If you search on my username, you'll find a load of threads here on the Acer 2216, which I have, and I like a lot.
Costco sells the Acer (check your local store) and no-one beats their return policy
The 1680x1050 has to be set up as a custom resolution. Good news is you can do that with Nvidia cards as follows:
Control Panel>Display>Settings>Advanced>7900 tab>Screen Resolutions and Refresh Rates>Add button>(enter 1680 1250 32bit 60 hz)
Done
It is normal for Acers to sometimes show...
I have the Acer AL2216wbd and I'm very happy with it. Cost $399 then, now $329 on Newegg.
There are lots of recent discussions on this monitor and others for you to research on this forum.
Wait! It depends what you play. You might be CPU limited if fps is only just acceptable at 1280x1024. The 6600GT isnt a bad card. Some games are very demanding on CPU (and even RAM)
I have a 6800nu (128Mb RAM) and it works great with IL2FB/Pacific Fighters in 1680x1050. It also works great...
There has also been some debate about whether these 22" panels are TN or P-MVA. I have 2 dead pixels on my Acer 22" and they are white (ie TN) not black (would be P-MVA)
Hope that settles it :D
I have an Acer 22"and after months of research on what to get, I went for it and I'm very pleased with it
I did a side by side review against the westinghouse 22"

...but the behardware.com review pretty much says it all...
Great review. I'm glad I bought one. I liked the conclusion:
"Conclusion: except for a few users that can´t imagine buying a product that isn´t the newest technology, you would be crazy to spend more money in a smaller monitor than this Acer AL2216W. If you aren´t addicted to your CRT...
A SIPS 22" would be a hot item, but based on the a number of recent discussions on this forum a TN seems to have the advantage over the -VA. I have a 22" TN and no way would I replace it with a -VA of any size.
Yes please. The test gradients were very useful inshowing the up/down brightness change which I hadnt noticed in normal use. Blacks still look black enough for me tho'
I'm being constantly surprised by comments about how bad TN lcds are (allegedly). Apparently TNs suffer from atrocious viewing angles, excessive backlight bleed, poor colors, (16.2M not 16.7M) and are often derided as bargain basement in terms of value
I bought a TN ( Acer 2216) 2 months ago...
I want commenting, I was just asking the question. No-one disputes that $600 20" panels like the NEC have better performance than $300 22" panels by Acer. But if there werent significant differences between the 20" Dell IPS and the 20" NEC SIPS you wouldnt have spent double the money on one...
If VA panels have these sort of problems, why do the TN panels come in for so much abuse?
I bought an Acer 2216 as my first lcd after 8 years with a IIyama 19" CRT (great monitor). No way I'd go back. But every time someone asks how it is and I tell them the thread is filled with others going...
The Acer tilts but doesnt pivot. Number of pixels are the same as the Dell. Dell 2007s are not always SIPS -the panels vary. All panel technologies have issues - only the AS-SIPS (the NEC 20" ) seems to meet unanimous acclaim - but for $600 it should.
I have a 2216 and I'm very happy with...
Sounds like it was running on VGA not DVI if the text was big and grainy. By the way it does tilt (one of the Newegg reviewers missed that as well). The buttons are small bars under the logo and work and look just fine for me. The bleeding on all four corners is news to me too. Perhaps they had...
Please state whether you own one of the current generation 22"'s,or have bought , evaluated, and returned one. Old TNs were allegedly crap. But these arent.
Yes, if you are a gamer remember that a 24" running 1920x1200 has 31% more pixels than a 22" running 1680x1050. IF your video card is the limiting factor in your rig, (and that would depend on the game) then your FPS would be that much slower on a 24 than on a 22.
I have a 6800 and an Opteron...
I never bothered installing the Acer drivers. It works great without them. I'm using the Nvidia 6800 with 84.21 drivers. The monitor shows up as a 60Hz Plug and Play monitor under 'Adapters'
Does anyone know if you get a performance enhancement using the monitor driver?
I bought a Acer 2216 and I'm perfectly happy with the color balance when sitting in front of it. I wouldnt recommend one of these TNs for wall mounting as the off axis color balance and brightness does change a lot if you move well off axis. For gaming its great, as there is no ghosting and no...
Bullshit!
1) I've had mine sitting on my desk for over a month and it sits there solid as a rock. What on earth do people DO with these monitors apart from put them on A DESK...
2) The colors were great out of the box. I think after tweaking I ended up with 45 45 46 for the colors instead...
I have the Acer 22"
Yes its a TN and yes I can see the subtle change in brightness as I change viewing angle up and down. Yes it goes really dark if I look up at it from below my desk.
But if I sit in front of it its a great gaming panel, and it cost me only $399 (some got it for $349) and...
