Oh awesome, sounds like you're doing what I was hoping I could be doing. I'll check out mobilerss too, it's kind of dumb how all these things seem so obvious *after* posting the thread.

Yeah I know it isn't too much, just trying to save money where I can. Looks like I'll just have to deal with it, oh well. Thanks for the response.

    iPad "offline" mode

Sorry if this has been answered, but I did some searching around and I had trouble finding stuff. I'm contemplating getting an iPad, one of the major uses being to read while I ride the bus to and from work. However, I don't want to pay for a data plan...I have a blackberry and wanted to...

    Desktop connection dropping

Was in the process of working through the updates (got to updating the BIOS) when I had to leave. Came back 12 hours later and everything was fixed (at least I can maintain a connection again). ugh oh well. Thanks anyway I'd replace the NIC cuz I've heard bad things about it, but it's an SFF...

    Desktop connection dropping

hey everyone, tried searching but I'm having trouble finding someone with an issue that displays the same symptoms as mine does. Maybe my google is weak today. Anyway, my desktop's connection is being flaky, dropping every 5 or less minutes for about 5ish minutes at a time before reconnecting...

Have the urge to upgrade my PC

Is there anything specific that you do with your computer often? Or an area where you might see a deficiency? As well as a budget? Games you play? Screen size? etc etc It's usually easier to recommend replacements if you give people something to work with. Considering your post right now, I...

    HUGELY important Thermal grease Question

The chips will perform the same running at 40°C v. 35°C, it's only till the 90°C+ range that you need to start looking at temperatures closer. Honestly, I wouldn't have bothered ordering thermal paste to begin with, you won't need it.

There isn't a reason to apply AS5 if you don't need lower temperatures though..

how will non-hd stuff appear on full hd 22 incher ?

There are a few <24" monitors with 1920×1080 resolutions, so most people assume 1680×1050. In this case, it doesn't really matter, as both resolutions are well above standard definition material. As for your second line... more or less, your system won't have a problem playing standard...

Wondering how much this would cost ( NOT FS)

For the desktop only, I'd guesstimate ≈100 considering what my company sells older boxes like these for. So overall, I would guess 200 would be the high side of someone's offer, with 150 probably being closer to it. All USD btw.

how will non-hd stuff appear on full hd 22 incher ?

If you're talking about standard definition stuff upscaling, then yes it'll happen. Videos don't magically gain pixels when we play them on higher resolution screens. ;) Your SD still will look blocky..at least it does to me. :| fwiw, HD only really denotes resolution...so...yeah you can just...

    E8400 3.0 or Q8200 2.33

Well, overclocking shouldn't really be a priority on an HTPC. The way I would look at an HTPC is the ability to deliver the power you need to do what you want while minimizing power draw, heat dissipation, and noise level. Stock E5200, without any software decoders, decoding high bitrate 1080p...

    E8400 3.0 or Q8200 2.33

What's defined as minor, because the quad will definitely deal with the encoding much better. Both have the horsepower to do the ripping, playback, and HTPC stuff. What about pricing?

    Q6600

Q6600 is EOLed. Is it worth buying? That question you'll have to answer yourself, as it will depend on the rest of your budget, what you do, and possibly what you expect out of the chip. The Q9xxx's are looking pretty good right now since the Q6600s price has risen somewhat. edit: oh forgot...

    Any disadvantages to waiting?

DDR2 prices will probably level off and then begin to increase as DDR3 ramps up. This may not be a problem for you. Other components tend to be pretty static as companies roll out new models at the same price points. Hard drives pricing is pretty good right now, steady decline downward in...

Losing water, but not through a leak?

hm, that makes sense. Guess there were some large pockets of air sitting around somewhere in the loop. ...how dumb... Yeah I actually hadn't thought to refill it again, mostly because it wasn't causing any problems. That would've actually made this a much more interesting post if it...

Losing water, but not through a leak?

So when I refilled my loop when getting back from school, I filled the res all the way and just let it run for a bit. I normally sit there and turn everything around to get the air pockets out, but I was going somewhere, so I just filled the res to the top. Usually, as the air bubbles bleed...

    SSD or HDD For Gamming

The price v. performance of SSDs v. conventional mechanical hard drives isn't significant enough to make it an instant landslide in favor of either side. You'll definitely need to look at the prices before making a decision. In absolute terms, SSDs are faster.

I just received my G. Skill Falcon 128 GB SSD...now what?

Oh, I guess that makes more sense. I read it as being "don't partition it or you will fill up the drive faster" (Me: what's the correlation between partitions and the rate a user fills up their drives? o_0), as opposed to being "fill up the OS partition faster". Anyway... good to know on...

I just received my G. Skill Falcon 128 GB SSD...now what?

uhm, rephrase please? Also, from what I remember about SSDs, the initial partitions are not full size in order to allow for this: http://www.anandtech.com/storage/showdoc.aspx?i=3531&p=9 However, it's not a hard reason to not redo a partition that is the full size of the drive...

    What the...? $6 for 1TB?

*shrug* I think most of us are expecting the money back and it's not like we spent the last of this week's bread money on five hard drives. If it goes through, you get a bunch of hard drives for cheap, if it doesn't you get nothing and your money back. Lose? I can't find it.

Okay I got a resolution to the problem. Talked to support after exhausting my own troubleshooting, I didn't have an SLA so i wanted to try to fix it on my own first. Anyway, the techs took a look and tried a few things, what eventually worked was them reinstalling with AHCI enabled. I don't...

    Disappointing Disk Performance

Well, which one? I ran the HDTach in compatibility mode (Windows Server 2008) and it wouldn't finish the sequential read test. HDTune's read test runs fine, but I don't think the problem lies in the reading just based on what I'm seeing in the disk statistics. I can't run the write test...
