I have a ca. 2013 (I think) 65" Panasonic tv as my main viewing TV. It still looks great but I'm getting antsy now that it seems it's becoming salad days for huge tvs with low prices.
Seriously considering retiring it for a 98/100" mini LED this year.
Just saw this announced. I'm an old fart who doesn't game much anymore but I have been considering getting back into it. I currently have a 34" Dell widescreen but saw this just got released.
Seems like it might be perfect for me, I need a good USB hub and productivity features with "good...
I bought a "work" monitor (U3415W) because I thought I was done with PC gaming, but I think I might come back.
Anyway, I'm looking in the 27" 1440p range, probably. Are there any 100Hz+ 27" gaming monitors with a built in USB KVM switch?
What I mean by this is on my Dell I can plug in an...
Yeah, same here. I think if I went multi-monitor 3 would be the right number. With 2 I would put one center and one in portrait next to it on the side.
Need to be looking at pure monitor straight ahead.
So I just had an interesting conversation with Dell. I ordered the U3415W from Amazon so I tried to cancel my Dell order. They said it just shipped today (apparently) so I will need to just get a return label or refuse the shipment and will get a full refund. So that's fine.
But he also said...
Last friday.
EDIT: Though.. it says they expect it delivered on the 29th, and their order status page doesn't say "shipped" yet so I'm a little dubious now...
Man.. that's kind of pricey. The LX is rated to 20 pounds and the monitor is a few pounds under that, should be OK right?
My monitor also is shipping early and should be here next week, looking for a mount. I was thinking of the HP branded LX - only $103, people in reviews saying it's working...
That's the one I used last night. Note it only seems to work on the specific Dell link they give in the article, I couldn't get it to work on the home consumer page, EPP page, etc... so make sure you go in "clean" to that URL they give.
Bit the bulllet, ordered this thing. Tired of waiting for decent 4K monitor 34"+. Maybe in a few years.
Best I could manage was 5% cash back from discover and 10% discount code. Seems most of the stacking/EPP shenanigans don't work any more, and it won't ship for a few weeks, but maybe I'll get...
I'm seeing both Jack and Shite out of CES regarding decent large 4K monitors, so this is starting to look like the only game in town until maybe the Seiki (finally) comes out?
Either way, wish the thing would come to the US.
Snoozlefest for me. Don't care about < 32" screens, screens less than 4K, and barely care about <34" screens.
I may bite the bullet and buy the 40" Philips if it ever comes to the US. I'm seeing a bunch of boring, dreary announcements for dreary, boring monitors.
Since I use mine for development, this would also be my perfect display. Well.. perfect as in "vaguely realistic".
Sky's the limit, an extra wide 42" screen with 8K resolution, 120fps, etc...
You have to be fairly strong to carry a 165 pound, unwieldy TV around the house.
But more importantly why would you want to? I don't understand this nostalgia for CRTs. They are dead, and good riddance because they are crap. Other than a few dimensions few people really care about they were...
Yes, they can very, very easily be upscaled. Each pixel turns into 4, it's about the easiest upscaling you can do at least for 1080p games. 720p not quite so neat, but yes it will scale it.
You won't get any additional detail out of it, though. And there will never be 4k native gaming on...
No US version? How ridiculous. Not going through rigmarole of ordering overseas, if philips doesn't want my money then eff them, not giving it to them.
Guess the Acer 32" is looking like choice #1 now.
Man, I'm so close to pulling the trigger on this after waiting for a good 4K 32+ monitor to come out.
Anybody foresee it dropping below $900 before Christmas?
Also, I'm not using it for gaming but work - what's the cheapest confirmed 4K SST supporting GPU I could buy? Looking like a GTX750...
Lol, was wondering the same thing. I saw the title and was like "wut?". Then I read the thread and was like "lolwut"?
Now I'm just confused. This seems like one of those threads where people try to argue whether CDs are really better than vinyl, when the answer was long ago settled that...
