    Looking for new sound card

The Asus sound cards are very nice sounding, just depends on if you're more into gaming (Creative's cards support more games directly) or music/movie listening. (where the Auzentech/Asus/etc cards blow out Creative's).

Intel Core i7 Full System Drawing @ [H]

I'm sure my poor old Pentium D system would appreciate a break after being used for 5 years!

Did anyone else get their settlement from ATi?

It probably goes to the lawyers (seriously). I would assume ATI/Nvidia had to put up a pot of money that if left unclaimed would not go back to the companies. At best it'll go to a charity or something, at worst I think these things normally revert to the law firms. Cash it. Or sign it over and...

Did anyone else get their settlement from ATi?

This is the first I remember hearing anything about this (missed the original thread, and I bought about 3 ATI cards during the period), so that sucks.. maybe so few people claimed they split the money between everyone that did, resulting in huge payouts for a few people? Congrats...

    Anyone else miss Aureal?

The Vortex 2 was an amazing card. I still remember how amazed I was going from a Soundblaster AWE 64 Gold to it... I had an SBLive card for about a month and it popped and crackled like crazy... Creative dragged out tech support beyond where I could return it, and then started giving me totally...

    Kenwood KR-V7070 audio/video thing?

I am still using a Kenwood KR-V6070 (IIRC the only major difference was a new remote for the 7070)-- it was never a top of the line amp but it sounds very good for my uses-- at an apartment where I can't particularly blast music at full volume anyway. I don't think they'd be worth too much...

The HD 3850 AGP User Experience

After doing a ton of research it seems like the Sapphire AGP cards are the most trouble free brand in terms of general compatibility with other hardware and driver sets. I read a lot of issues with the PowerColor cards specifically with VIA chipsets and the like. I think people go Sapphire to...

New Xonar beta drivers 1747 available (dated Sep. 29 2008)

(I hope this wasn't posted already) Looks like Asus has posted a number of new (beta) drivers for the Xonar family.. reports go from a bit mixed to very problematic, so try at your own risk..! (Pasting in the links from Drago's post at...

    Songbird users?

I think the issue is Songbird takes FOREVER on large initial collection scans, to the point it seems frozen, but it's really just chugging along. If you have a big collection, just set it off and walk away for a few hours... It's promising, but definitely has some rough edges..

Google Finds No Privacy On Private Roads

If this was "Microsoft Streetview" and not "Google Streetview", would everyone saying people wanting privacy should just get with the times be saying the same things? I still think Streetview is really on the line of what should be allowed-- I think comparing photographs that are in some...

Microsoft Money Switches To Digital Distribution

This doesn't entirely make sense to me-- is it an online download, or an online service? As the "annual releases don't make much sense..." statement really means nothing if all they're doing is letting you download the latest yearly version. And " retailers and other partners have asked for...

Onboard sound less noisy than PCI card??

Sounds like some sort of driver conflict or (gasp) IRQ issue. The last time I remember having an issue like that (erm, like a decade ago?) was when my sound card, video card, and mouse were all on the same IRQ. There's no reason you should be having noise like that, something else is up in...

Do you remember your first graphics card?

First Windows PC was in 97.. Matrox Millenium ->added Diamond Voodoo2 12mb->ATI All In Wonder 128 16mb->added 2nd Voodoo2 (awesome!) -> ATI AIW 8500DV (which never worked right, got it replaced with) -> ATI AIW 8500 128mb -> X800XL -> 4850 The AIW 8500 128mb was a great card that gave its...

Are Google Maps Good or Evil?

Love Google Maps, not a big fan of Streetview. Reason being-- sure, it's "public" in the sense that anyone driving by can see it, but there is a big difference between having to make the effort to be there in person (or send someone), versus just being able to look it up online at any time, from...
