Vista + new 2GB Stick + any game = BSOD

Hi all, My brother emailed me for some help with a memory upgrade he's doing to his system. He has been running on 1gb for a while in Vista and bought a 2GB generic stick. After he installed, he had this problem (see below). He returned the stick for another but the problem remains...

"DabsValue" / "Usys" Monitor resolution not quite right..

Interestingly, the monitor reports 1600x1200 when windows sets it to 1680x1050. When I (in XP) set it to 1400x1050, the monitor says it's 1680x1050 -it does fill my screen then but the text still doesn't look right and upon inspection, it does seem to be making everythign 'short and fat'...

"DabsValue" / "Usys" Monitor resolution not quite right..

Hi all, I bought cheapest 20 inch monitor I could find - which was the dabsvalue one. It claims (in the book) to have a native resolution or 1680 x 1050 @ 60hz - which is what I'm after. When I set the resolution to this on the laptop, the monitor shrinks the display area, leaving a...

    8800GTX 'dualview' display?

An update for those in a similar position. I don't know how to 'fix' this issue but at a random point after a few reboots the menu (in the linked image) just started to work - it included dualview as it should and worked hunkydory Dunno why but cest la vie.

    8800GTX 'dualview' display?

Hi all, Just unboxed my 8800GTX today, pleased with gaming performance (duh) but I can't get it to enable dualview mode. Dualview is used when you have two monitors with differing resolutions. It allows you to configure each screen seperately. I need this becaus I have a 19" and a 15"...

Recover NTFS file table on a busted HD?

Hi there, A colleague has an external drive with tens of gigs of 'stuff'. I'm not sure *exactly* what he was doing but something went wrong and now when he plugs it into a PC, it reports as needing a format and he is unable to get access to his files. He found a program on the web...

Anything else I should try before giving up?

Thanks for the help everyone. I take on board advice re: power supplies. The problem in my case seems to have been a hosed windows install as suggested above. I reinstalled, patched etc and had a 6 hour Civ 4 session yesterday. It seems that the system is working fine just now (even if...

Anything else I should try before giving up?

Thanks for the advice guys. Suspecting you may be right about the power, I first tried another random power supply (450 watt, even less branding than my other psu), this didn't change anything - can boot up, as soon as windows loads, the monitor switches off. after about 30 seconds, the pc...
