Just a question for people who do have the swans, one of the things I like(d) about my klipsch speakers was the headphone jack on the side of the pod. Does the swan system have anything like this?

The one thing that I _REALLY_ want, that I doubt I will get, is a standalone server, that I can run on my hardware with out EA's permission, and with out having to talk to the internet to play. Thats what I would really like.

There isnt much to explore, and really, there is nothing to do but beat on other players. Other than that, it seems to be working fine. I have not come across any bugs or other issues as of yet.

Yes you can. You have to remember that IDE drives have master/slave settings. So if you have both drives set to master or slave, the machine will only detect one of them, and it will be flaky as hell. Check the jumpers on the back of your drives and set them accordingly.

Well, did you check the board for jumpers? Sometimes there are TINY jumpers on the bottom. Make sure they are all set the same. If that does not fly, you are SOL and need to call data recovery. Also, do you have some kind of Linux startup disk? Perhaps the MBR got messed up, and if you can...

What would I do? I wouldnt bother with the enclosure, try to find an exact drive and see if I could data off of it. If that didnt work, I would shrug and toss the old one away and use the new one. I dont have any data worth the fee for recovery.

In the end, its your call really. I would wager that if the drive is tripping the power supply when you plug it in, and external enclosure is going to do one of a few things, none of them good.

Be carefull with this, you may end up damaging your USB/FIrewire ports if the enclosure uses the USB/Firewire bus for power.

The powersupply is trying to save itself from the short (I am assuming) that the HDD is creating, so it goes into protection mode and shuts down before anything else gets a chance to power up.

Dont waste your time on a mobo. IIRC, compaq uses/used a propietary pin out on the PSU/MB. So, plugging in a standard power supply to the board will not allow it to power up either. You are gonna need a compaqified power supply to know for SURE. And that aint gonna be cheap. Shitcan the box.

If the drive is causing the PC not to boot, what you need to do is find the EXACT same model drive and swap out the brains. This is not surefire, and you could burn money doing this. The only surefire way to do it is to send it off to data recovery specialists. Even then, they might not get...

With out knowing alot about the brains on the HDD, I cant say for sure, but it sounds to me like there is either A) Some kind of short or B) The motor assembly is defective and is drawing too much power. In any event, you seem to already have diagnosed the problem as a bad hard drive...

A few things to try. I dont know much about those video cards, do they have a power connector on them? If so, did you connect it? Is the connection tight? Secondly, do you have the stock HSF? If the power connector is hard to get to due to the HSF, perhaps its pushing on it causing a loose...
