Aliens: Colonial Marines (new game)

well it ain´t AVP3, but it looks damn sweeet!!!
 
is that a proprietary engine? or it´s the doom3 engine?
 
Huh.....so they decided to bring the project back to life (if anyone doesn't know, they were originally going to have this come out on the PS2 a looooooong time ago but they scrapped it)? Cool, can't wait to play it.

Well I just went to my AvP boards and they posted this up already. This is what they have found out.

Aliens : Colonial Marines is a First Person Shooter with mechanics that stress working
together as a unit. Four Colonial Marines investigate the Sulaco. Unlike many FPS titles,
thre is not one central hero character (awesome!!!), the role is shared among the whole
squad. The game reinforces that notion by assigning the player to control a set marine
for a particular mission; you will experience everyone's perspective.

Marines carry four weapons:
*Primary weapon
*Secondary weapon
*grenades
*handgun

Primary weapons like pulse rifles and smartguns, are how class will be represented.

"We wish to remain authentic to the true soldiers, so characters generally do not drop
or pick up weapons. That is one of the reasons we switch character during the story -
to keep our soldiers realistic, but still give the player access to different weaponry
throughout the game".

The secondary weapon will vary and be customized according to the character,
like Hicks' shotgun in Aliens.

Each character will also carry a special item they can interact with allies or the
enviornment.
*Hacking tool for sealed doors
*Torch can weld things shut
*Medical Kit can revive as well as neutralize acid burns.

There are Squad Commands. Besides move and attack orders, you can also
use context senstive commands like hacking doors, sealing vents, and setting up
gun turrets.

There will be elements at highlight horror and suspence from the film. Aliens
will use the enviornment to their advantage. Air ducts, ceiling pipes, gratings on
the floor. Position, firepower and cooperation will be important. Motion tracker
confirmed and flamethrower confirmed.

FOUR PLAYERS CO-OP CAMPAIGN
2 players Splitscreen and 4 players online play!

players can join and drop, a.i. takes over the vacancies.

There will be moments whre you can barricade yourselves to survive an onslaught
of aliens. With more feelings of tension and desperation to survive.

Character depth will is being worked on. "That's something people forget:
The characters DO matter." Everyone thinks 'Oh, they're going to be fodder',
but if you don't care about them, they're pointless."

The game will go beyond the Sulaco, there will be human enemies involved that
was the aliens as biological weapons. And the mystery of the space jockey's species might
be also revealed.

"We have squadmates that need to survive, until we kill them in the story."
[This could throw a wrench in the workings of the group, especially if it leaves a player
without a marine to control. Gearbox is aware of that but hasn't settled on the best way
to resolve the situation. "We are going to make the absolute best co-op game we can
make to the extent that it doesn't interfere with the best single player game we can make."
"Obviously there are some things we can't do if there are always four people alive, but
there are ways around that situation. We are going to find them, because it's our job to."

CLose-Encounters system. "Close encounters are almost unlimited in their ability to
let us do what we want to do. Aliens can interact with the world - it isn't just a bunch
of button presses until its over. The alien could leap back onto a cabinet, or another one
of your squadmates. He could leap back and through a duct and out of sight."

The marine's actions in the example are initiated by the player through responding to
less intrusive instructions. A subtle flash of green on the right side of the screen
tells you to move the analog stick in that direction, whereas one in the upper left corner
could be a prompt to pull the left trigger. By abandoning the usual control scheme,
close encounters makes it possible for the team to create those one-of-a-kind combat
situations that caputre the flavor of the most iconic moments in Aliens.
"If we were to recreate the power-loader battle against the queen, that would be a
close encounter."

TYPES OF ALIENS. "There won't be porcupine aliens shooting spines at you. It
can't be goofy or stupid. You have the original Alien, and we sort of think of him
as the smart one, as a scout. He'll hide and ambush people. Then there's the Warrior
Alien, which we see in Aliens, which is going to be the one that rushes you and comes
in volume."

"It's the granddaddy of military sci-fi. With next-gen technology, we can finally do it
justice. We can really make the aliens look scary, we can make the setting freaky, and
we can creat the characters the players care about."

