http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=70317&page=478

Ok this is the Official ARMA 2 thread after reading this thread over at the official forums http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=73112&page=21 and watching the video's people have been making, the game sounds like it is a lot better than ARMA 1 and looks sweet. I am officially pumped!

What is Arma 2? Basically it is the most realistic Military shooter you can play.

ARMA 2 (often incorrectly referred to as Armed Assault 2) is a military simulation game for the PC in development by Bohemia Interactive Studio. It is considered the next spiritual successor in the Operation Flashpoint-series following its predecessor, ArmA: Armed Assault (ArmA: Combat Operations in North America) The game was officially announced on August 22, 2007 at the Games Convention in Leipzig, Germany. Valve's Steam made ARMA 2 available for pre-order on June 1 2009.[6]

PLAY THE GAME NOW!

If anyone can't wait this guy found a place you can purchase the game from in germany and download it. The there is an english patch mod to convert it to english.

http://forums.bistudio.com/showpost.php?p=1296151&postcount=258

Yes, i am living in the USA, I bought it off of the German Peter Games website, I filled in all my credit card info and all that (Wit hthe help of a translator) And there is a unofficial patch that converts the ENTIRE game to english

Go here: http://petergames.nexway.de/Kaufen-Arma_II-671810.html (This is where I bought mine)

Click Senden>Konto Erstellen>Then fill in the form

*Art: Privat (Use this, it says Private)
*Titel: Herr(Mr) Frau (Mrs)
* Name: (I think this is first name, i put my firs name here)
* Vorname: (Last Name)
* E-Mail: (Email)
* Bestätigungs E-mail: (Confrim Email)
* Adresse: (Address, can be a PO box too)
* Postleitzahl: (ZIP COde)
* Ort: (Town/City)
* Land: Vereinigte Staaten von Amerika(United States of America)
Beruf: (Occupation)
* Passwort: (Passowrd)

Then after you fill that it, youll be logged in, pick your payment(Paypal or Debit/Credit Card). After you choose payment, and go pay, you wil lget a new page with all the info, also containing your game CD Key(This is also used for online activation) Then go to your email(You'll get a email from them), and click "Download", you can either download the game in one click, or you can download it separatly in 12 parts, in which there is a self-extracting .exe which will extract the game to your PC, then you can install. Then install the patch 1.01, and insert your CD-key when prompted and when asking to activate online. Then you can use a English patch to convert it to all english.

If there's any German words you don't understand, use Google Translator, it will do an acceptable job of translating(Its not the best but you can understand it)

ehhh....reminds me of those Operation Flashpoint games back in the last 90's. They touted realism and high technology yet the gameplay was terrible.

Ultra-realistic combat shooters just don't work.

there was only one game called Operation Flashpoint, and it was released in 2001, they are not mainstream, true.

I liked em *shrug*. The realism was what made it so fun to play with my friends.

I thought OFP was awesome, especially online. I used to a play a bit with three or four players, which you wouldn't think would be interesting at all given the scale of the terrain, but it essentially turned the game into an elaborate manhunt. We'd just spawn on the map, give ourselves about 15 minutes to spread out and took it from there. Most other games are so singularly focused on constant, non-stop action that there ends up being so little to the gameplay that you rarely experience anything new or different.

If ArmA 2 is essentially just a refined OFP with better graphics, that's all anyone could ever ask for in a large-scale realistic shooter.

Any of them show sniping?

If Wikipedia is correct, then it's already been released in Germany. Is that correct? Any German reviews for it? Is there a demo coming?

In the first video, there seems to be some kind of zooming every so often. What is that?

I LOVED Operation Flashpoint.

The biggest problem is these games should be called simulators, they are NOT FPS games and thats why so many people bad mouth them. They expected an FPS game and got a realistic simulator that makes you learn and think to actually play the game....

Gameplay was fantastic it's just took time, like a simulator, to get good at.

Nothing was greater than commanding your boys and getting through a mission without losing anyone. When you could command your guys little by little and watch your plan unfold was just so rewarding. Ultra realistic games work for those who want to put in the time.

Check out ArmAholic.com and armedassault.info for tons of info on the German release and known points about the game.

All in all, I am a bit disappointed to see that they have not addressed several major deficiencies in the engine since OFP was released. Yes, the graphics are improved but there are things that the modding community added years ago that should have been integrated.

so, will there be [H]arma group or something? I would like some squad style multiplayer with peeps.

I am pretty excited about this game. Be the first "new" game I have purchased since Crysis Warhead and that Far Cry 2 debacle.

Ultra-realistic combat shooters just don't work.

Maybe for you they don't work.

I also saw a video with 3rd person POV. It had that zoom thing going on as well. These two things seem to take away from the realism big-time. Can these type of console-type things be disabled server side? I can't understand why these type of things would be in a simulation game.

what Zoom are you guys talking about?

The zooming is littered throughout the first video. See 2:48. It happens with both the iron sights raised and lowered. Unfortunately, many games have this. I can't stand it.

You're all going to have your souls crushed when you realize what a buggy, un-polished mess this game will be released as. Temper those expectations.

