there is a solution I have found with the 2405FPW.
It requires going into the service menu while the vga is connected. Under the special factory settings hidden screen there are some settings for adjusting vga signals.
offset1: R G B
offset2: R G B
Gain : R G B.
I found that droping...
turn down the brightness, it's a very bright monitor i have mine set to 0 and no problems, but yeah if i have it set higher the brightness of monitor will fatigue your eyes.
from what i understand these devices just use industry standard chips sold by genesis and others for a monitor driver. All they do is hook into the monitor driver output and translate that into a vga signal or another dvi signal. Now since these are using standard chips that are used in many...
it would be cool if they had a box that just stripped the hdcp and still outputed dvi. But I knew that there would be boxes that stripped hdcp. there are way too many non hdcp monitors out there as a market for people not to take advantage of. It kinda defeats the whole point though, if people...
You're best to only use 1280x720. Reason being just about all xbox games render internally at that resolution, so to avoid the xbox scaling it's better to output the native signal. On a crt that should equal a sharp picture, on a lcd, it will probably need to scale to native res of the panel...
do you live in a high altititude area? I know with plasmas and certain power supplies that they can buzz a lot more in high altitude areas. In that case there may be not much you can do.
Like i mentioned in another thread, i recently received the 2405 and in the service menu it states my unit is a V2.0 unit, and i get zero buzzing and it's very quiet, so possibly check to see what version you have by activating he sevice menu, if you don't have 2.0 then ask for it explicitly...
I recently picked up a 2405FPW after seeing the prices of the new samsung 24inch. Even if does have HDCP, it's not worth double the money, in 2-3 years the money i save i can pick up the latest 24inch lcd with other assorted improvments for less than what i paid for the dell i reckon.
BTW i...
Hmm yes the prices certainly are a bit on the expensive side, looks like samsung doesn't want to sell many of these if they can't match 2405 prices. Also the response times look interesting, now it's being quoted as 10ms in this links above. meh it's probably like all the other lcd releases in...
rrhomes i hear ya, I can definately see samsung picking the cream of the crop for this panel and no doubt they have a better overdrive implementation than what they give oems. If it does indeed have HDCP I'm sold as well, this will be my next panel. I held off getting the dell because i had a...
I can't seen any mention of the HDCP in the press release or documentation, are you guys sure this monitor has HDCP?
Also the 6ms g/g is an odd figure considering samsungs 24inch panel info on their site lists a 8ms g/g for the 24inch panel they make currently.
btw i assume the newer dell...
I while back i heard someone mention that in the new year there was meant to be an update of the 2405. What I'd like to see is 8ms and HDCP support, to be honest the HDCP support is the only thing holding me back, we know with vista to watch certain HD material you'll need HDCP complient...
could be based on the new au optronics SMVA that's used in the 191b, apparently they were going to release a 23inch model based on the same tech that's used in the 191b panel. So we could have a sub 16ms across the whole colour range large screen panel finally.
Nup sounds like your dvd player doesn't output a macrovision signal when using progressive, since when enabling a interlaced signal you loose sync which shouldn't be the case. It appears these units still have issues with macrovision based sources via component.
The 2405 will blur with movement, so on quick turns and straifes you'll notice that scene blurs up, that's the issue you'll find. It doens't bother some and others absolutely hate it. But I'll guess you'll find out soon whether it's a problem for you.
Apparently the component ADC they use doesn't filter macrovision, the macrovision signal goes through to the gm1601 chipset and confuses it and cause sync problems. It's basically a design fault they may be fixed but the problem is we'll never know if they put a better component ADC. If you want...
Yep and I have severe doubts the so called 12ms grey to grey is even real. Since it's a PVA panel which have been terrible for grey to grey in the past and having used one, the unit blur's way to much to have a response time that equates to 83 updates a second. Plenty of marketspeak when it...
This info was taken from an interview with engineers at the recent CES, they were explaining that their current line of faster response time panels don't actually have any improvements in the physical panel. All improvement are comming from new improved overdrive electronics which over volt and...
For starters what people need to realise is that the panel is capable of 8m but only with the right electronics. All of these newer panels comming out with 4ms and better grey to grey are using the sale lcd substrate and physical panels as previous gen, but they have very different overdrive...
Well for a fact the 2405 so called 12ms grey to grey is just plain wrong. At 12ms response i would expect the monitor to handle up to 83 changes per second, if you use the monitor with games at 60fps you can see blur and clearly the pixels can't respond anywhere nearly the 1/60th of the second...
