I am assuming that with a X58 motherboard, whether you have 6GB (3 x 2GB) or 12GB (6 x 2GB) that you will still be running in triple channel memory mode?

I'm pretty sure your assumption is correct..as in, I assume the same thing.

with 3 or 6 sticks, 3 channel will operate.

triple channel = memory modules in multiples of 3

3x 1 GB sticks is triple channel

3x 2 GB sticks = 6 GB is triple channel

6x 2 GB sticks = 12 GB is triple channel

Yep. Make sure your kits are matched though, as in get a 12GB kit that is factory matched. Dont buy 2 separate 6GB kits of the same type and expect them to run together all that great. At least that's what Ive heard.

not accurate, as long as all 6 sticks are same make and model it should work.

I am using 2 6GB kits without issue.

Agreed... You could get 6 individual sticks too, as long as they're all the same spec....
