Like the title says, I just upgraded my trusty Ryzen 5 3600x to a Ryzen 7 5800x.
I needed to update the BIOS on my Asrock x470 Master SLI/ac. It just would not boot at all with the chip in there with the older BIOS. I thought I'd already done this, but it turns out I'd only updated to the 3000...
So this used to work fine for me on 5.5 and earlier - add the hard drive in vsphere, rescan the scsi bus, sudo vgextend, whatever..
In Ubuntu 16.04 x64, the rescan just isn't seeing anything.
Is there something basic that I'm missing or has this somehow broken?
So here's the situation - I have a 4GB set of 996557 (DDR2-6400) and a 4GB set of 996599 (DDR2-8500)
If you have a WORKING set of either, I'd like to trade one for the other, which would give me a matched set of 4. I don't care if I end up with 8GB of 6400 or 8500. Obviously, the deal is...

So in the coming weeks I am switching from my LG eNV (original) to a crackberry curve 8830.
Yes, I have Verizon, and no, I don't mind paying for the data plan, as I plan on using it.
My question is, how do I wipe the eNV before I sell it? Is there any real need to do anything other than...

Dell seems to have stopped making decent gaming laptops. My e1705 is getting a little long in the tooth and I'm looking for something that will be a decent upgrade to it. Stats are in sig. I paid about 1500 for that machine between stock laptop and upgrades.
Does anyone know where I can find a...
So I tore down my loop a couple months ago, and since have been adjusting to a new job, which is providing a shitpot of money for me to play with.
New loop:
MCR-320QP
6 medium speed yate loons (push/pull)
Medium EK res
MCP655 (D5 Vario)
DTek Fuzion V2
EK FC 8800GT
2x EK Asus3a Mosfet...
I have a P5B Deluxe, latest bios (1236 iirc, downloaded last month) and 2x2GB Mushkin DDR2 6400 (996557).
With the 4GB installed, it will not complete the memory test, nor go into BIOS. Either stick solo the board works perfectly.
FSB is at 380, 1:1 for 760, running at 2.15V.
As a...
So I'm involved in negotiations with a seller currently, who will remain nameless to protect the innocent.
$60 total, not a lot of money for me, but I am apprehensive. No heat, no ebay.
Seller wants to do Western Union, as it's next door to the UPS store.
Halp?
I'd like to give the...