I managed to try one out today and yes it does blur, a little disappointed actually on smooth pans in fps's, the screen totally blurs up and that was causing my eyes to get swore since my brain thought my optics were out of focus. I was hoping the improved grey to grey would minimise blur but...
the samsung model seems more like a TV than just a monitor, with the tuner and speakers it looks like you could use it as a small hdtv not just a pc monitor.
Speaking of getting screwed, I ordered mine 2 weeks ago and was told I'd have it in 10 working days, now dell australia are telling me that they can't get more stock until early may, so looks like I have to wait another 4-6 weeks on top of the 2 weeks they've had my money for. Not happy at all...
It might depend on which model xbox you have too, i remember on later xbox's the replaced teh connextant video chip with another cheaper video chip, so possibly newer models xbox's are the ones pumping out the inferior component image, i have a first gen xbox with a connextant video chip so when...
We had some neovo lcd's monitors which came with glass surface, the glass surface like a lot of plasma had some sort of colour filter that depened the blacks, but t did suffer like crt's from reflections of the glass, if you had a bright room you'd hate i'd guess.
We've had quite a few traders beat down some of the display in anger with their phones or punch the screen. You'll get a black hole or funny discolored pixels, you can touch em but any strong force hitting the display will crush the crystals and kill pixels. I wish more lcd's came with...
I don't think you can fix the shimmering with setting the refresh rate, trying disabling the shaders in the graphics options, i beleive the shimmering is related to the ground shader, it's been well known for a while that with increases in shaders, it also creates more aliasing and shimmering...
funny enough a lot of older games work fine in widescreen, ie if you're able to add custom resolutions in config files you can quite easily use 16:10 resolutions and the games scale the hud and create a viewport that's widescreen looks good. got to the www.widescreengamingforum.com for info on...
Your lcd is probably a lot sharper than your crt was, hence why you are seeing the shimmer. when using my crt, it's very sharp for a crt and i see shimmer in the textures with ansitropic filtering maxed out, it's related to the game textures and the gloss shinny ground shader effect they use.
Using my xbox on my sony plasma 42X1 I too have noticed these slight wigglies in the signal, I can only notice it up very close to the plasma but it appears that xbox signal is probably not as clean as it could and flat panel scan converter creates that wiggly effect on lines, it's only very...
I did some comparisons with tripple buffer, vsync and using 60hz vs 85 refresh on ut2k4. The 60hz refresh actually to me played a bit better, ie the frame rate was pretty much locked on 60fps, where as the 85fps had little dips here and there, the dips creates lag which imo ruins your gameplay...
Dim-Ize, also try and enable tripple buffering where available, you may need to tweak ini files for some games to enable, tripple buffer + vsync = smooth frame rates at the best possible performance.
I did some tests over the weekend, i have a 21inch trinitron and run it at the highest refresh rates possible, ie between 85-120hz. Now I've always been a vsync off kind of guy and I found that if the refresh rate is very high, you can hardly spot any vsync tearing, it must be a timming issue...
scribbler what component signals are pumping into the display, ie is it 480p or 576p / pal / ntsc discs? I remember a bloke from dba forums noticed the wavy distortion at the top of the screen with 576p video signals.
If you were used to high refresh rates on your old crt were disabling vsync didn't cause the bad tearing that you see, you'll need to enable vsync to remove the tearing you're seeing, it's just a down side to being limited to 60hz in refresh rates with lcd's.
ImLazzy do you have one of these new dells or have used one to know how good the motion blur is, i want honest opinions from people with senstive eyes, ie you can spot 60hz crt flicker a mile away.
In terms of plasma's and motion blur, they uses phospors so they're far better at motion than...
Well since dell has a 15 day satisfaction i guess i'll just have to see for myself, if I can detect blurring it will be going right back and I'll stick with my 21inch trinitron.
Any CS players with the monitor, how do maps like dust handle with motion blur, I've found in the past that bright...
So people agree that the 2405 still blurs but doesn't ghost. That disappoints me, I always took the ghosting comment was related to bluring that i see on lots of lcd's, to me that's more annoying than ghosting, in fast games you loose the ability to see fine texture and if you have quick eyes it...
I noticed benq also has similar overdrive technology and now most lcd makers are harping on about how their grey to grey is now fantastic, I'm glad to see the whole industry is on the ball with grey to grey improvements, sorely need for lcd to match crt in ghosting imo.