I have been reading the official forums for the game and a lot of people are happy, not that buggy.

I bought the german release version. If you liked Arma, this is better in most respects. Aside from the obvious graphics / sound improvemetns there is a lot that at first glance has been improved from OFP and Arma.
The atmosphere is great, the missions are much better / interesting. For me, the performance is similar to Arma as well, but with a lot more detail on screen, so I guess you could say performance is improved. The game definately has its quirks and some of the mission scripting is currently broken - not always, but enough to turn off people. Ideally we'd all like these games to be polished and bug free upon release, but that's not going to happen witha game of this scale (there still are no games of even OFP's scale and that's 9 years old...).

If past efforts from past BIS are any indication, the game will receive numerous patches addressing a lot of the bugs and will continuously improve the coding and add additional content throughout the life of the game (3-4 years). If your the type of person that won't accept bugs, then its probably best to stear clear for now. For me the game is just too good to pass up. I play many of the new games and FPS that come out, but I always go back to to this series.

Here's the way I look at it / justify the bugs. In a game like COD4 you get about 1,000 features / things you can do with 50 bugs associated with it. In Arma you get 10,000 things you can do, but 300 bugs. Sure the game is way more buggy, but your able to do 10 times as much with the game.

That is a pretty good review.

I hate to do this, but does anyone know how it compares to Red Orchestra?

I have heard it has ballistics like RO but does it also have free aim and no crosshairs or can you pull that just aim at centre of screen crap?

The home page wasn't much help neither was wiki.

Yeah, I guess, not really a review, just some first impressions. If people are looking for specific information, I'll try to answer whatever questions I can.

There are a lot of vids posting bugs, etc. You can certainly go out of your way to find them. Seems like a lot of people on the official forums find their favorite bug / or "missing" feature and harp on it. There's one guy whose biggest problem with the game is that a tank can be destroyed with a machine gun. Which sounds like a pretty miserable bug for a simulator, but when you see what you have to do to make that actually happen (unload 800 -1000 rounds into a tank), when would that ever happen in a gameplay situation?

I had performance issues initially, but a bit of tuning and I have pretty good results now. So I can sympathize with anyone that has a fairly up to date computer that is having trouble running the game. A lot of people with older (like mid range today) hardware seem to have little to no issues though.

Again, probably not a game for everyone. But for 9 years running, my favorite series and this one just ups the ante.

ARMA is more like a military simulator, requires patience, RO is still an action game.

It doesn't compare. They are two different game types.

I have to say, I'm getting excited about this one after seeing all the videos, and being a huge OpFlash fan. I don't think I'll pay $50 at release for it, since like many have said it's likely to have bugs, but maybe a bit down the line when it's on sale. I bought ArmA for $4 brand new retail not more than a couple months ago. :cool:

To all arma2 players in this forum : how's the mouse input ? i've experienced on arma 1.14 massive amounts of acceleration smoothness and delay even with floating zone set to 0 and X/Y sensitivities on the second lowest setting, that was a real turn off ! fyi i use a 19" CRT monitor at 120/100hz vsync is always disabled and my "frames to render ahead to" is set 1 instead of 3, so it's most propably the engine's fault not my system.

What about performance ? i game on XP SP2 and my sustem specs are : E6600 @ 3.3ghz evga gtx260 192core @ 216 SSC clocks and 4 gigs of ram ( 3 actually available :p ) i usually game at 1280*960 with 2x AA, what settings should i use ? i want to stay above 50fps even in big firefights inside towns

Do we really need a quad core in order to get good framerates on cpu intensive situations ? ( like GTAIV ) If this game is half what OFP was i wouldn't really mind buying trackIR 5 and a new cpu/mobo/ram combo just for its sake :)

None of us are playing it yet, it was released in Germany, check out this thread over here http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=73112

Basicly like a MMO game then aint it. more bugs can arise in a MMO then any other game genra yet as you clearly noted, can do more things in a mmo then most genra's

Okay, so apart from the gameplay although i don't quote get what you mean about patience level being different.

How does the aiming, ballistics and damage system compare with RO if anyone knows. Is there a free aim system, do bullets lose speed and damage as they travel(i have read they do drop but not sure of speed and relative damage properties).

From what i have read you can be affected differently depending where you are hit but is it a constant thing or does it vary.

The video's show a crosshair type system so am i to assume the aim is fixed to the centre of the screen and just uses a random cone of fire approach rather than a proper bullets go where the gun points system?

I have a nice flight control setup and I would love to actually use the trigger. (I've only used it for FSX). I just hope the performance is better or will improve down the line compared to initial benchmarks I've seen.

ARMA does it realistically. Getting shot will mess you up depending on where to the point of not even being able to walk if you get popped in the leg.

The bullets go where you aim them with all those other factors. So running and gunning means bullets go all over the place, etc.

The game has different stances and movements speeds so you can decide how you want to do things. But it's better than RO. RO has some silliness to it.

ARMA has things like head movement so you can run in one direction and look in another by turning your head to look around.

You really just can't compare the two games, they are totally different in every aspect. ARMA is as real as it can get for the most part. RO is an FPS like any other with a good illusion of realism.