Is anyone having any problems running vmware with the F8 fix under Vista x64 SP1? There are rumours that F8 functionality is being removed... Can anyone shed some light on this?
I'm wondering if there are any GPU folders on the Horde who are watercooling their cards.. I'm especially wondering if anyone's interested in growing their farm in that respect.
:)
Vista is *so* much better behaved after turning off Superfetch. No more disk grinding for 20 minutes after boot whenever you put new files on the hard drive.. No more totally frozen system while it reads the same giant file over and over and over again (AVIs especially and ISOs too).
So no more...
I just switched from onboard sound (generally realtek) for about 5 years, to an X-Fi.
Holy crap.
WAVs sound 10x better (I am working on ringtones for ~20 people)
And mp3s sound horrid comparatively. I am sure they sound the same as they used to, but that just isn't good enough anymore...
So this is the 5th LiLi I've owned. By far the worst designed case I've ever owned.
Good things:
Awesome looking case. Classy and sleek. One of the best looking, if not the best looking case I've owned.
Things to be aware of:
1) there is a specific order of things you have to put into the...
So I finally got the SMP installed as a service. But it refuses to start on its own (usefully anyway)..
I have a wireless adapter in this machine, and it doesn't tend to start until I'm logged in. So in effect, there is no network interface for the mpi / smpd to communicate over.
Do I...
I've been hunting around to see if anyone is insane enough to run a CNPS7000-Cu with a Q6600 and it looks like I'm the only one.
Load temps are at 80C at 3.0GHz/1.325V.
It this just too much for the old trooper?
Can someone explain to me why superfetch is trying to cache 4 AVIs that I just ripped from DVD?
Every single time the machine boots up, it spends 5 minutes constantly accessing the hard drive at full bore (50MB/sec per resource monitor, which is a nice tool, FWIW) reading these 4 new AVI...
I've been looking at this camera lately, and decided that I'm probably going to grab it before I go home for the holidays.
bhphotovideo has a kit with the 18-55mm ED II DX lens, and the 55-200 ED VR DX lens for $744 shipped.
Does anyone have any experience either with this body or kit or...
So here's the situation:
I work part time as a tech for a high speed company providing service to hotels.
75% of the time, when a guest calls with Vista, it says "unknown network, local connection only" which translates into "I'm not letting you onto the internet".
That's stupid enough...
I think it would be much easier to read the individual CPU or graphics cards forums if there were some sort of per-forum user ignore function.
i.e. Known troll in the ABCXYZ forum, but has general good input in other places, have a feature that allows the user to be blocked only in that...
So I have the following that I've just tested out:
AMD Athlon XP Mobile 2600+ THREE
Socket A
1.45V, 2000 MHz Stock.
266MHz, 15x stock
I've clocked all of these over 2.5GHz on air.
Now that relic is back, he can show you how to mod them into MPs.
Step Code AXMG2600FQQ4C
IDYHA and IQYHA...
Okay, so I have tried everything I can think of to get over 350MHz FSB.
BIOS 1004
CPU: e4300 (does 3150 stable at 350 at 1.325V)
RAM: Gskill ddr2-800 (underclocked currently, and won't do more than 1:1) @ 2.1V
I've cranked up the Vfsbterm, the Vnb, the Vsb and the Vich as high as they...
Sorry if this has been asked before, the search feature is down, currently
Here's the situation. My parents have a Mac Mini, a G4 model if it matters..
They have comcast cable internet.
One of our friends is not a big time internet user, and is within the local calling area, but there is...
I never thought I'd be writing it, but Dell's tech support kicks ass.
My Inspiron 9300 had a loose DC jack in the back, so the battery wouldn't charge and the system wouldn't run without battery unless you held the plug in exactly the right spot at all times.
Got on Dell's tech chat, and...
I've just got my x1950XT and the damn thing sounds like a jet engine while I'm folding on it.
I've already got the rest of my loop set up and testing
MCP655
Apogee
MCR320QP w/ 6 Yate Loons in push pull on a 50W rheostat
1/2" tubing.
I did a search and I saw some threads on the MCW60...
This is probably asking a lot, but is there a feature where the mods can mark a certain user as a fan boy of a certain brand, product, what have you, and the system preventing them from trolling in a competing product's forum?
I think it would save mods a lot of grief.
I know that the...
Hmmm. Well, I just placed an order from FrozenCPU yesterday, and got it today (I'm 200 miles away). Ordered a couple of DD fillports. One's okay, the threads look beaten, but it functions. The other one has no hex cap. I had a small recollection of people having some DD issues lately with random...
I spent a little time with the search function, but I was unable to locate anything that specifically addressed my question, so here we go.
I am upgrading the old watercooling setup (BI Pro II, eheim 1250, apogee on 3/8ID).
I have decided on a MCP655 pump, keeping the apogee, and probably...
I've been searching the forums and haven't found anyone who's decided to upgrade from a BI-2 to a GTS 240.
I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with this, as I modded the case for the BI-2 over 3 years ago.
I am also wondering if the PA120.2 will fit on the same exact holes as the...
Tonight I'll be working on getting my SFF box and my old desktop online
Both AXPs at 2.4GHz.
With any luck, they'll be folding by Wednesday.
Both of these chips have over 15,000 hours of folding on them so far :D
Electricity is cheap, for once :D
Anyone having any issues with the 7200rpm travelstars? I bought one a year ago and it quit on me last month. It was treated pretty gingerly, so I am wondering if it's a bad apple, or if the entire barrel is rotten..
I was just running a few basic calculations.
If a modern vid card, running around 500MHz core speed throws out 500GFLOPS, that's about 1000 flop/cycle.
Overclocking your GPU by 2 MHz would be like borging a new PC.
I think I need to change my pants.
