Alright, after some time, I will finally be building a complete computer system myself.

I was put on a very strict budget, so here what I have to deal with...
- Intel Core Duo 2 E4300 CPU
- Gigabyte GA-P965-DS3 Mobo
- eVGA 7900GT KO GPU
- OCZ Special Ops 2GB (2X1GB) PC6400 800Mhz DDR2 (OCZ2SOE8002GK)
- 450Watt PSU or 600Watt PSU???
- 250GB and 80GB Seagate SATA 7200RPM

All part's have already been ordered, so think it's too late for a change.

I will be looking to overclock the CPU, but I am a complete noob to overclocking, so please help me with that. I also heard that my mobo is perfect for overclocking, so I hope it is.

Please post any comments about my build, and I will update this thread as the parts come in.

Looks good.

If you are planning to overclock it will always be a good idea to get a aftermarket cooler like the Arctic Cooler Freezer 7 Pro.

Also what are the model numbers of those PSU's?

De ja vu... http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1200287

What specific model PSUs are those?

For nearly the same price as the Pentium D 940, you'll get a much better chip with the E4300.

What's your budget?

Those two questions are still unanswered, but you already ordered... so o wellz. In any case, which model PSUs are those?

FYI, you don't need DDR2-800 with an E4400, nor with an E4300 -- all you need is DDR2-667. Also, why go for the E4400? the E4300 is a bit cheaper and can OC the same.

E4300: 9 * 200 = 1.8Ghz, DDR2-400 << stock
E4300: 9 * 333 = 3.0Ghz, DDR2-667 << typical OC
E4300: 8 * 400 = 3.2Ghz, DDR2-800 << would make use of that DDR2-800 ram, since I doubt that chip can reach 3.6Ghz (9 * 400)

E4400: 10 * 200 = 2.0Ghz, DDR2-400 << stock
E4400: 10 * 333 = 3.3Ghz, DDR2-667 << typical OC

From reading those labels, the 450W has 25A available on the +12V rail and the 2nd (which looks like an Ultra PSU) has 25A on the +12V rails. With the 7900GT, go with the 600W PSU, especially if you're OC'ing.

Thanks for your comments! :)

The model number of the 600watt PSU is XF600BK. The 450 is just a PSU that came with the case that I bought, so it's basically generic.

I got the DDR2-800 instead of the DDR2-667 because it was cheaper and better. With this memory, will the overclock be much better than overclocking with DDR2-667?

And yea...I am looking to get aftermarket cooler because I will be overclocking. I am going to fry's today, so I will go see what I can get.

Oh and my budget was 400.00 bucks, but here's the amount I spent..
- Intel Core Duo 2 E4400 CPU 113.50
- Gigabyte GA-P965-DS3 Mobo 80.00
- eVGA 7900GT KO GPU 100.00
- OCZ Special Ops 2GB (2X1GB) PC6400 800Mhz DDR2 (OCZ2SOE8002GK) 65.00
- 450Watt PSU or 600Watt PSU??? FREE

Total - 358.50 Budget met successfully. :)

So the 650w one is X-Finity.

I would run from the generic 450w PSU.

- OCZ Special Ops 2GB (2X1GB) PC6400 800Mhz DDR2 (OCZ2SOE8002GK)

If the timing of the RAM is 5-5-5-12 @ 2.1V, it is not Micron D9xxx, which will not OC well.
If it doesn't matter, it looks pretty nice...

Go visit the overclocking and cooling section for all your overclocking needs.

No need to overclock DDR2-800 ram with an E4400. Just run the base FSB at 400 and the CPU multiplier at 8x, and you'll have 3.2Ghz easily. For a cooler, check out the AC Freezer 7pro from eWiz.com (should be $22 shipped). That should keep it cool enough.

8 * 400 = 3.2Ghz, 2 * 400 = DDR2-800

Don't worry, you won't notice much difference going from CL4 to CL5. For people on a tight budget, its not worth the extra $20 unless they have a very low CPU multiplier and want to OC high.

Dude...sounds good...will try it...I gotta get a cooler though..I am looking to buy the AC freezer 7 pro soon....Just came back from fry's too, and forgot to pick it up..darn!!

Checked on ewiz for the Arctic Cooler Freezer 7 Pro, and it's 29 shipped....darn...

UPDATE - I have canceled the order for the E4400 and got the E4300 instead. That leaves me about 24 bucks to spend on the cooler....:)

Awe, the free shipping promo is over. Sorry bud. I still think thats the best price you'll find it ($20 + shipping/tax). Newegg sells it for $35 BEFORE tax and shipping, lol.

Fry's prices on coolers are usually much higher than online.

Aww...darn...lol...well if it's my only chance, then I will get it from ewiz. :)

However, I will be going to fry's today to see if they have it....I can get a employee discount so I really don't have to worry about the price..hehe...:D

where can you get GA-P965-DS3's for 80?

I got it here on the [H] at the FS/WTB area....lol...:p

Isn't that only a 10% off discount? or did they change it now (aside from setting your own price for the item, lol)? and if its more, then nice... so uh, which fry's will u be going to? lol.

Yea, it's a 10%, but my boy can take up to 50% off...hehe..lol...:D.....I go to the Fry's located in GA.

Yah... thats the setting-your-own-price thing called "price matching." GA? damn, too far, lol. I miss having friends that work at Fry's/Best Buy/etc... but I guess its cool... cuz now I have friends that work at Pioneer/Intel/etc, lol.

Oh...I forgot to list the HD I was using..lol...:p....I also decided to use the 600watt PSU for my PC.
