Ripped from this thread but the deal seemed good enough to stand on it's own imho.

Edit: On second thought, i don't recommend purchasing this particular model. AVS forum members are now saying it's a total panel lottery with the 42LH30. The older units in retail channels have S-IPS, while slightly newer ones have decent AUO VA panels, but the newest ones now have Chi-mei VA panels with worse image quality (color banding etc). Buyer beware.

Which one, the 42" or 47"

Because if you bought the 47" then you got a great deal that you've been enjoying for over a month already, that alone is worth the extra $20.

This seems really cheap for a 47". Am I missing something here? It's 1080p so the resolution is great and from what I know LG makes great TVs.

Well it's not 120Hz or 240Hz capable...just 60Hz old-tech.
Ya, it's def not their cutting edge model featurewise.

It's geared more towards those who are shopping by price and size first, and are less concerned with features and possibly even overall image quality.

As for why it is so cheap? I'm guessing they are trying to move their 2009 inventory out to make room for the 2010 inventory. Also, there is a panel lottery with the xxLH30 models, rumor has it the latest may use CHIMEI panels. I can let you know what I receive when I get mine tomorrow or friday.

Haven't heard about the 47" model using the Chi-Mei panels yet, but i know the 42" size now does, corrected one of my posts above to reflect that.

Someone correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't 47" strictly an LG panel size, meaning all current TV's that are 47" must use LG IPS panels? Would certainly be a good thing if so.

LOL SJ I feel like you and I are always in the same threads. I remember reading that larger LG TVs still used their IPS panels. I'm actually surprised that the 42 is now using VA panels. The AUO VA panel really isn't that bad at all judging from the 32LH30 that I bought that had one. Don't know about Chimei though.

If you want guaranteed IPS it may be time to look at a Panasonic which is what I ended up getting. The LG IPS panel is supposedly of higher quality though so if this 47" uses an IPS I'd jump on it because the price is definitely right.

For someone coming from a 19" CRT and isn't a huge videophile, just looking for a decent 42" or 47" LCD for MW2 and watching TV on, are either of those a good buy?

Too late. just bought the 47" Woohooo

Nice, great deal, going to add it to the original post, thanks for the heads up.

It's a 720P plasma, but the contrast ratio ought to be great on it. Absolutely perfect for those stuck watching lots of SD programming, and ought to be more than good enough for HD as well, depending on personal preference of course.

Is Chi-Mei bad or good?
Long story short, yes it's bad.
