I've got a stock 13in mid-2009 MacBook Pro with 2.53ghz Core2Duo, 4gb of RAM and a 250gb mechanical drive. Along with the debate whether to upgrade Lion to Mountain Lion, I'm wondering if its worth it to upgrade to a SSD and/or 8gb of ram vs just saving my money and upgrading sooner (maybe next...
Another question for all you excel people out there.
If column A has data and column B has associated dates, is there a function to read the data in column A and if a certain data comes up, copy the column b value into a new cell/worksheet?
Situation:
Worksheet 1
Column A Column B
data1...
Thanks for researching it arkamw! I didn't know about the substitute function either, very interesting.
I played around with the different functions and ultimately figured out a way to count a specified numbers of commas. I used:
=COUNTIF(Master!L2:L170,"*,*") to count cells with multiple...
I've got a giant spreadsheet full of data and I'm trying to generate some statistics on it.
Is there anyway to count comma's within an individual cell?
Situation:
some cells have 1 piece of data and no commas
e.g. data1
some cells have 2 pieces of data separated by a comma
e.g...
I've got an 8 year old home built computer with a failing HD. Being so old, all is has is a P-ATA connections. Almost no one sells P-ATA HD's anymore and I certainly can't find a deal on one.
My question is: if I buy a PCI SATA adapter and a SATA HD, can I boot from and install windows on...
bump? i'm still wondering. Anyone? I just need a canvas to work on. Its really distracting trying to edit a file being able to see the desktop behind it
Heh fine, XP Pro was/is the most revolutionary of its time AND still holds up very well.
I don't have another HD to test with. This HD failing would be the 2nd desktop HD I've had to replace in my house in the last month. I also replaced a laptop hard drive in my father's laptop today...
WinXP is still the best operating system ever. Coming off a fresh reinstall there shouldn't be any problems. Its more likely the matching 8 year old hardware but I don't have the parts to test that theory.
The problem is the Mac can't write NTFS, so I have no way to modify anything on the external drive. That pretty much defeats the purpose of having it as a backup.
I have a few external hard drives formatted NTFS that I'd like to format with HFS because I now use a Macbook Pro. If I format them HFS, would I be able to read the files (e.g. word doc's, avi's) with a Windows computer down the line if I needed to?
Sorry for the newbie question but thanks in...
I just gave up and reformatted the computer with a fresh copy of WinXP Pro.
Even after the reformat I'm having problems. I installed Zone Alarm and now every time the desktop loads, I get an error that True Vector failed to load and then I get a application memory error. It seems like...
When I booted up my desktop, after the WinXP loading screen everything on the screen turned up 8 bit color and in a 640x480 resolution. Then after putting in my login and password I got the following error:
"Windows cannot load the user's profile but has logged you on with the default profile...
So trying out photoshop on the mac for the first time I noticed when the program loads theres no sort of background. As in the menu bars and title bars show up but in the middle of the screen I see the other windows I'm working on. How do I get some sort of background to show up? In windows...
Hi all,
I've got a bit of a conundrum.I made a slipstream install of Windows XP Pro SP3 and removed the microsoft games from install disc.
Fast forward, I installed in on my mom's computer but now she's asking for solitaire.
I went to Windows Components Wizard to add it back but the...
I recently bought a 13in MBP and installed VirtualBox for my windows needs. I was wondering if virtualbox can output signal to an external display through the displayport port. Any light shed on this question would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
D
So I bought a 13' MBP over the weekend and so far am enjoying getting used to a new OS and all but I'm having problems with my Logitech mouse. By default my MX518 doesn't have the same functions as in Windows (the 518 isn't listed as mac compatible) but I installed Steermouse to restore the...
I'm making a bar graph in excel 2007 and if I remove the horizontal gridlines from the graph, it gets rid of all of them. I'd like to retain the very bottom gridline
So I'd basically like x and y axes and no other gridlines, but whenever I remove the horizontal gridlines it gets rid of the X...
I was wondering if this combination is going to look like total shit or not.
My beloved Thinkpad T42 died last month and I bought a temporary replacement notebook (Toshiba Satellite L305-S5944). The replacement was only $400.
I want to buy a 24in Dell monitor to hook up to my laptop but...
In firefox I have multiple tabs setup to open when a window opens. But what I really want is just the tabs to load for the first open window but subsequent windows have just one tab. It really bogs down my laptop when i open a new window and it has to load all 5 homepages again. Does anyone...
Well I wasn't prepared just then to shell out $80 for the recovery software, so I suppose the question is: is there a way to rebuild the partition table without having to use software to "recover" the files and then doing a fresh format of the hard drive. I don't have enough hard drive space to...
So I couldn't get windows to stop my passport drive this morning so I just yanked out the usb cable and now when I plug it back in, the drive doesn't appear in windows explorer. Disk manager shows it as a blank drive with 100% space free but I ran recoverysoft demo software on it and the program...
I didn't see SMS or data listed anywhere in the plan specifically, or anywhere on the site for that matter. I was wondering how much is or isn't included.
sorry to hijack your thread but my dad is looking into buying the same laptop and i was wondering if anyone new if either the X1400 or X1300 will be Vista Premium supported (ie >1800mb/s graphic bandwidth). I can't find anything specific on the ATI website about it. According to Intel's website...
I skimmed over the rules because I remember vaguely something about not posting a "whats the value of my..." threads but i didn't see it in my skimmings so I'm gonna post (if I didn't skim hard enough the mods can delete this). After seeing (and consequently drooling) over the new Sony Vaio...
I'm quite content with the features of the stock firmware that the WRT54G v2 has but theres one thing in particular I was wondering if an open source firmware could provide. I'm wondering if there is a firmware out there that boosts the power to the antenna. my router is upstairs and downstairs...
my friends hard drive failed on his inspiron 5100 so dell sent him another hd. but he put it in and got an error message that the thing didn't have a boot sector. how stupid is that? anyway is there anyway to install boot sectors using a floppy or something?
