The only thing I can think, is that the SCSI drive (it was connected to a 29160N, running XP Pro), wasn't too happy about being swapped over to a new system, but saying that, the controller has built-in SCSI BIOS and it does boot, but crashes at the same GUI loading that the SATA drive does...

Yeah, I have tried swapping every component in the system, PSU, Memory, Motherboard, CPU, HD, CD, Gfx, everything.... :(

Garzilla04, I suggest you speak to your network admin, you will get an official answer from them whereas we will just be guessing or going from past experience. We are also unable to offer any help with going around any network policies that have been implemented.

:) -- Private Citizen , these are the maximum speeds; 10Mbps - 1.25MBps 100Mbps (you guessed it) - 12.5MBps 1000Mbps - 125MBps remember these speeds are without QoS or IP overhead, your 9MBps of transfer is pretty good ;)

9MB is pretty good, the maximum you can get is 12.5MBps, thats without IP overhead and QoS... talking about QoS, do you have this enabled on any of your window boxes as this will slow down the connection, but only slightly....

another thing to point out which many forget is that NETBios is a non-routable protocol.... meaning your private network will not be viewable (or broadcasted) over the internet.... however this does not prevent anyone from talking to your NETBios sessions (Ports 137 to 139) if you are going...

then how will you connect to it if you dont have serial ? you can't connect Ethernet to a serial cable ! Remember, just because the Cisco cable is RJ45 does not mean its Ethernet ! Cisco use that as its possible to use it with different modulal Serial connectors, e.g. Male/Female DB9 or DB25...