IMO a lot of the CRT stuff is nostalgia. They're better in a few dimensions than a good LCD, they are not better overall unless all you care about are those few dimensions.
It's kind of like the VHS vs. Beta myth. Inferior VHS did not beat out superior Beta - VHS was better overall, Beta was...
Selling a lot of units that then proceed to collect dust and set Nintendo up for its eventual demise is not a "success".
It's a short-term gimmick. Claiming that the Wii was some sort of awesome success, which people _still_ insist on doing despite the fact that it was clearly a failure even...
I'm in the same boat. I kind of want to get the 39" Seiki but have heard the lag and/or refresh cause issues even with "work", e.g. mouse delay.
I wish Seiki would wake up and make a 60Hz 39" 4K TV, I'd be willing to pay a few hundred more. 39" seems about the perfect size for a work...
How much does it cost to include the DisplayPort electronics?
If it's on the order of e.g. $200, then I understand the omission. If it's more like $40 like I suspect, it's ridiculous they aren't putting them in.
Yeah, the no DisplayPort thing is frustrating. I would happily pay $200 more for DisplayPort and I know it wouldn't cost them that much to add.
I'm still tempted to get the 39", I spend 99% of my time at the Windows desktop and that's a lot of real estate.
But I'm worried that in 2 months...
I'm in the same boat, I'm going to wait a few months. I think the 39" 4K TV's (Seiki/Asus) will be the ticket. 50" _might_ be a bit too big for my computer desk, 39"@4K would be sweeet, especially if they manage 60Hz.
Yeah, it's weird. I work as a software developer with geeky, technical people and I'm amazed that some of them do it too.
Don't touch the screen - how hard is it?
I'm building a new machine, my Q6600 is finally feeling sluggish in some areas.
Here's my plan, anybody see any issues?
My goals are, in order, silence and small size. I'm too impatient to wait for ITX boards and SG02 seems small enough.
I will be adding a GPU as well, but probably not...
Looks like it may be a few weeks for mitx boards... I'm losing patience, considering matx. What are the smallest few matx cases out there, anyone know?
I wish there were more (any?) cases that assumed there was no need for an optical bay of any kind, not even slim. I doubt I'll ever buy another optical drive with any new computer I build and I would like to see size savings like this.
Worst cast and I find I need one (seems I never do any...
If you're smart you _always_ wait as long as you can hold out until you build a new machine. So it always comes down to how long you can wait. I don't see enough major issues on your list to stall me much longer (I'm running Q9650), though I am definitely going to wait for z68 as that is a...
I just built a WHS 2011 server with this case, couldn't have been happier. Shitload of drive bays (using 5 now), good cooling, very quiet, nice fit and finish etc..
Not as fun as a desktop build, but it was one of the simpler and more pleasant build experiences I've had.
Looks pretty hot for a home server, 7 drives(*) (plus(?) 4 2.5") fit in it. Then again, you can get as many in the q08 and it's a bit smaller.
* Utilizing 5.25 bays for 3x3.5 bay.
Hi - I'm building an i3-540 WHS system using integrated video. Might have as many as 5-6 drives attached, but otherwise nothing else - no CDROM drive, no PCI cards, etc...
So I'm thinking 200W would be plenty. What's the most efficient PSU in the <350W range?
And here's a dumb question -...
People tend to only post when something's broken, so like you I'll briefly post that I got a seemingly perfect monitor. No stuck/dead pixels, no obvious backlight bleed though I haven't tested in a dark room. I'm coming from a 20" CRT and I'm surprised how good the blacks look on this monitor...
Test it out, especially if you're building from scratch. Install WHS, dump some data on it (with duplication turned on), and then simulate a rebuild by popping out your system drive and reinstalling on another.
In my experience it was very easy to get it back up and running, but maybe I was...
I agree there. It worked for me and it probably "usually" works but it may not always work and a good backup strategy is always a good idea. I would backup my data, do the server reinstall and hope for the best, and if it doesn't work you will have planned for the worst and will still have...
