Your OLED nut hugging is getting way out of hand. Both technologies have their place and I do not consider one universally superior to the other currently.
What you're doing is just obnoxious. You're like the OLED version of that PG32UQX guy.
I just asked someone else with the monitor and they told me Gamer 1 is the only mode that shows a DisplayHDR logo so I'm assuming its the HDR400 equivalent. He tested Gamer 2 and it still clips at 600nits.
Vivid does some kind of tonemapping and...
It clipped at just under or at 600nits in the HDR calibration app. This was with peak brightness set to High.
I wish I remembered to try vivid mode but that thing is already back at Bestbuy. Maybe if a update comes along I'll order one for myself.
Well that didn't last long. He's already putting back in the box to return lol.
I think its a decent monitor but some of WOLED's shortcomings are as present as ever like the super grainy greys and soft text quality. As a panel technology there...
Peak brightness is set to high in the OSD. VESA DisplayHDR app also reports max CLL as 603 and max peak luminance the same.
Either these are being shipped with incorrect HDR output or its intentional.
EDIT: We checked for a firmware update and...
The 1080p/480hz mode looks really bad to me. I think you have to be very desperate for the extra 240hz to justify losing the visual clarity of 4K.
Even in Doom Eternal where you can achieve 350-450FPS, the fact that I can count pixels completely...
I was able to check out my friends whose arrived today and gotta say I much prefer the HDR performance of this over the 32" QD-OLED I had. Its probably because its not getting quite as bright and clips at only 600nits on the HDR Calibration app...
Rtings real scene measures a 10% highlight. This discussion is going into bizarro world. Someone is justifying the lower brightness capabilities because higher brightness hurts their eyes. Alright.
I dunno man based on your preferences I don't think you would have liked the Viewsonic at all anyway. I think it might be better to stay in OLED land for your gaming monitor since you really value the 240hz and motion clarity.
The Asus version might get 10-15% brighter on a 10% window. Until a data sheet is available, we won't know what the panel is really capable of at that window size because all of these manufacturers love quoting 1-3% to attract noobs.
I saw that listing had no original box. Never trust randoms to ship a monitor without the original packaging.
I've learned the same thing. New or used only if you can see it in person or they're someone you trust to ship.
At least it was eBay...
