Final Cut Pro does not run on the x86 binary at all as of right now. As stated above, Apple will be releasing a Universal Binary version in April. Definitely don't go for the iMac G5 if you can wait a month or two. The new iMac will absolutely kill the G5 when the new version of FCP is released.
