I have a GT630 with the same cooler as almalino, and it really is a pretty big chunk of aluminum. the card itself is tiny (it's an PCI-e 8X card, so half length connector), and it's rated at only 25w, so i'm guessing if you could find something similar, and a good PCI-e riser, you could even...
If you're going with a discrete GPU, you're better off with a x4 760k then the A10, cheaper, and you wont be paying for a GPU bit you wont be using.
And actually, you might want to consider going for a haswell i3 instead of the AMD chip, i cant speak for all cases, but even a lowly haswell...
I just found a better plan:
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/mini-itx-gaming-radeon-hd-7750,3369.html
Mostly this, but with a different mobo, no 3.5" hdd or optical drive, and a slower GPU. It'll be smaller then the BT-02 based build.
Hi guys
I'm contemplating a cheap but small linux box, with just one main purpose (run kerbal space program), which means some amount of CPU grunt (KSP is single threaded, so i'm going for a cheapo dualcore haswell), and a half-decent video card.
So my proposed specs would be:
Intel...
the main question is, what do you want to do on the go?
I have a 7" android tab, and i only use it as a big screen video player on the go. Anything bigger would be seriously uncomfortable to hold in public transport. Typing also isnt exactly stellar on a touch-screen. I am thinking of doing...
The specs on the cowon looks impressive, but at the price of a 8gb D3, i am only 40 euros (just over 10%) away from a galaxy tab wifi, which i am also cautiously considering, it would be far superior for video purposes, and also be usefull at home
Hi guys,
Yesterday my ipod touch once again proved to me that trying to use one of those damned i-devices without itunes is asking for trouble, and given that i run linux (and hate itunes with a passion), managing my ipod is a huge chore, On top of that, 8 gigs is becomming a bit cramped...
yeah, install eclipse and the android SDK, do the hello world example and try to understand what is going on with activities and such, next, start screwing around with different layouts and buttons and such to make a simple app
methinks he is just confusing raid 1 and 0, i did too, untill i read the following line somewhere:
"The 0 in Raid 0 stands for the amount of data you have left when one drive dies"
just have to add burnout paradise to my recommendations
Picked it up for $13 on friday and just spent my whole sunday playing it (only stopping to eat/ watch formula 1)
awesome racing/crashing fun
Project Gotham Racing 3 + 4
Forza 3
Fable 2 (despite everyone being once again let down by molyneuxs hype, it is good)
Star wars TFU
Ninja Gaiden II (this is hard)
and on XBLA, pick up Geometry wars, it will blow your mind
Ahem *points at start of thread*
anyway, i just picked up burnout paradise for 12 bucks, i really enjoyed burnout 3 on the xbox, and this is getting rave reviews too..
I tried system restore several times, up to a few months back, doesnt do anything.
I'll see about reinstalling anyway, this machine is pretty damn hosed
There is a windows sticker on there, and the discs might be lost (and im under the impression that this license key would need a PB specific disc to work)
So if possible, i would like to solve this without a reinstall
Hi guys, got a puzzle for you.
My aunts system is hosed, it wont boot into windows, somwhere on the "welcome" screen it just hangs, same thing in safe mode. However, if i select debug mode in the F8 menu, it just starts up.
I've already done a small survey of the registry and tried running...
Keep in mind though that for in-game performance, SSD's are pretty much pointless, they just speed up load-times. If it is raw-FPS you are after, you can do much better then spending 100 bucks on a small(ish) SSD
Also keep in mind that with current game installs becoming rather large, any...
my 3 year old MSI laptop has a exprescard 54 slot, dont use it, dont particularly care either...
I guess i might use a slot like that for a *GOOD* SSD or a sound card, but i dont really have the need for it..
