Several days ago, the light style/theme sporadically stopped working around the forum if one isn't logged in.
Some subforums apply it, some do not; I haven't checked all of them (I can make a list, if that helps you), but for example, the front page is dark, while this Help & Feedback subforum...
The price would have been great at 200€. Unfortunately, it's 280-320€ ($310-$350), and that's seriously way, waaaay too much. I'm gonna have to wait for a year until prices drop down to a reasonable amount.
What happened to software support? Almost every software package for my motherboard (Z87 Pro) is well over a year old. Basically nothing was released in 2014. Just some BIOS updates.
OK, so there's BIOS 2005, with "improve system performance".
What does it mean? Likewise for 1802 and "improve system stability".
I'm still on 1602 (and I'm still getting drive spinup on shutdown + occasional BSOD on shutdown). Should I update?
I came home to a BSOD that happened on shutdown (left early in the morning in a hurry, so I didn't check). It happens about once per week.
Have the new Intel RSTs or the new BIOSes fixed that?
Speaking of RST, doesn't one of the newer versions include a new BIOS block, and if it does, when can...
1707...? Ugh. You know, ten years ago we'd get giant changelogs for BIOS updates... You could easily see exactly what's changed and if you want to flash or not. But now - if you don't know what's new, then it's playing lottery (and it gets even worse, because a BIOS these days has a billion...
Intel RST 12.9 is out (and has actually been out for two weeks). Haven't yet tried it, but I will later. I wonder if it'll solve the occasional BSOD-on-shutdown issue. Spinup-on-shutdown is something that will probably get fixed after my drives die :/
If I uninstall RST, what's going to happen? I know I had a functional mirror after a fresh Windows install, but I'd really like to be able to set caching options, and I think the SSD also wouldn't mind having a fresh RST driver.
In the last 13 years, since assembling my first array, I've had two occasions where RAID-1 saved my ass. One drive goes, the data stays intact. I know it's not backup, but it's a major difference between "well, your last backup was six hours ago and you also didn't commit to source control...
Hm... That's similar, although PeRRo_RoJo has problems with two arrays. With only one array, he doesn't have the spinup problem :/ Also, he's on 8.1.
I'll ping Intel with that info. Maybe it's the same problem, maybe it's not... Thanks!
Raja... I wrote about my RAID-ed hard drives spinning down-up-down on shutdown.
Intel is telling me that my mobo is faulty and that I'm the only one in the world with that problem.
Asus is telling me that Intel's controller is faulty and that I'm the only one in the world with that problem...
No idea. Never checked the disc :)
What I do know is that I'm getting a bugcheck 0x141 VIDEO_ENGINE_TIMEOUT_DETECTED, which has a whopping 10 hits on Google. It's not even listed as a valid kernel bugcheck on Microsoft's site. As you can imagine, trying to fix an error that only a couple more...
The 7790 had a "performance driver" half a year ago, before there was official support in 13.9 for the card.
This version isn't available on AMD's site any more during the regular download process. It was there a month ago, and you could specifically select the 7790 instead of "HD 7xxx...
Ugh... I had kernel crashes with 13.9 (minidump written in LiveKernelReports\WATCHDOG, instead of its usual place) and had to revert to the "7790 performance driver". That one sometimes gives me a BSOD or a non-minidump crash on shutdown.
I was hoping for 13.11 to finally be stable, but your...
You're on Windows 7, right? 0x117 in 7 is the same thing as 0x141 on 8. Here's Microsoft's tech paper about TDR. Maybe something will help you... I have tweaked some BIOS stuff for PCI Express regarding power management and disabled ultra-low power state (now ZeroCore) for my card - it survived...
Well, on XP I didn't even have RST. It was called differently. So I haven't had 12.x at all - and this is a new OS, new chipset, new SSD, lots of new stuff. Maybe I'll try it, but I should first whip out my external and do a full backup.
Yeah, I did the powercfg (and dumppo) stuff.
