I'd wait till end of January and see if the r600 is better, and if nothing else, the 8800 should drop down in price at that time, then you can use the money you saved for something else!
i don't know about dx10 ONLY games, but for the upcomming year, crysis, age of conan, and a few others should be both dx10 and dx9, needless to say the 10 versions will make 9 look like caveman drawings

64 would be good for me, but im thinking of my pops with his kajillion old peripherals that prob wont work with 64bit windows xp or vista

get an e6300 for around 170~ at clubit or newegg(i think its 10 bucks more there)
i was pretty sure i was reading that its useless in the 32bit version of xp pro, but i might be wrong, in anycase, do you really need 4 gigs? 2 should suffice
did you skimp out on the vid card in hopes of upgrading to r600? save your money then
