Hi there, Peeps! I was just wondering... recently on some new Asus and Asrock boards, I've seen the VIA VT1708S audio codec is implemented. It's been a long time since I've seen VIA audio onboard, and was wondering what is the word on it; Any good?
Trouble on the Core i7 horizon? If it's true, AMD may have received an early Christmas present. Now, everyone has to wait and see what Phenom II (DDR2 and then DDR3) has to offer price vs. performance-wise. It'll be interesting how everything plays out in the coming month.
Nordic Hardware is reporting that the next offering from ATI will be a half-node shrink at 40nm, code named "little Dragon". If you'll remember, the HD2900XT was code named "Dragon's Head", which in Chinese means tap/faucett... perhaps a foreshadowing of the power leakage it was prone to. Well...
There is a blurb over at Tweaktown that says abit is almost on its last legs this time. It'd be the end of a classic brand, but perhaps it's time for them to follow Iwill and Epox into that long, dark night. What do you guys think, is abit even worth saving these days...
Abit is listing their A-S78H as discontinued just a month or two after 'introducing' it. WTF???

So suggests TGDaily. Take it with a huge grain of salt, folks. But still it's a pleasant fantasy-land read. What do you guys think; could it happen, and what impact might it have on the market if it did?

Nvidia and Intel are getting froggy again. What do you guys think, is it worth the fight? I mean, if Nvidia licensed SLI for Intel chipsets, wouldn't it make you more interested in buying an Nvidia graphics card? It would me. Which garners them more money anyway, an Nvidia Chipset or an Nvidia...
Hmmm, sounds interesting. Wish they wouldn't waffle with the specs, though, and just come out and tell us which codec and LAN are being used. Take a look.

OCTeamDenmark seems to think that the Asus P5E64 WS Evolution is an OC monster. Kind of hard to argue when the damn thing does a 595 FSB! (x7 multi for 4.165 GHz)

Hot off the presses! For those of you looking to blend Phenom and SLI, Asus finally has you covered. Come on Dan, get us a review of this one and quick! ;)

An interesting read over at Techpowerup! They claim that Nvidia is playing around with the clocks i.e. driver reporting one thing while the Rivatuner reporting another, with the card overclocking itself in sync with the PCIE bus frequency. What do you guys think? Should Nvidia clue consumers and...
Just a quick query: which single-player level in COD4 do you consider the most demanding? I know [H] uses 'The Bog' in its reviews, but I'd have to vote for 'All Gillied Up'. What do you guys think?
There is an article over at Fudzilla listing some features of the soon to be released SB700 family. Let's all hope it's an improvement, because SB600 is a major PIA at times. Hmm... Phenom B3 and SB700? Wonder what, if any, performance improvements we'll see.
Fudzilla, and supporting features...
Vvikoo has a card that should sell well with our girlfriends and wives... a pink 8800GT 1GB! Sporting a fat Zalman cooler as well.

OK, I'm not really into the Nvidia cards, but this is an interesting looking card: it's from Zotac, and has an orange PCB. It's been a while since I've seen an orange PCB and thought some of you might be interested.

Tech Report is reporting a rumor that Intel's Yorkfield quad core has an erratum that may delay launch. Let's hope it's full of shite! Your thoughts?

Well, I took the dive and got a Gigabyte GA-MA790FX-DQ6 and paired it with a 5000+ Black Edition. The board is a first class effort in terms of layout and quality of components... nice to see one of the first tier manufacturers didn't half-ass an AMD board (for a change!). The copper heatsinks...
OK Guys, I'm looking to set up an AMD system and am going the 790FX route. I was wondering if any [H] Forum members have got a 790FX board, and if so, are there any show stopping niggles I should know about before plunking down the cash? Where I live, the Gigabyte GA-MA790FX-DQ6 is immediately...
In case you're interested, both Gigabyte and Asus have announced their AMD 790FX boards. Both are good looking boards with clean layouts. Though I like the sexy black of the Asus, they've been so spotty the last year I'm looking closer at the Gigabyte board.
The Asus has one Marvel PCIE LAN...
Fudzilla is claiming a mid-October release for the RD790. If there is confirmation on that, I'm going to skip the X38 and give AMD a whirl for the first time in a year!

In case you're not acquainted with me, I live in China. Today I got a call from my procurer of hardware. For over a month I've been in his face every few days about the Abit IX38 QuadGT (DDR2). Well, today he calls to tell me that the board will be available from October 10th. Great if it's...
AMD Tri-Core?!? So whispers TheInq, at any rate. If one follows their thinking, it does present some food for thought, and if that reasoning proves true, it could certainly help dig AMD out of its hole. What do you think; AMD for the Tri-fecta? :confused...
OK, the 7.9 Cats are out of the bag, so let's get the ball rolling. First up, the new registration menu. Why doesn't it include registration for any of the newer generation cards? What's up with that?
I'm eyeing that IX38 Quad GT: DDR2, Digital PWM, easily removed/modular heatsinks this time, and the bling-bling blue backlights are back!
"Blue bottoms... blue bottoms....
"Talk about bling-bling back,
"My GT's got 'em!" :D

OK, with just a few days to go before the next round of 'launch fun' begins, I'm interested in hearing which, if either, of the two chipsets you're interested waiting for and why.
OK, in the never say die spirit, Diamond is putting out a workstation-class derivative of the 2900XT with, hold onto your hats, 2 Gigs of GDDR4! It'll certainly put the 'Is more VRAM helpful' question to rest for a year or two, and the card looks smoking. Initial MSRP is your first two children...
Perhaps you caught this already, but Hexus has video of a black aluminum Coolermaster Cosmos. Anybody else waiting for this particular case?

Saw this over at Vr-Zone. Up till recently they've been pretty staid, but it seems...
"Come here clock'a....and dig this crazy scene
It's not too fancy....but its line is pretty clean
It ain't no drag.
Foxy's got a brand new bag "
OK, sorry for ripping off James Brown, and there aren't...
DFI's press page on their P35 releases. Check out the cooling solution: now that is a path all the greener for want of wear! And speaking of green... either they are endorsing Nvidia's SLI technology or they are naming this board Shrek 4: OC Some More...
Or so says Gizmodo. It'd be great if it were true! Lots of pics.

And they liked it. Not surprising, as it's a great board. Have a look if you're interested. As an aside, the IP35 Pro comes Pepsi-approved! ;)
http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/mainboards/display/abit-ip35-pro.html
Or so say TheInq and Microsoft. Well, Brent... back to the grindstone! "Do you believe in ma-gic..." Bwah-ha-ha-ha-haaaaaaaaa...! OK, sorry, that's just a joke. But admit it, it was kinda funny. :D

Over at Hardwarezone. The heatsinks are positively... staid compared to their P35 highrise! Have a look, though I'm waiting to see Abit and DFI's offerings.

Hey there, [H]'ers! This is a question for anyone who has previously or is currently using the Zalman 600 watt PSU. I'd like your observations about quality, reliability, and noise. My choices for quality parts are limited where I live, and the Zalman recently came into stock at a good price...

The [H] video card forum is going to get mighty hot, just in time to counter the cold! :p
Hello [H]'ers! Here's the thing, I'm looking to upgrade my monitor from a Samsung SyncMaster 940BW 19" Widescreen w/ native resolution of 1440x900, to something in the 1680x1050 range. Now I currently have a 2900XT (as if we all didn't know that) but it's a changeable market, and if/when prices...