Can't. I have a RAID-1 array and the system drive is an SSD. For both those reasons, I'm wary of downgrading RST to such an old version.
I did. Hibernation, hybrid boot, all that stuff is removed.
If you're certain it's a RST issue, and not something related to motherboard power settings...
Whoa, whoa... Why wasn't I aware of the LiveKernelReports folder inside the Windows folder???
It seems to store dumps even when there's no BSOD!!! I have 15 of them and of the 3 I analyzed...

And I had another freeze a few minutes ago :) Left the computer idling for about 45 minutes, came back, frozen as usual. Replugged the KB and mouse and like you said, no power is being delivered. But I guess that's normal - I mean, the system is frozen solid and the USB controller misbehaves...
This time Windows Updates managed to install. I skipped all the security updates and just installed the core ones.
Chrome is at v31, which is supposed to fix all freezes related to Realtek drivers.
As far as software goes, this is all I can do and I've eliminated all possible software issues...
There's a setting called "enable C-states" (or something like that) in the BIOS, and I turned that off.
Multicore enhance is enabled, and freezing happened at 1333 as well.
I'll try disabling enhance and EIST later today... Let's see how that goes.
All voltages are at auto. I have no idea what 90% of the BIOS options are for, so I'm not touching them :D When did computers and BIOSes become this complex?
C-states are off. The PSU is a brand new Seasonic Platinum 660W, and to my best of knowledge, it's fine for Haswell - especially since...
Precisely - I have no idea what's causing it. Every time I think it's something, it turns out that it's not. In the beginning I was absolutely sure it was Chrome (there are many bug reports and a huge support thread on the issue of Chrome hard-freezing the computer), but then it froze without...
memtest86 went fine, OCCT went fine, gaming went fine... In fact, I don't think I've had a freeze when the computer was under heavy load. I'd need unstress tests :D
This is the memory (XMP is enabled):

I jinxed it.
After about 13 hours on Sunday, 5 hours on Monday, 5 hours on Tuesday and 3 hours today, it froze again. Went to have dinner, came back, frozen.
Which of the voltages can I boost a bit?
Is it known which Windows Update installs the Asus stuff? I'm not too keen on installing any updates, but if I try again, I'd like to know which one to avoid.
Still haven't had a freeze after getting rid of AI Suite and assorted services. If I don't get one by the end of this week, I'll finally...
It's a HDD RAID array... My boot drive is an SSD. I don't know why it would write anything to the HDDs :/ And I think I have disabled everything "fast" in BIOS. I'll check when I get home.
I need IRST for the RAID, though. It's just weird that IRST on my old computer never did that.
I already had the newest AI Suite.
Honestly, I thought it was just a monitor that has a couple of features which interact with the BIOS if you tell them to. Had no idea that AIS would actually change settings on its own. Seemed like a simple front-end. Then again, I should have suspected that...
After uninstalling AI Suite, I haven't had a single freeze yet. Computer ran fine for about 13 hours yesterday. Was that really it...?
Edit: I'm still annoyed by my hard drives spinning up after shutdown. Anyone has an idea how to fix that? It's like this: shutdown - drives spin down - monitor...
Nope.
Spent three hours playing a game, exited, clicked around on the web... Freeze.
I'm uninstalling AI Suite. Let's see if that helps. If it doesn't, I have no more solid ideas left. Edit: Well, apart from maybe slightly increasing the voltage on something - but damned if I know what. Ideas...
I do use it, because of Fan Expert... Don't find any other use for it otherwise. If I get another freeze, AI Suite is going away and I'll make do with BIOS fan settings.
Before setting all the SATA ports to hot-plug and setting Windows to "high performance", I had iastor events about issuing...
After my computer ran fine for 6 hours yesterday and 4 hours today (and that was after I put all the SATA ports to hot-plug and enabled high performance in Windows power management), II had another freeze twenty minutes ago.
I took the cat for a vaccination, came back, the monitor was in...
