I'd only be happy doing this if I had some sort of shim to protect the core, problem is I can't see how it can be done with all those surface mount components.
If an app is hogging your system simply lower its priority. You never notice folding, seti, dnet etc, progs that always use 100% CPU, hogging your system simply because they run at the lowest priority.
Players who have a system with one of these configurations will notice performance gains in QUAKE 4 of anywhere from 25% - 87% depending on processor type.

Anyone with an X2 - download this patch and post some numbers please, it could well be enough to convince me...
fwiw AMD holds some patents on SMT, and I believe so does Sun and IBM.
AMD doesn't need SMT, there are too few 'bubbles' in the pipeline to fill and, even more so with PPC. Intel will eventually drop it when they move their entire lineup over to multi-core Pentium M designs. Dual core has...
From what I've learned AMD induce these shortages themselves, and not because they have problems with manufacturing capacity. The reason? Dumping by the big OEMs, AMD has been a victim of this practice for much of the K7 era and has become almost paranoid about it. If there is a lot of chips out...
If you're not prepared to use Linux then there is a hack which will enable WIn2k Pro / XP Pro to do RAID 5 just like the server versions. Google is your friend.
Larger hard drives have higher densities and are usually faster, i.e less head movement to pull the same amount of data off the platter. I say usually because it's GBs per platter that counts, e.g. a drive with 2*80 GB platters will generally perform better than one with with 4*40 GB platters...
This is not the opinion of a FB, but I honestly can't see any reason why someone would want to buy an Intel CPU at the moment. Certainly they have some interesting tech that they will hit back with in 2006, but that is the future and this is now.
All the old arguments about AMD's stability...
If true, that would explain a lot.
Given the reports of choppy DVD playback and other perfomance issues I'm still not convinced that the 360 has anywhere near the horsepower of even a mid-range PC. 3*3.2GHz cores sounds impressive but you have to remember these are PPC cores that have been...
"Any time the action gets heated in a large or complex-looking area, the game starts to spin down to a surprisingly low frame rate, regardless of whether you're playing in HD resolution or on a regular TV."

I think it should be stressed that virtually all consumer level RAID controllers are software based and offload all of their calculations onto the CPU. In other words, they're no better than software RAID, with the added disadvantage that if the controller or the motherboard that it's fixed to...
They probably both are. My point is that something must be seriously wrong if a CPU that consistantly wins ~90% of real world benches across all review sites can lose so badly in a canned one like this. Even more striking is the inexplicable difference between '04 and '05 when the basic...

Onboard RAID is a total waste of time. Almost all consumer level RAID controllers offload their striping/parity calculations onto the CPU anyway which begs the question, what the hell are they for anyway?
If you want RAID and you can't afford to shell out on a true hardware controller, then...
Just to chime in and repeat what others have said, the A8N-E is a solid, no-frills board with good overclocking options. Got mine up to 305 HTT before I hit my CPU's limit.
No firewire though, if this is a problem you might want to look elsewhere or drop a handful of notes on a separate PCI card.
I soundproofed my case by getting a bunch of cheap mouse pads, the foam ones with a stiff plastic covering (not fabric), then heating them with a hairdryer so that the plastic peels off easily. The glue stays on the foam so you can stick them straight to the inside of your case. For the fiddly...
I've been slapping copper grease on my CPUs for years now. Why? Because IMO it performs as good as anything else out there and the fact that I'm a cheap bastard. You can pick up a tub of the stuff from most automotive stores for next to nothing and it will last a lifetime.
But you have to be...
1. Have you ever had a hard drive fail on you?
Yes, too many times to mention
2. Have you ever had a USB Pen fail on you?
No but I only use them that often.
3. Have you ever had an external Hard Drive Fail on you?
Yes, at work a WD one that we used all the time died.
4. Have...

Now can someone tell me the revision of my CPU is? 'BW' isn't listed in Eclipse's FAQ and the revision box in cpu-z is grayed out.
And isn't Prime95 a bitch? I can easily do 305*9 = 2745 and play games and...
