You could also try just one video card. Even one 8800GTS should be able to handle 1080i just fine. Maybe something is screwy with your sli configuration? My GTS 250 plays 1080i just fine and its not much better then just 1 or your 8800GTS,s, and you have a better cpu than I do.

The only way you can run those voltages thru the chip is if your using LN2 for cooling. Definitely not meant for 24/7 use. OP, nice results. Ivory Bridge seems to respond well to extreme overclocking.

I always assumed that all socket 775 Intel CPU's IHS's were soldered until recently. I remember people de-liding the IHS off of the original C2D and having to melt the solder to get it to separate from the die. It is interesting how Intel has switched from solder to TIM to solder then back...

You have to remember with today's Intel chips, we have a load plate that grabs the IHS to hold the CPU in place. Much different than the old AMD Athlons. On Intel, if you remove the IHS, the load plate would have to clamp down directly onto the cpu pcb and may not hold the cpu in place...

IB isn't soldered. All other Intel chips have had soldered IHS's as far as I know including SB.

It can be done, but it's more involved and it means melting the solder without damaging the die, not for the faint of heart. I agree on testing IB with the IHS off would be instructive.

I just looked up the FT02 case, and wow I agree with enginurd that is a sweet case.

The key to quiet computing, is having big fans that spin slow. Look for a case with big fans on the back and top. Also look for after market cooling for your cpu and your GTX480. The above should quiet your PC considerably.

Have you swapped the power supply? If not, try that. If it still does it than the only thing left is the motherboard.

Before you pull the trigger on that power supply wait a bit for some input from some of the other very knowledgeable guys here on the best quality PSU for the price.

If it's the power supply there is nothing to repair except replace it. See if you can borrow a good quality power supply from someone if possible to be sure. That XFX HD6870 you have needs good quality power fed to it.

Since the system is just restarting without any blue screen, I suspect either the power supply or the memory. Sine you already tested the memory, the most likely suspect would be the power supply. Can you swap out the power supply with another and see if the problem goes away or not...

You should post the specs of your Dads dell, CPU, Ram ddr?, number of hard drives. If you do not get a dell replacement mother board then you will probably need another case as well. I am not going to give suggestions as I am still on a 4 year old system myself and have not kept up on pc...

If the psu is on its way out, it cannot properly power up the hard drive. A bad power supply can cause all kinds of problems. The dell psu may be fine, no way to tell unless you swap it out for a known good one and see if the symptoms persist.

As Danny Bui posted, it could be a PSU issue. Has your Dad added components to the system? Is it the original Dell P.S.U.? Maybe try swapping out the P.S.U. If all else fails then it could be a mobo problem. You may be able to find one cheap on ebay for like $30 or $40. If not, then it may be...

I agree an HD 6850 would be better then what I suggested above. I thought they used more power but it appears not. If you can afford an HD 6850 go for it.

As long as it is a good quality 425w power supply, it should be able to handle an ATI 5770 or if you want to stay with nvidia a GTS 450. Either would be an upgrade from a 8800GT