The file server is on 24/7 i assume, so you would want the lowest power usage there, so the 250. However, in the HTPC you want the lowest noise, so once again the 250
I'd go for the 250 in the HTPC, put the 7750 on file server duty, and underclock/volt the fuck out of it, file serving duties...
most screens look like ass when running non-native
i run my second xbox on my old 19" LCD at 1440*900 using my vga cable, looks very good, although there are minute black bars at top and bottom due to the screen being 16*10 vs 16*9 for what the xbox actually renders
highly recommended
might i suggest giving the kids accounts without sudo priviledges? Sure they will pester you when they need some new software, but after the first week that should stabilize, and will stop them from borking up the system, they worst they will be able to do is nuke their own homedir.
As for...
i interpreted that as it wont support the NEWER quad cores. I dont really know that much about the 680i chipset, but it has to be VERY old to not support a Q6600, he does have a e6750 after all
I'd recommend the Asus O!play network streamer, i bought mine for 100 euros, and it streams just about everything, codec support is way beyond the xbox 360. On top of that you dont need the whole windows media extender hoopla, just about any samba share (windows network shared folder, or linux...
if you just want more horsepower, you are probably better of (money/performance wise) getting a socket 775 quad core for your old mobo, perhaps a used Q6600 or something
that will cost a lot less then mobo/6-core
dont get me wrong, i'd get a hexa-core too, but if money is a real problem...
true, a decent 500 watter like that antec should do fine for any non-sli non-mega-gpu machine (hell, i run a GTX260 on a 500 watter, just fine, i ran 6800GT sli on the same psu)
Also, the 720 is gonna be very hard to find, and generally a bad deal due to that. As for the quad/hex core thing...
i dont really need more, but i want more. I dont want to invest in anything on sokcet 775 anymore, it is old hat, and no new cpu's will be available for it. On Amd's current platform i would get a low power quad, with the possibility of getting a low power six-core somewhere down the line. Note...
i do, my comment is more about amd mitx boards in general, the only board i've been able to find here in holland which will take regular ddr2 only has a single dimm slot.... ideally i would want two dimm slots. (and has an nvidia chipset, which i'm not so sure about these days anymore, i'd...
you know, i would consider going core i3, if only it used DDR2 ram. I am considering replacing my main machine with a mini-itx box (mainly just for kicks, like everything i do with computers these days), so that means i'll have 4gb of regular DDR2 to re-use. Going i3/i5 means ill need to spend...
bah, compared to the netherlands the US is amd-itx heaven...
all i want is an am2 board with 2 normal dimm slots, but apperently that is a strange wish.. Hell, in the US i could pick up a zotac board with two dimm slots and a geforce 6100 chip for 50 dollars... if only newegg shipped...
L3 is clocked with the northbridge on phenoms, so other then the small extra thermal load that l3 cache does not hamper the OC-ability of a phenom chip. I did find however that clocking the northbridge up does cause some nice performance gains, since L3 also speeds up.
Still the athlon will...
I'm pretty much in the same boat, with the small provision that i only run linux these days on my main rig, so once i get a X25-V, it will house all of my linux system, expect for data storage (have an old 500gb samsung for that, and off course the 3,5 TB fileserver)
Hopefully i'll get one for...
my personal opinion is that SFF shouldnt include m-ATX anyway, some desktop cases like the antec nsk 1480 are very nice and small cases, but for me SFF is all about mini-itx and shuttle, although i hate those cube-y shuttle boxes.
my m-itx server is only 4 inches high, and less then nine wide...
If i ever end up finding a suitable AMD mini-itx board, this case will probably house my main rig, i'm thinking low power AMD quad core, 4gb of ram, an SSD for boot, a smallish hdd (250-320 gb) for local file storage (rest goes on the server anyway)
if only i could find a good amd board, the...
yup, the 250 is more then enough
and while the x3 toliman might look nice, it actually isnt that good of a chip, it is an old 65nm phenom I, with a full quad-core die, so it will suck about twice as much power as the x2 250.
And as Dany says, the 250 will be more then enough for your usage. If...
my GFs PII 940 has some issues running four dimms at full speed too. It has 1066 mhz ddr2, but running at that speed with 4x2gb isnt quite stable. dropping it back to 800 mhz is rocksteady.
The way i see it, either drop the speed down (1066 or so), or spend a lot of time tweaking to get it...