Screenshots to note:

*sleeping chamber in Sulaco that wasn't jettisoned.
*APC. They seem to note that there will be driving segments.
*comparison screens of the movie Sulaco interior with the game version's inferior.
*Facehugger screenshot. Seems to note there is no HUD. (if true, this KICKS ASS!!!)
*Pulse Rifle shooting at jumping facehagger, note of possibly being able to use
close encounters system to save yourself.
*Screenshot showing first person view of player holding the Motion Tracker, there
are 3 squadmates up ahead and one of them is welding the door. Note that those
marines are placeholders and they will have unique appearance in final version.
*Turrets firing at an alien
*Huge picture of 4 marines and 3 aliens in a battle. You can clearly see the LED ammo
counter on the other Marines' pulse rifles.

The graphics are beautiful and authentic to the Aliens archtecture and lighting.

THE GAME WILL HAVE MULTIPLAYER CAPABILITIES in addition to the
4 players co-op campaign.
 
wow! bout damn time they come out with another Aliens themed game, looks pretty good cant wait, looks like late 2008 is gearing up to be a fantastic time once again for PC gaming.

This is going to be awesome. AvP is one my favorite games of all time.

mine too. i used to play it at night with the lights off, and with a some big speakers.
I hope the surround some in that new game would give some more realism to the game

AvP2 is one of my favorite pc games of all time.
 
The only thing that scares me about this is the release date, since Gearbox is working on it how can they possibly have it done by the end of this year with Brothers in arms HH still not released yet and that title seen several delays.

I would almost bet the release date will be changed to summer 2009.
 
About fucking time!


Im happy as pig snot that they finally have the Technology to do the Franchise Justice. 3D engines, Graphics hardware and AI are now to the point that we can finally experience something that "puts you in the movie".. If they do it right, this could be an all-time favorite.

Damn.. I need a 42" monitor now!

The Screenshots seem to suggest the game is in a very advanced state of production.. I could see a Gold release in November.

Guess I'll have to live with this. Screenshots look cool, so I'm definitely interested in playing it.

But AvP3...:(

I use to be so jumpy when playing AVP2, you knew as soon as it got really quite and it seemed like there was nothing around... something was coming!
In my opinion playing as the marine in AVP2 was the better of the 3 races to play.
This game looks like it has serious potential and I am so glad they are making it. It's been too long since a good Aliens game.
I just hope they don't make this into a Movie.... Unless they make it right!
 
im fucking ready for some alien action. nothing beats the classic marines vs aliens theme. im PUMPED :D
 
Cool thought.. What if they take it to the next level and instead of only being "Killed" by the Aliens, they can drag you off to their hive as a side-quest to get back in the game you have to fight your way out.. or have a rescue..

So many possibilties..

The bad part about AvP2 was that all enemies were scripted, thus the motion tracker actually wasn't useful at all, since enemies (aliens) usually spawn either in corridor right next to you, or behind you, or behind that next turn in the vent or behind boxes.

Once you played through the marine campaign twice, you remember where and when all enemies come from, effectively eliminating any scare factor.

I hope enemies aren't scripted this time and that you actually have to use the motion tracker to see them coming.
 
I am getting a z-5500 system this week...wohooo this game will rock on that bad boy
 
I hope this game turns out well. I'm so tired of the industry screwing up good licenses *cough* Star Trek *cough*.
 
This game is going to rock. I think it's going to be like AVP meets COD4.

I certainly hope not. I hope it has the same feel found in AvP2, with similar gameplay elements, but taking advantage of new tech and not so linear paths.
The extreme linearity and scripted events in CoD4 ruin it for me.
 
sweeet, finally some nice screenshots. i had been hoping screenshots would come out soon..i did the alien model for this game quite a while back and its finally cool to see some screenshots. looks as if some slight changes had been made to the model i had done, but still cool to see

Well what I meant was that you don't just take it from one view point, you play as several different marines instead of just one Rambo hero.
 
5 years from now, teens wont know what aliens or predator are. I was worried we had seen the last of the alien games.

I dont care how bad the game is, Ill buy it just to make the sales to keep them comming.

I hope the game is hardcore. I want hard as hell gameplay. I want dark and scarry as shit. None of this garbage COD4 run and gun. I want this to be a piss your pants hard. I want to be to scared to go down that corridor, that I lock myself in a room, torch the door shut, and have to keep nervously panning between the door thats being bashed in, and the ceiling, that now has dust falling from it, or the floor grate that just shifted. I want to look at my ammo reader and see only a dozen rounds left...I want to get pwned.
