The description for that pan is a lot more complicated than it should be, haha. I don't think I'll be able to buy a pump though...they did use that bubble maker and it lowered temps by 4C, I think I'll have two of those and see what happens.
So, I was looking at my old motherboard and I had...
I basically want to redo this project by pudget systems.
http://www.pugetsystems.com/submerged.php
The tank they use seems perfect for the job and I think I'll order that. I want to do this project as cheaply as possible so I need some advice. I think I can find mineral oil for about $40...
You sure?
What if I put everything in the main registry on the same partition and had some kind of DOS loader, then I could type in XP.exe or bootcd.exe or something like that? I can't code but that might work off a DOS boot drive with everything there.
I want to put every tool I have on a 4GB flash drive. So far I have my XP SP2 install, which I would like to be bootable for install like the CD, Ultimate Boot CD for tools, and maybe Hiren's boot cd as well. I also want to install Ubuntu or some form of linux onto the flash drive.
I was...
That works for you, why should anyone need to upgrade from a 3.1GHz C2D, that's a great chip.
But for people with outdated tech, planning an upgrade, I think Q6600 is the way to go, I'm getting one to replace my Opty 144 soon.
I ran diskcleanup (Vista), and while cleaning some windows error logs, it started deleting all the files under users, including the desktop and my personal files. My music, installation files, movies, data, everything. I just lost 30GB of data and didn't notice until the next song on my...
Some people are so lazy.
If you want to know the difference between a Core 2 at 2.4GHz, and a Core 2 at 3GHz then look a goddamn review of the E6850 and the E6600.
Both boards are great, and overclocking shouldn't be an issue unless you're using an E6550, in which case the DS3R is slightly better. The Abit has firewire, while the Asus will have better support, and BIOS updates will come regularly and bring new features. I think the Asus is cheaper so...
First of all, this confirms nothing, who knows, maybe G0s can hit 4GHz on water, we know nothing until we see it.
And second, he's using water cooling, 3.5GHz really isn't that great.
At this point, heat becomes an issue long before the individual chip's potential is reached, that's why, with good air cooling, Q6600s go about as high as QX6800, 3-3.4GHz.
Wait until the price drops on the 22nd. You can get a the Q6600 for $266 and a good P35 board like the GA-P35-DS3R for $130.
$100 less and you get a better board.
Thanks for your help, I'll start work on the polycarbonate case soon then, once I do the motherboard housing, I'll do a separate case for the PSU and drives, then attach them.
I have an 80 with a built in speed controller so that will go on top, thanks for the advice.
If I understood that, only one exhaust fan? But three intake fans? That would be one ducted to the CPU, one further left for the graphics, and one on top? I think it works with the top being exhaust, for the graphics...I'll consider it though.
I might just use wood, I know it doesn't look...
I want to make a case out of polycarbonate (forget the thread title) that will only house the motherboard, I'm going for a ghetto mod look anyways so I'm thinking a stand, with the PSU on a shelf, the actual case on a shelf, and the hard drive and DVD drive on shelves above that, suspended by...
You shouldn't have polished it, that will only hurt your temps. And why would it need to dry? All you have to do is sand, then wash it with alcohol, no water involved.
I don't get it, why would you try to unlid the cpu is your temps were fine? 51C isn't holding you back at all.
I hope you get a shitty OCer for a replacement.
A google search of "T2080" (not hard to do yourself, by the way) says it's a 1.73GHz Core with 1MB of cache on socket 478.
If you want to get an upgrade, look at a Core 2 based proc at the same FSB,
Like this http://www.ewiz.com/detail.php?name=T2350.
Really, that took me about 30 seconds to...
Memory clocks must be the same for 2D and 3D, if you set them at different speeds they will default to 3D speeds. The OPs memory is NOT at 500MHz, even if he thinks it is.
The GTS 320 proved that 320MB isn't enough for higher resolutions anymore and that was on an 8800GTS. The 2900XT is a little faster than that so there's a good chance that going over 512MB will make a big difference.
It's built on a damn 130nm process, if they switched to a 65mn process, took out the ram, and simplified the PCB into a shorter, half-height PCB that can sell for $50 than this might catch on.
They'll be 65nm, if not 55nm, and hopefully will scale back in power. I remember an old article on anandtech where both ATi and nVidia admitted that they fought for every bit of performance this generation and sacrificed efficiency, and that they would fix this next time, I'm not sure if it's...
That's what you would think but it's really not true, Intel chips usually sell around the MSRP, the max above that being $50. AMD chips sometimes sell below MSRP so we know it doesn't work like that for retailers.
It sounds like either your motherboard or your ram is holding you back. Lower your ram divider then try again, if you still can't raise it then give the northbridge one more step in voltage.
Assuming the demo was built on the 65nm process than it should be viable on 45. The cores are crippled so I'm wondering if they'll one or two normal CPU cores like they did for cell, that could make it X86 (it'd work a lot like fusion then).
I still don't get why it's 80 cores...
Quad core all the way, I think the benefits are great until you hit 8 cores. This will give me render times almost twice as fast as with the E6850 in programs like 3DStudio and Terragen. If you compare them, there's a chance you lose about 10% on performance, there's also a change you'll...
