been waiting for the price to drop on that to pick it up, about time again.
A friend of mine and I both recently got hired at the same place, doing website development. He has a masters in software development, I don't. We both have similiar previous experience. We both get paid the same salary.
It looks like the solution I'm looking for is is a reverse proxy. I set up mod_proxy on a test server and looks like it's working the way I'm wanting it to. Like I said, my Apache experience is lacking, but from what I can tell it works like so:
www.myserver.com is the production server...
Dunno if this will help the bigger problem, but "soap_client" looks like it's an object, and "call" is a function within that "soap_client" object. So find the class that "soap_client" is created from and the call function should be there.
Well, I was hoping Apache already had a means of doing this. I should have explained myself a little more as to my reasoning. I'm a noob at just about anythind dealing with Apache, so forgive me. As I understand it, with mod_rewrite, a browser sends a request to one server. That server...
