So, thinking it might be time to swap out my aging nVidia 7600 GT for something a little more modern. That said, I don't have much time for gaming anymore (and when I do, it's older RPGs), so high-end really doesn't matter to me.
This is what I'm looking for a recommendation on:
HDMI...
Wow, I may be interested in this puppy. How's the battery life in it? And since you didn't list it, I'm assuming it's not in there, but does it have built in wireless? Also, what's the native resolution of the screen?
So, long story short, looks like my SFF will be moving from easy wired access, to wireless being a whole heck of a lot easier. So, given that, and some quick research showing that a PCI card would be better, resource-wise, than a USB stick, I was wondering if there were any recommendations...
Well, definitely a nice match to what's already on the case, that's for sure. I'll have to see if I can find one of those covers if I ever decide I need/want more cooling.
Well, that case certainly looks familiar to me! How did you get the mesh cover that matches the front of the case? I'm assuming those are either simple intake fans or a HD cooler behind there?
Hey all. Wanted to see if anyone has seen this problem before. On my MX6, the front audio ports don't seem to be working. They were a little flaky when I first built the machine, but now they don't work at all. Of course, I guess it could be the mobo, but the backplate sound works fine. I...
Just a quick update. Ran OCCT last night. First pass locked in 10 mins for some reason (but also had some other utils running). Rebooted, ran it for half hour, passed just fine. Ran Memtest86+ for 4 passes, no errors.
Played some CoH today, CoreTemp reported max temps of 40C, generally...
So, did you just turn off the warning in the BIOS, then? On the Opty HSF (not sure if I really need to change out), did you mean to say without modification?
Ok, gang, methinks I need some help. Today, I was playing some CoH at lunch, and suddenly had a siren-like beep-code coming from my compy. Did some digging around online, and it seems that that is a temp or voltage warning.
Now, I know this board can't read the temp correctly on the...
On the BIOS front, I've only seen one out there for the board, and that's all the flash utility sees as well.
I'm seeing similar temps as you, both from the Abit utility and a thermistor stuck in the fins of the HSF. With Coretemp, I'm seeing temps of around 17-20 C at idle on each core, and...
Hey, tried a search, and nothing came up. I realize the Microfly is made of thinner metal, and the windows don't help w/ noise suppression much either. Any which way, has anyone tried some noise dampening efforts w/ the hard drive? Rubber gaskets/washers between the HD and the cage, or the...
D'oh! Was about to dink around in the Bios, and then realized Cool 'n Quiet was enabled w/ that CPU ID run. Turned that off, and here's what I've got:
Should be much more pleasing to the [H] eyes. Also of note, RAM speed jumps from 200 to 350 w/ Cool 'n Quiet disabled. I'm guessing that...
Any more news on this front? The Abit software is reporting my X2 4000+ Brisbane (stock cooler) as hitting around 60 C after playing some CoH. Going to install CoreTemp and see what that reports.
Heh, thanks everyone. Yeah, it is quite an upgrade. Can't wait to get into CoH with it! Currently got the rest of the HD formatting (allocated 20 gig for windows, and the remainder is formatting now). Then comes the fun of installing all of the apps, and getting all the files copied over.
And the SFF build is underway! Naming it the Batcomputer 3 as it's the 3rd AMD iteration I've built now - Slot A to Socket A to AM2. Anyways, these are the build components:
- Abit NF-M2 nView
- Ultra Microfly MX6 w/ 600w PSU
- Athlon X2 4000+ w/ stock HSF
- 1 GB (512 X2) Corsair PC800...
Alrighty, had the motherboard show up this morning, and the case & psu showed up this afternoon. In looking at the design, I'm thankful for the removable mobo tray. Otherwise, it'd be a bear to try and get expansion cards plugged in under the PSU!
Rest of the parts should be here tomorrow...
Curses, UPS, curses! I checked the tracking for the SFF case after lunch, and it's claiming that no one was there to sign for it. What? I'm working from home - by the front window! Never saw a brown truck go by. Grrr.
Woo-hoo! Based on the estimated delivery dates, looks like I should have all the parts by the weekend. Only thing that isn't for certain is the case, UPS only has the billing info so far. And I realized one more decision I need to make - use the on-board audio, or move my old Soundblaster...
Well, from buy.com. They listed it as in-stock, so we'll see if they pull through. If they managed to screw up, then I'll be falling back on the Asus board for my backup.
Ok, just finished up my order w/ the Egg. And the final build is (drum roll please):
- Ultra Micro Fly MX 6
- Abit NF-M2 nView
- Athlon 64 X2 4000+ Brisbane
- Corsair DDR800 (2x512)
- XFX GeForce 7600GT
- Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3320620AS 320GB
- Samsung SATA DVD +-R
-...
Hmm, I thought I read something that it wasn't. No matter, I just bought XP Pro w/ a free upgrade coupon thing-a-ma-jig to Vista. So, I should be all set.
Ok, so I ordered the case (MX6) yesterday, and the mobo (Abit NF-M2 nView) today. Made a couple of changes to my plan, and here's what's left:
- Athlon 64 X2 4000+ Brisbane ($140) (retail pkg)
- Corsair XMS2 1 gig (2x512) ($107)
- Seagate SATA HD ($90)
- Samsung SATA DVD+-R ($42)
- XP Pro...
Yeah, I just wanted to make sure that XP Home would recognize both cores. Seems to be some conflicting info out there.
Vista, I'm not so sure about just yet. If nothing else, CoH isn't officially supported on it, so that gives me some pause.
